Different companies have the rights to the OAV and the TV series. There's also been 5 years between the OAV and TV, and a lot happened in those 5 years.
Why am I writing this to you, Yomi-chan, when you're sitting right next to me writing right now?!?

Question! Whats with the American presidant?
In both the TV and OVA.
BTW Ensign I like your usertile. |
The OAV and TV Nancy voices were very close enough.
spoiler (highlight to read):
Pay attention to the end of the series. When she says: "GIVE ME BACK MY SON!" That was so close to the original Miss Deep it was scary.
As for the OAV and TV Yomiko... The accent could be explained. There was Six months between the events of the OAV and the day Yomiko

destroyed the British Library.
She could have been in britain long enough to pick up the accent in that period of time. Heck, I was around some people with light southern accents, and I picked it up within a month's time. Took a year though to get my Minnesotan accent back a bit.
But that is besides the point. All the voice actors did a hell of a job.
As for President Cole... he has brass, but the true fortitude of rice paper. the minute things go south... he panics to the point of loss of bodily function.
Then who wouldn't blame him, after he discovers just how hardcore the British Library's Super-Tech truely is.
The events of the OAV happen around the spring or summer of 2001, the events of the TV series happen sometime in 2006/2007.
And thanks regarding my User Title.
The OVA got her accent wrong. Simple
Shes meant to be a British/Japanese who has a English accent, but the dubbers of the OVA didnt bother.

And you speak with no bias, Doctor?
Just kidding, but seriously, it could be explained away. But then again, we DO NOT know what sort of accent she has in the Manga which happen before the OVA.
So... Unless we know the original intent of the creators of the series (and I don't have paper powers in reality, so I can't just touch their notes and glean every thought) we're left to speculate. -.-;

It was mentioned in one of the inserts with the dvds. The director was very involved in the dubs production

This is a blind posting just to say that I'm sadly still not following this thread because I haven't seen R.O.D. the TV series yet.
But Hopefully I will watch it through rental over the next couple of months. Then I'm sure I'll bring up old questions/conversations.
Man, I wanna see this show.

Bad news?
huh?
More like good news that someone finally picked up Read Or Die. Now just for the novels and Read or Dream.

It's good news that some one picked it up, yes. The reason why I said that it would be bad news is the fact that everyone wanted someone other then Viz to pick it up. But I should have added that it was inevitable, because of it being published by Shueisha....sorry if there was a miss understanding ^^; ....
And I would suspect that viz will also pick up the novels as well, seeing as how they picked up the FMA ones.

My question is, what is up with all the handwringing over Viz in the first place?
Manga are harder to mess up than anime.
Unless the issue is the "flipping" that some companies do to fit the American manga reading paradigm.
And quite frankly... I don't get the howling.

they have edited one or two titles...
Quite frankly, id be surprised if they edit ROD at all.
I expect to get the Editors Choice treatment my self, which would be lovely

Sorry for the silence in my flagship thread here, but everyone knows what I'm dealing with ATM.
But, enough about that, time for good news.
I GOT ROD the TV VOLUME 1!
I might post some thoughts in a couple days. That, and I plan to get the entire series.
Ensign is in his heaven, all is right with the world. ^.^

I have to admit, I'm writing this while trying not to read any other posts on this thread.
I just finished episode 16 (
Volume 4) of the TV series and am looking forward to watching the whole thing over the course of the next month or so.
I'll leave my full comments until after I've seen the whole series.
What I will say for now is about Episode 15. (So close your eyes if you haven't seen any of this show yet):
spoiler (highlight to read):
Yaayyyyyyyyyyyy!!!! Finally!!! Yomiko makes her appearance!!!!! (And Nancy too!!!) Yeah!!!! I'm glad we saw Drake Anderson earlier in the series. I hope he's around again.

I really love the OAV. It's really fun yet original and well animated. The TV series really doesn't do anything for me though.

I'll admit, I haven't enjoyed the TV series (so far) as much as the OVA. But now that I've seen episode 15, I'm looking forward to where it's headed. Then I'll give my grade.
(And I'll also go back and read this thread, to catch up on the comments!)

Well, welcome aboard, Schoolie!
As a bit of good news, I got Volume 5 today. So now I have 1,2,4,5 and I am looking for 3,6,7.
Jeeze, now I'm starting to feel like Mr. Joker collecting all of Mr. Gentleman's books. >_<;
At least I don't have all those goons that look like bad rip-offs of the Crazy 88s. Seriously, Brown business suits don't strike fear in me. Only strike a wave of laughter.
Now the Mirror Man on the other hand... That's a scary guy.
And, we're almost two months away from the Manga release. *eye twitches*

Well.... I did it! All 7 volumes of the TV series.
So, to comemorate, and to rub it in to a few friends, here is a photo.
I'll be starting to review episodes in volume blocks.
Victory is
VERY SWEET.

Okay, the Manga has been delayed untill March 21st. But VIZ now has the date on their site, so it's now seemingly set in stone.
So let your FLCBS (Friendly Local Comic Book Store) know about Read or Die.
