Big O: Negotiator|
Chapter 1: "The New Deuses"
The city of amnesia is a place of forgotten memories, a place of forgotten people, a place of forgotten history. This meant nothing to the negotiator, Roger Smith, he had it all, money, nice mansion, and the famous gigantic mech Big O. Today...Roger was determined to make his day off relaxing, for him to get that he must get rid of the piano playing disaster, the android R. Dorothy Wayneright. Every morning she wakes him with the unforgiving blues, Roger has come to understand this as a punishment for sleeping in.
The sound of a piano echoes through the mansion again, Dorothy's doing. Roger rolls over and tries covering his head with a pillow but to no prevail. He crawls out of his king sized bed with a monster headache, "Darn that Dorothy how many times must I tell her!" Roger grabs his robe and nearly kicks down the door on the way out of his room. Roger plows through the living room door like bull seeing red, "Dorothy you quit that carnival music immediately!" Dorothy turns her head and stares with her cold mechanical eyes "You slept in one minute late." Roger slaps himself on the forehead "It's my day off, and what gives you the right to wake me up with that carnival music!" Dorothy stops playing "It seems to be the only way to get you out of bed." Roger grinds his teeth knowing he can't win this battle and gives in to the android "...Anyway where's Norman?" the android returns to playing the piano but this time something soft and sweet to the ears "He's down stairs making your breakfast." A voice echoes from the kitchen, "Breakfast is ready Master Roger!" Roger takes a look at Dorothy before proceeding to his breakfast "If I catch you playing that song again I'll personally dismantle you and use as spare parts for my car." Dorothy looks at Roger "I highly doubt it, but you're welcome to try."
Down stairs Roger waits at his unusually long table. An old man stands wearing a black apron saying "I'm a Bad Ass Cook" and not to forget his fluffy oven gloves. "Good morning Master Roger, would you like salt on your scrambled eggs." Roger nods "Sure, and one more thing, do we happen to have today's news paper, Norman?" Norman pulls out today's newspaper from his back pocket "Glad I picked it up for you when I went grocery shopping." Roger takes the newspaper and opens up to the Local section; the heading reads, "Megadeus saves Paradigm again." A satisfied look on Rogers face appears as he reads, "No job the negotiator can't handle." Norman brings in Roger's breakfast "I can drink to that Master Roger."
Roger finishes his breakfast and glances at his watch. "Norman, ready my car." Norman bows and takes Roger's plates, while Roger stands up and shakes out the morning tiredness. "Forgot I had a date with Angel." Dorothy suddenly appears behind Roger "Date...I do not understand date?" Roger puts his hand on Dorothy's shoulder. "Don't worry when you meet that special robot you'll understand." Dorothy cocks her head "I do not understand Roger Smith?" Roger sighs; "To save time go to a book store and buy a romance novel...besides it's not that kind of date." Roger lets go of Dorothy's shoulder and walks silently to his room to get changed.
Roger gets his usual suit out, black jacket, black pants, black tie, black shoes, and black gloves, everything black except the dress shirt beneath the jacket. He looks in the mirror and straightens his tie and combs his hair "Hey how are you doing, Angel... " Roger practices his lines, after all it's been a long time since he's seen Angel. Finally he satisfies himself and tightens his tie. "Norman, I'll be back before noon." Roger calls out as he heads to the front door.
Roger steps out the front and is greeted by an ice-cold wind "I can tell this day is going to be a bad one." His long black car the "Griffin" awaits for his arrival at the main gate; Roger hears the hum of the engine as he gets closer. He opens the door and sits down in the cold, red leather driver seat. "Ok, she said the Harbor Bay Café right." He closes the door and pulls out his sunglasses that were sitting in his jacket's front pocket. Roger grips the steering wheel and pulls out of his driveway. He goes into a deep thought as he drives. He reflects on how he first met Angel, she claimed to be a client working for Paradigm City, she even had a false name. To Roger that was the start of an odd relation ship between the both of them, neither one trusting of the other. He also couldn't forget when they were trapped in the subway. She was chasing after lost memories, he trying to negotiate with the nonnegotiable.
