[Fan Fiction] Renaissance

Son_of_Horus 04-29-2004 07:41 PM
Here's some Big-O fan fiction from the new guy in the domes.

I can't post it here because I always write anime fiction in screenwriters format, complete with sluglines and such.
When you live in Los Angeles, it kind of comes with the territory. Wink

Two acts now available.

One word about the music if I may… If you’re running 56k you may wish to let it completely download before you involve the reading, the music really sets the mood.
Thanks for everyone’s interest in the Renaissance series.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. Cool

That's the most polished script I've seen. Great music, too Smile ). More, please!

If you wanted to put it up here, I don't think pen would mind. Other people have written stories in script format.

An excellent start, Mr. Horus. I have a couple questions and comments, though.

Question first. You say this is "A Continuation of Big-O Series III" at the header. Is "Renaissance" the start of your own series III then? Or is it a continuation of one of the other "Season 3's" out there, making this a "Season 4?"

About the story itself. You're setting this up as being during reconstruction, at the start of another cycle. I can't think of anyone else who's done one there, so it's probably one of the best places you could set a Big O continuation. I was thinking of doing one like that myself. But now, if you continue this story, I won't have to go through all that work. I'm a much better reader than a writer, so you'll also be sparing the netizens of P-C pages and pages of terrible prose. Big Grin

About the music. 56k-ers aren't going to like it much on the first playthrough, but it is a good track. I expected some MIDI file, and it was a pleasant surprise to find that it wasn't.

About sending it to [AS] or Sunrise, Inc, or whomever. Most outlets like that don't want unsolicited scripts, since it raises some hairy legal issues for them if they use anything remotely close to your ideas. Not that they are unworthy of continuing. But the whole thing about who "owns" Big O, the characters, even the music, can be real nasty to play with. And I'm assuming you don't have a team of 800-pound gorillas-- *ahem* I mean, Corporate Lawyers on your side. I hate to say it, but it's a fight you probably won't win.

But in the end, this works wonderfully as a fan fiction so far. Don't get discouraged about it being difficult--and if necessary, change up the style and format you're writing in. You can always go back and put it in your preferred style. The story is what's really important. I'm interested in seeing where you take this.

Indeed it is.
I'm a bit outside the box (or the domes as it were) Wink when it comes to what I consider "Series III".
In my opinion Series III began at the end of episode 26, when the opening credits flashed for a second time and we saw Roger reprising his role as Negotiator.
Since the title of that episode was The Show Must go On, I took it as a message from the writers as to what their take on the matter was.
When I found out that the series wasn't going to be renewed, I then interpreted it as my cue (as did many of you did by creating your own fan fiction as well).
Sometimes a series will survive if the fans organize as a community and demonstrate a thing called passion.
Passion is a lot like persistence, it can knock down the largest obstacles, and even the greatest of mountains.
There's a lot of both of those qualities here...
Which is why I joined this forum.

As far as my Series is concerned, I thought that the most interesting version of the story (at least for me) would be one that shows that all things can conceivably repeat themselves if we're not careful.

In Renaissance the past has become the present, and the future will be re-visited by the nightmares of the pre-Event past.

I've written quite a bit of this series (several full episodes in fact, including one called The Fall of the Gods, which I doubt I could post here because of the subject matter, which is R to NC-17 at best in part because of the violence, but also because of what happens after Big-Mars and it's sadistic pilot Odin get the drop on Angel).

Unfortunately, I'm a Virgo.
Which of course, means that anything that gets posted has to be absolutely perfect and I'm a stickler for sluglines, which despite the kind words of encouragement (Pygmalion) I don't want to start off my visit here on a sour note by making myself a burden to pen.

Thanks again for the kind words you guys. Smile

Nice work, I like what i've read thus far.
Madrona 04-30-2004 12:42 PM
I like it so far.

Interesting how Roger has reverted to his old defensiveness around Angel.

