Music Box
Chapter 6
The place was a complete circus, or toy store. Everywhere, decorations of little clowns and fuzzy bears. Balloons were tied, some floated to the ceiling. There was a dance floor, and two tables. One had candles and two fancy glasses. To Roger's right was Dorothy.
"Dorothy!" he cried. He saw what had been done to her. She was dressed in a pink ballerina suit, complete with a frilly little skirt and ballet slippers. She was standing on a platform and not moving. A silver device had been stuck in the small of her back.
The ticking sound came from the other side. Roger walked around and saw Max turning the crank. He finished the last of the turning, and pressed a large button next to it.
"Negotiator!!! Glad you could arrive!"
"You're sick! What have you done to her?"
"Well not much actually. I must say she is a pleasure to have around here."
"You faked your way to get to the heart of a young woman!"
"Oh please! Would I really fake such a cheap accent?" Then his hands went up to his head, and he growled. Then something happened. He looked up, hands still on his head.
"Roger," came the voice with the accent, "Help...me. He's a sick-" He shook his head.
"Quit whining you little twit. Sorry, minor intervention."
What the hell? thought Roger.
"I'm sorry. I haven't properly introduced myself. My name is Tomas. The bumbling idiot I control is Max. You can say we have an...eternal bond." He hopped onto the platform near Dorothy. He placed a hand on Dorothy's shoulder.
"Do you like how I've dressed up my little doll? She is a pretty little thing isn't she?"
"Don't you dare touch her!" Roger took a few steps forward.
"I've noticed you eyed this little device here." He pointed to the silver thing on Dorothy's back. "Max was once an apprentice to a man named Jason Beck, who I'm sure you're familiar with. I used that knowledge to build my creations. But I have surpassed that curly-haired idiot." He looked at Dorothy. "Now darling, who's the love of my life?"
"You are," replied Dorothy. She had no self-control. Roger couldn't move after hearing this. But he could still speak.
"Dorothy, don't let him control you. Know who you are, you're Dorothy Wayneright!" Tomas put his lips on hers, and Dorothy returned it. Roger was beginning to be sick. Tomas let go.
"You are not this man's puppet! You are your own person! Take control!" cried Roger.
"And, like I told you, who do you love?" Roger started running towards the platform, breaking the magnetic force holding him down.
"I love you Ma-"
"Dorothy!"
"Tom- Roger!"
"Dorothy!"
"Roger!" She screamed. The silver thing short-circuited. Roger jumped onto the platform and prepared to strangle Tomas/Max, but jumped down and pressed the button. Dorothy started twirling, and jewelry-box music began to play. He held out a gun.
"When he music's over my true baby will appear and destroy you!" He started to shoot, careful not to shoot Dorothy. Roger jumped out of the way. Some of the clowns' buttons exposed machine gun barrels and began to shoot. Roger hid behind one of the giant metal teddy bears. His watch then went off.
"Yes Norman?"
"Sir, did you find Dorothy?"
"Yes, she'll be fine."
"Wonderful. Oh, as you requested sir, I sent Big O down near dome number three. He should be there in about ten seconds."
"Thanks Norman, 'cause I think I'll need him soon."
The music-box music began to slow. Roger needed to hurry. He noticed the two clowns with guns in their buttons, and that a catwalk was right above them. He needed to do something quick, before his head was blown off. He ran in between them, and they began to shoot. He shot his pistol, and the hook flew up and clung to one of the metal bars of the catwalk. He flew up as the clowns kept shooting. They shot each other and they both exploded as he hung in midair.
Then the music stopped. He could hear rumbling on the outside. Roger didn't waste time and called into his watch.
"Big O, SHOWTIME!" Big O shot up from the ground, his hand held out. Roger stepped on it.
"Wait Big O, we need to get Dorothy." The megadeus placed his hand on the ground. Roger ran to the platform and up to Dorothy. He pulled out the device on her back, and she fell to her knees. He struggled to pick her up.
"Thank you Roger."
"No need for thank-you's now Dorothy." He put her arm on his shoulders and they steadily began to walk. They went inside Big O. Roger sat in his seat in the cockpit and got the controls ready.
CAST IN THE NAME OF GOD, YE NOT GUILTY
"Big O, ACTION!" Big O's eyes lit up, ready for battle. He punched through the ceiling and onto the surface. Destroying the domes was Tomas/Max, in his Big, with its massive silver and red body and large cat ears.
It charged with great speed, attempting to slice Big O with the blades on its arms. It scraped a bit of his chest.
"Do you like my baby?" cried Tomas. "She will slice you in half, Negotiator, and I will have Dorothy to myself again."
"Never again," said Dorothy behind Roger.
"It may be your baby-" cried Roger, as Big O placed his fists together and the laser passed through his eyes and onto the other megadeus, destroying its abdomen. "-but it needs to go back where it belongs!" The cat-like megadeus swung her arm at Big O, slicing his left arm and some of the buildings next to her.
Roger pulled the stick back, getting Big O ready to swing.
"Just like you both!" Big O pulled his arm back. "This is for you, Dorothy!" He punched a large hole into the cat's chest. It took a few steps back, dazed. It still stood.
"What?"
"Here I come!" yelled Tomas.
"No!" His arm became stuck.
"What are you doing you stupid-"
"Something I should have done a long time ago," said Max. Fully gaining control, he manipulated the controls to split the megadeus into various pieces, struggling to hold themselves together. "Never again," he said. Then the megadeus fell apart, parts and pieces reaching the ground with great impact. The cockpit was the last thing to fall.
Max/Tomas was found inside the cockpit with only a bloody gash on his forehead. As the military police handcuffed him and walked him to the police car, he passed by Dorothy.
"I'm sorry," Max said quickly, in his accent. "I really did like you." Then they put him in the car and drove off into the night. Dorothy looked on before she was approached by Roger.