Rogers parks his car at the seaside of the café. He steps out and takes a deep breath of an ocean breeze. He glances over at the window and sees Angel waving eagerly to get going. "She must be loaded on coffee if she's this happy to see me." Roger mumbles while smiling back at her. Roger sits down with Angel inside "So anything interesting?" Roger got the feeling this going to be more of an interrogation then a simple date "Nope, nothing new." Angel places her chin on her hands as she leans onto the table "Aw, come on you're the negotiator, you must know something." Roger coldly replies, "If you're here to find a new quest for memories and invited me here just to interrogate me, I shall be leaving then." Roger stands up but Angel grabs his sleeve "You're right, I'm sorry."
Angel can never be fully trusted. Even when they were just together Roger would be careful of what he said around her. She backstabbed once when she left him at the dam in electricity city while being chased by an angry mob. From that point it's always been a tense relation ship. She truly is an Angel in her own way, Roger thought as he listened to her talk.
"Actually there's this man I have to talk to you about." Angel looks away from Roger for second. Roger begins getting interested. "So who?" Angel leans forward and nearly comes face to face with Roger "Roy Fluddor." Roger raises an eyebrow of curiosity. "And who is this Fluddor?" Angel smiles and finally leans back into her seat. "Guess." This kind of irritates Roger; he was never very good at this. "Well, he can't be someone close, you're not that kind of woman." One of the waiters approaches the table "You gonna order?" Roger nods. "Yes, I'll take a coffee, black, and she'll take a..." Angel interrupts, "Some orange juice will be just fine."
The day went on slowly as Angel told Roger about Roy Fluddor. Roger soon learned that Roy Fluddor was her fiancé and begun to get suspicious. "You have a fiancé, yeah right, so what does he have that you want?" Angel gets angry and slams her fist on the table. " What do you mean by that!" Roger laughs at her. "Please spare me, you're the type of person who would rather jump off a bridge then get married" Now standing, Angel was drawing attention to herself "And how the hell do you know what type I am!" Roger was at a loss for words, this reminded Roger about all his other dates. He might be the negotiator but he's no good at impressing women, most of the women were only interested in his money, that's one of the down sides of being rich for him.
Noon already and Roger knew this would be one of the last days he would see Angel, but he hasn't been able to speak his mind lately, all he could do is listen to the siren's voice. Roger was lost in thought as he stared into Angel's onyx eyes. He wondered if it was ever possible for the two of them to... but he didn't want to get her involved with Big O.
Big O is his curse, but it's also what's kept him alive as the negotiator. Who knows how many times he would have died with out Big O? In all, he owes Big O his life, but somehow he regrets having it, knowing that it forbids him from ever having any real relation ship with any women. Angel, Angel she was the only women and person to discover he was the man that owned Big O. He's always wondered why she hasn't ran around telling everyone "Roger Smith he's the owner of Big O!" After all, Big O had a pretty big bounty on its head thanks to the military police.
Guess she wasn't the kind of women to turn in someone who had saved her life more than once. But in return, he gets no respect from her whatsoever. She left him for dead on the bridge when her Dad attacked, she also tried to steal his Big O time to time. For some reason he didn't care, guess what he means is he cares for her more then he thinks.
Angel stands up "Well my fiancé is expecting me back at home soon so if you'll excuse me." Roger stands up and cheerfully asks, "So am I invited?" Angel gets a stumped look "Invited to what? Roger pulls out his sunglasses and puts them on "You know, the wedding." Angel's smile turns to a frown as she turns her back to Roger. "As much as I'd like you to come, my fiancé wants this wedding private." Roger gets the feeling he's going to hate this Roy Fluddor if he ever meets him. He shakes the feeling off. "Well, I wish you luck Angel."
Roger takes one last sip of coffee and waves good-bye to Angel as she walks out of his life once again, and this time it could be forever. Roger steps out of the café and looks up at the sky "Women, cant live with them, can't live without them...I've heard this phrase all too many times." Roger laughs to him self "I should be getting home, Norman and Dorothy are probably getting worried." Roger gets in his car and spends no more time thinking about Angel but rather his day off.
Roger arrives back home; the usual is going on, Dorothy playing that annoying song on the piano and Norman watching his afternoon soaps. "Dorothy what did I say!" Roger stomps his way upstairs to scream at Dorothy. He bursts into the room but it wasn't Dorothy who was playing, it was an old man. Dorothy turns her head to look at Roger. "This is a friend of my father." Roger raises an eyebrow. "Really, so I guess he's the one that taught you that annoying song then, correct?" The old man shakes his head and turns to face Roger. "Grumpy today, are we mister negotiator?" How dare this man intrude in my home and call me grumpy? Roger thinks. "So what business do you have here?" The old man smiles. "Well, I've come to talk to you about anti-Megadeuses."
