Ok, this one isn't that long at all. This is a rather simple thing to explain so there really wasn't much to write about.

Anyway here it is:

Many fans probably already know why Dorothy does that whirring sound ever though she doesn’t need to. She does it to remind everyone she isn’t human and to annoy Roger Smith. However, few people have asked how she does it. It would be foolish to think that Timothy gave her that ability intentionally. Well, I’ve actually come up with a reasonable answer to this question. Dorothy probably has electric servos that simulate the various muscles in the human body. Normally these servos operate silently, but if they are trying to act against a force or resistance that is strong enough, they will emit a whirring sound. In order to generate the whirring sound, she probably just makes the opposing servos on each joint act against each other, causing the force from both servos to cancel each other out so they make the whirring sound even though they aren’t moving much.

So,what you think about this theory?

i guess it possible!

It's a great theory, but isnt more likely that it was done to remind us that she is an android? It may be possible that realistically she always makes those noises but the creators decided not to do things that way. It might become somewhat annoying when every time she is in a scene she makes robotic noises. Notice how Roger never actually pointed out the fact that she made the sounds. It just seemed that way to me >.>..

I could be wrong <.<

I'm sure you're right about Dorothy using the whirring to irritate Roger. When she's performing feats of strength, she never whirs.

I've always seen it as her personal form of body language. Sometimes she whirrs to annoy Roger, sometimes to remind people that she's an android. It's definitely a voluntary action, because she doesn't *always* whirr. Actions that sometimes produce whirrs often do not (such as turning her head), meaning that she does it for effect rather than simply as a result of needing to be oiled or something.
