Most of what I was going to say is already said, especially Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, because they're awesome.

Unmentioned: Polaris (They did most of the music for Pete and Pete)

EDIT: Lemon Demon (Check out their site...) They've got songs about pi, Bill Watterson, e-baums world, and loads more.

First off, I would like to thank AndroidZeroX for starting this thread. It's always nice to find a forum post where I can find about a zillion new bands to check out.

Some bands that are seriously kickarse in my opinion would be;

  • Tempus - indie rock band. Follows a traditional strong guitar, steady baseline style, but makes it their own with fun drumlines. Official Website
  • Scott Andrew and the Walkingbirds - Folk-rock indie-pop mix. Need I say more? Tongue Official Website
  • Sigur Ros - My friend Max knows more about this band than I do, but they're good nonetheless. High-pitched male vocals with a 4-part string ensemble. Icelandic. Awesome. Official Website
  • haDag Nachash - Israeli rap. Fun, catchy backbeats with cool-sounding lyrics, even if you aren't fluent in Hebrew. Smile Official Website (( note: to have everything loaded on the site, it is suggested that you download the Hebrew language packet ))

These are only a few bands that kick total butt in my mp3 collection. If you want more names, feel free to pm me! Smile

Sufjan Stevens. He's trying to make an alvum for all 50 states. He already has 2, Welcome to Michigan: the Great Lakes State, and Come on Feel the Illinoise. Good Stuff. Big Grin

Anyone ever heard of Pedro the Lion? Freaking amazing. Most of their songs are simple- but the lyrics are amazing. Some of their best songs are: "Options", "Criticism as Inspiration", "Bad Diary Days" and "I am Always the One Who Calls". Amazaing- simply amazing.

Then there's Thee Michelle Gun Elephant- they're Japanese. Their frontman Chiba Yusuke can scream like no other. Favorite. Japanese. Band. Ever. They too, are amazing.

Another band that I've recently gotten into is Neutral Milk Hotel. They're interesting. "Naomi" and "Holland, 1945" are my two favorite songs of theirs.

Also, are there any Arcade Fire fans here? I learned about these guys recently- though unique, they have some really good stuff.

Check these out people!

Aren't they the band who used signs that just said "F*CK" on them for advertisement? I know I rmemeber hearing they did something weird like that but I'm probably making stuff up.
Also Arcade Fire is good. Very good.

Sponge! Wow, what a blast from the not too distant past that is. Their song "Plowed" totally ruled when it came out. They had a great song about another cool redhead (besides Dorothy, of course.) That was "Molly" which was written in tribute to Molly Ringwald.

Lots of great suggestions. My all-time favorite band that most of America never heard of was The Tragically Hip. The Hip chose their name from a Pythonesque-like skit in a Michael Nesmith movie. They hail from Kingston, Ontario and represent all that is great about Canada. Get converted at http://www.thehip.com

Some kid at my lunch table told me that the people in Neutral Milk write their songs in an insane asylum. Because they're residents. He might be wrong though.

Sponge is awesome. "Wax Estatic" and "I Am Anastacia" were two very kick ass songs.

i've been really into wolf parade this past year.

i have no doubt they'll become more popular this year on account that they're finally making music videos and are tied to modest mouse's isaac brock.

also, my buddy has turned me onto chiodos this past week. i'm sorry to admit that i like them, because they can be sort of cheesy sometimes. i think they're great, though.