About the web page... perhaps the player controls should be at the top of the page. I'm an idiot sometimes and didin't even see it until I was almost done with your storyEmbarrassed Sweatdrop
But I really liked your choice in music.

You're making yourself a burden to me by not posting more. This is amzingly great writing, and I really want to read more. Seriously, this is really amazing. Post more, please.

Hm...R to NC-17, yeah, it might be a good plan not to show that, but you threw it out there, I'm sure if people want to see it badly, you can e-mail it to them?

A buden? To me? Oh! Don't worry, that wasn't that long and you can double post when you're putting a story up if you post it in a post (that is if you reach the limit of your post), only problem is the formating might be a little hard...though...its probably simple too...

(Be sure to check out the rules and stuff, as long as you behave, you're good. Big Grin )

To the story: IS THERE MORE? I loved that! I really want to see what happens next! I'm impressed. It runs like an episode (hehe, it is written in script), but it just seems like it runs right with the series. Good job! I love seeing all of these season threes. They are all so good! Big Grin

BTW: Welcome to the forums! I assume you have met the welcome wagon(s). Also, welcome to the Nightengale! Please, check out some of the other fan works in here and I do hope you will post some more of your own! I look forward to it!

Welcome to the Nightengale Club!

Later,

P.S.-LOVE THE AVATAR! I love R.D. and that is a good snippet!

Thread bumped.
Full Episode available as promised.
Please see the updated post at the top of this page.
I hope you enjoy it. Cool

*Claps loudly*

To steal a few phrases: I give you props and kudos man! That was awesome. I can't WAIT to see what happens next! I love your take on the whole connection the the Megadues. I also enjoyed seeing Roger's mind a little and also Dorothy's. The romance was good too (I love the one scene Drooling [I'm such a romantic]).

BRAVO! (even though I didn't hear it with the music, I still love it. I took the stupid plugin off the computer, but since you mention which tracks are which, I'll eventually take my CD and play it when I get a chance to read it again).

Can't wait for the next episode!

Cool stuff. I hope there's more, because I'm looking forward to the showdown with the new megadeus.

Okay, well that last page would never pass the censors that's for sure. The rest should be able to pass muster though. The Nightgowns and Nightingales chapter was really nice as was Dorothy's secret.
Tifaria 05-02-2004 02:01 PM
Holy.. wow. The Roger/Dorothy scene is of course my favorite, but the entire story is exceptional. Normally, I have a hard time reading things in scipt form, but you've given such careful attention to details and it sucked me right in. Smile ) I'm really looking forward to seeing where you're going with this!

Also, I really like that you provided a soundtrack! Your choices were dead-on, and helped give it the feeling of an actual episode.
Madrona 05-04-2004 11:25 AM
I'm sooo glad you updated this. I love this story. Thanks for moving the player controls!
Kat 05-18-2004 06:30 PM
Wonderful. You did a fantastic job with this! And the music choices were perfect. Am eagerly awaiting more. ^___^

You know, I read this weeks ago and forgot to post how much I had enjoyed it! Good job, SOH!

lol
Thank you. I'm glad you like it.
I haven't forgotten, I've just been very, very busy.
I have several episodes written, but episode 2 in particular needs some "tightening up" especially where Beck is concerned.
I'll post the link to it soon.

Renaissance ActII is now posted with main link to scene listings on top of this page.

Big Grin

Direct links are:
Renaissance ActI

Renaissance ActII

I'm trying to keep this PG-13 and out of the R content as much as possible, but as ActIII continues it drifts into that area, so I'm not really sure what I can post here and what I can't.
Maybe I can give Pen a private link or something so she can approve it first, and if not then I'll have a private link somewhere for the grown-ups.
Sorry if that sounds patronizing, but thats the way it's going to have to be.
Renaissance has some violently disturbing visuals as well as some implied sexual situations which just wouldn't be appropriate to post here.
