Big O live action movie

Don't get your hopes up because there is no live action Big O movie (yet). But What would our world be like if there was a Big O live action movie?

I'd love to see what it would turn out to be like. I wonder who might play Roger Smith...Keanu Reeves? Nah...his voice sounds like a wimp. i think Winona Ryders might make a great role for Dorothy Wayneright. Norman...Sean Connery?
Manji 08-04-2003 10:24 PM
It would be horrible, it makes me want to burn things Big Grin
Byranx 08-04-2003 10:25 PM
As much as i love the series...i really would not want to hear about a Big O movie til lonnnnng down the road. Because a movie adaptation is a risky business Shocked
R.Smith 08-04-2003 10:26 PM
Ack!! Nooo, bad idea, bad idea. Follows Manji's lead in burning things! Fire!! Woo! Fire! Fire!!

Anything can be done right, heck, they could do a whole movie on Winter Night Phantom alone, but there is still a lot of material to cover plot-wise, but who knows...

They could never do it Justice. On a what if though who would be good for the parts? I personally coudn't watch it with a bunch of Hollywood Stars
it would have to be a bunch of no name actors.

Red Face (Ben Afeck as Roger Smith and Jennifer Lopez as Dorothy) Red Face

Just as its going to be hard to pull off the roll of Rei in the Eva live action movie...so it will be even more difficult to find a perfect actress for Dorothy
Dante 08-04-2003 10:33 PM
The best thing for Dorothy is just dig up a corpse and put a speaker in its mouth

I think it sounds cool. Yes, I would have to agree with Bryanx that turning it into a movie is a risky business, but who knows what it might turn out to be. Heck, we could probably give the job to Steven Speilberg and he could turn it into a classic along the lines of E.T.

-or-

Along the lines of such names as Street Fighter (horrible movie) and Super Mario Bros. (no comment here)

You know, the young Winona Ryders (in Edward Scissorhands) does remind me of Dorothy Wayneright.

Good god, no.
They'd probably try to make it 'hip' and make Dorothy into some sort of sexual tease or something.

if they do make a live movie, it will never match up to the cartoon
Death 08-04-2003 10:44 PM
I have to agree. There are lots of things they would have to fit into the movie: memories lost, meeting with Dorothy, Beck, Big O, Schwartzwald, Roger Smith, Big Duo, Dan Dastun, so on and so forth.

Unless they do sequels or some sort of trilogy (like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings), the movie will never be the same as the show.

Two Words:

Johnny Sokko (aka Giant Robo).

Sorry. This kinda "dates" me as I remember this show AND Ultraman, the ORIGINAL Ultraman!

Live action adaptation of anime - the horror, the horror (it won't work and I'll tell you why - 'The Guyver', enough said).

There's too much stuff to cover, and it can't be squeezed into two hours without sacrificing something (with Hollywood nowadays, I say the thing sacrificed would be plot).

And Hollywood is not going to get their rotten, stinking hands on it. First thing they're going to do is making Dorothy a sexpot - probably turn her into a pleasure android - and have her running around in skimpy skank-wear to show that she's female because some skinny famous actress doesn't have anything resembling secondary sexual characteristics to prove she's female.

Second thing they're going to do is have Roger played by some famous guy who is SOOO wrong for the part, but the only reason he got it is because he's famous (I mean, really, anybody remember when they wanted Nick Cage as Superman???). Sorry, Ben Affleck, but I remember you in those science documentaries of 'Voyages of the Mimi', you suck.

Then there's definitely going to be a sex scene between them because the hero and the heroine ALWAYS do The Nasty in these movies. Of course, the writers (I use the term very loosely nowadays - maybe I should say video game designers) will never have seen the series or read the manga, and say 'Oh, I understood it from the synops, no prob.'

I'd hate to think of what they'll do with Angel - make her a porn actress or something so they can get lots of scenes of her being nude. Or just turn her into a Bond Girl all the way.

Don't forget the religious implications will be completely wiped out in a live action movie version - it will 'slow the action down' if we have the characters doing any character development and interacting with the background.

And you know there will be some idiot that never heard of it being anime and wanting to do a cartoon series based on the movie version.

*holds up crucifix toward Hollywood* Begone, foul demon of uncleaness!

Okay, rant over.

lol, that was classic...

I'd like to see an animated Big O movie, similar to what DBZ does. It takes place outside the show, but you don't need the whole story explained, as the movie is an extension of the show.
Zopwx2 08-04-2003 11:59 PM
Jean Reno as Dastun! But he doesn't speak good english. Anyway sure the special effects would have to be really cool, but there is no way they could fit such a huge story into a movie and still make it appeal to mainstream audiences.

Lady Teaser: You're right on the hand that Hollywood would maim and destroy it. However, I don't think you've been very nice to The Guyver. I am a huge Guyver fan and I have both the series and Both Live action movies. Ture the first was not good, but there wasn't really that much you could do with technology back then. The second movie really does justice to the anime though. You also have to remember that the American adaption took place in America, and does not star any of the characters from the Japanese edition.
Anyways, rant over...

Oh, and never do a live action Big O. It just wouldn't work out Wink