"You see Negotiator, I know about your secret, in fact many city officials do." Roger closes his eyes and wonders how could they possibly know? "Tell me how do they know?" The scientist shakes his head. "You must remember out in the public, there's someone always watching." Roger paces around and learns more about this anti-megadeus and how the people might know his secret. "So this man, he's planning to use the Anti-Megadeuses for war on the city?" The scientist taps his cane on the ground twice and a hologram of the anti-megadeus appears. "It's the first model RFC-AMD-01 Duel Deus. Its primary weapons are electrifying tentacles, which happen to be its only weapons for the moment, but it also sports reinforced armor. It's designed for mobility on the field."
Duel Deus, Roger doesn't like the sound of this and shows some concern. "Now I am here because I don't want our beautiful city going belly up." Roger could understand since if Paradigm was destroyed where would all the people go? "So is there something else?" The scientist shakes his head "I'm just here to warn you, that is all." Roger begins to show the scientist to the door. "Thank you but I'm confident that Big O has all it takes." He pushes the scientist out the door.
With that out of the way he had nothing but the name of Angel's fiancé stuck in his head, Roy Fluddor. Roger was very curious to know who this man was. "Norman, I'm going to see Dastun." Roger walks over to his car and leaves with the screeching of tires.
Dastun, the military police war dog. This man didn't care who his boss was; he would protect the people at all costs. He and Roger go way back, even to the MP academy. Although they were best of friends they really didn't like each other's company since it usually meant one of them trouble. Also, Dastun gave information to Roger whenever he needed help on a case.
Roger's long black car parks in front of the station. Roger steps out of his car and presses a button on his keys. Suddenly, metal plates slide over the glass and wheels of his car; this proved even in a secure location he does not trust the MP to do the job fully. There were a few criminals resisting being dragged into the building. As Roger walked up the steps, one of the criminals makes a quick break for it but trips on Roger's foot when he tries to run by him. Roger looks at his watch "Hmm, usually there's more being dragged in at this hour."
Inside, the police were busy taking names, fingerprints, and pictures. Roger walks up to the main desk "Is Officer Dastun in?" The man at the desk was ranked "Private" so he was obviously new, they only put new recruits in at the main desk. "Yes he is, may I ask who you are?" Roger looks around, surprised that nobody has taught this kid who he was talking to. "Tell him it's Roger Smith." The Private walks off for a few minutes and eventually returns. "Yes, Major Dastun says he'll see you now." Roger nods. "Thanks, kid."
Major Dastun's room was filled with a fog of smoke as Roger entered. Dastun takes his cigar and rubs the flaky burnt edge of the cigar into his ashtray "So, negotiator what can I do for you this time." Roger walks up to his desk. "I want information on a man named Roy Fluddor." Dastun stands up and while exhaling a stream of smoke says, "wait here I'll here, I'll be back in a few." Dastun exits the room, leaving a smoky trail behind him as he walks down to filing room.
Roger looks around and spots some pictures of his squad when he was still on the force. Also in the picture was Roger's fiancée back then. He would have been married if it weren't for the accident, heck he might not even have become the negotiator if it wasn't for the accident. Dastun walks back in and spots Roger peering at his old pictures "Brings back memories, don't it?" Roger turns around and sees that Dastun has a file in his hand "Yeah, it does, but some of them I'd rather not remember." Dastun returns to his chair and tosses the file to Roger " Your boy, Roy Fluddor, is one of Paradigm's wealthiest men. In fact, he owns almost half of the West Dome." For some reason this doesn't surprise Roger at all. "Any dirt on him?" Dastun exhales a puff of smoke. "Well, there's been news on the street about him recently. Some say he's found lost memories to something more powerful then a Megadeus, and that's about it."
After leaving the station, Roger decides to pay one of his most reliable sources a visit. Roger arrives at a bar in the suburbs of Paradigm City. Inside the bar is filled with life, a large pool tournament happens to be going on today. Roger walks up to the counter and the bar tender looks at Roger. "The usual?" Roger nods and the bartender bends over and picks up a rather big bottle of red wine. "Thanks." Roger walks back to a table in the very back of the bar and sits down. "What do you want to know about this time, Mister Negotiator?" An old man reading a newspaper at the table next to his speaks to Roger but doesn't look at him. Neither does Roger, instead he watches the pool tournament. "Tell me what you have on Roy Fluddor." The old man continues to read the newspaper "Roy Fluddor, heard he's stumbled upon a few relics before the amnesia, also heard he's found out how to create the amnesia all over again." Roger cracks his knuckles "This is deeper then I thought." The old man nods, Roger stands up and puts some money on the man's table "There's an extra grand in there."
The next morning, Roger awakes peacefully without the annoying piano song. Roger sits up in his bed and wonders what Dorothy could be doing if she didn't have time to play the song. Roger gets up and puts his robe on and walks out of his room, there wasn't a soul to be seen. "Norman?" No response. Roger turns around and sees a note on his door from Norman "Dear Master Roger, Dorothy and I have gone shopping. Breakfast is in the fridge just heat for three minutes in the microwave."
Roger was putting on his suit when a sudden shake in the ground knocked him over "Ow, what was that?" Roger looks out the window and sees that Anti-Megadeus attacking, the Deus then begins to play a message: "Mr. Negotiator, this is only a warning, if you continue to look into my affairs I shall kill you personally." "Roy Fluddor...I've got to get to Big O." Roger gets into the secret elevator in his closet, which leads to Big O. Meanwhile the Megadeus deploys its tentacles and starts to send them darting through Rogers home.
Norman and Dorothy drive up just in time to see the mansion take the final blow "Oh no, Master Roger!" Norman jumps out of the car and runs up to the main gate. The megadeus retracts its tentacles after satisfying itself and starts to walk away. Just then a giant cloud of smoke explodes from the ground and from the smoke arises the Big O.
In the cockpit sits Roger Smith with his arms crossed. The phrase "Cast in the name of God, Ye not Guilty" appears on monitors in the Big O's cockpit, the controls then lower from the ceiling of the cockpit. Roger uncrosses his arms and grabs the controls, "Its show time, Big O!" A military police car pulls up as the deuses begin to duke it out. Major Dastun steps out of his car with his mouth wide open. "Oh no, why does it have to be Megadeuses!"
Big O runs forward at the other Megadeus. "All right, Big O, let's show this Megadeus you're the best!" Roger Smith slides the right joystick behind then pulls it back to the front as hard as he can. The Big O responds and hits the other Deus hard with its right fist. The face armor on the other deus cracks a little bit as it stumbles back. The deus regains its balance and sends it tentacles into the ground "What's it doing?" Roger mumbles to himself. Suddenly, the tentacles shoot up from beneath Big O's feet and wrap themselves around Big O's legs, sending a large electric current through the entire body of Big O. "Aaargh!!" Roger screams as he get electrocuted, "You want to play dirty!" He slams his fist down on a button and a missile control panel opens up in front of him. He slams his hand on the fire button as compartments in Big O's abdominal area open up to reveal a payload of missiles. A volley of missiles is soon in the air and on a course to blast what ever it was aimed at into oblivion, a blinding explosion occurs as the volley hits its target.
Major Dastun jumps behind his car to protect himself from the oncoming debris and a wave of destructive fire and smoke. He peeks over the hood of his car "That's going to come out of the military police pay." He stands up as the smoke clears. The anti-megadeus survived but was severely damaged.
Roger smirks "You're the first opponent to survive Big O's missile attack." Roger flips the safety switches off under a control panel called "Chromebuster Beam." Roger's face gets serious again "But it's time to finish this." He hits the fire button. Energy begins to gather in Big O's visor, then a pink stream of concentrated energy shoots towards the anti-megadeus. It cuts through the deus with ease and shortly it blows up. From afar a man looks on as Big O sinks back into the ground "Hm, seems like were going to have to make another Anti-Megadeus."
Roger appears out of the smoke left behind by Big O's sinking back into ground. Soon enough, Dorothy spots Roger and drags Norman with her. "What happened, Roger?" Roger dusts off his pants. "Roy Fluddor, he gave me a warning." Norman shows concern. "Are you going to listen to the warning?" Roger gives a cold stare at Norman. "Off course not, Norman, you of all should know I'm the last person in the world that would back away from a job just because some giant robot totaled my house." Dorothy looks at the house. "Speaking of the house, Roger, where are you going to live?"
