Apples In stereo- Most people haven't heard of these guys from Denver. They are friggin awesome- check them out, they've been around since about 1993 or 1994. They were greatly influenced by the sounds of the 60's- so their stle is often pshycadelic (sp?) \.
Squirrel Nut Zippers- Another awesome band. They went their seperate ways a while ago, but have tons of great recordings. You can probably find them at a local retailer like Best buy or Media Play. Their style is sort of Ragtime- let me tell you... it is the sweetness. Check these guys out- you may be really surprised.

I think the Apples in Sterio did a music video for CartoonNetwork once. The squirrel Nut Zippers are also very cool.

Does anybody remember this band? I think they are great, but I've only heard 4 songs of theirs:
Feel It Again
What Does It Take
Those Were The Days
Lethal Weapon
Like I said, I think they are great. I'm surprised I don't own any of their albums. I have a 45 RPM of Lethal Weapon on the way to my house from Canada though.

(EDIT) sorry, this was supposed to go in "great bands you've never heard of" but i clicked "new thread" instead of reply...my bad. someone move it please.
[EDIT: Done and Done, thanks for pointing this out.

YES! DEAR GOD YES!
I have their second album ever, where their big song HELL came from. I do remember that one of the band members died of a heroin overdose, and I was sad about that. I almos saw them in concert. Their third album wasn't all that good.

Heard of them

One of my friends is a HUGE GWAR fan - his license plate is even customized to say GWAR.

Here are some more:
Esthero
Lords of Acid
The Outfield
Better than Ezra
Gin Blossoms |
I used to be a huge Better Than Ezra ("Desperately Wanting" was my faovrite song by them forever) and Gin Blossoms fan
I think Sqiurrel Nut Zippers were also mentioned and they're pretty rockin' too.
I listen to a lot of
Rilo Kiley these days. From what I've found, not too many people have heard of them (although they're starting to gain in popularity). The only artist I can really compare them to is Liz Phair, and that's probably not really even making a fair comparison.
Also,
Muse is one of my top bands of all time. I love them dearly, and while I'm sure people must have heard about them by now (since their one single, "Time is Running Out" received a TON of airplay), they've been around for a while.
Remy Zero is another good band that I listen to quite frequently. Forget that "Smallville" used one of their songs from their latest album as it's theme - that song, IMO ("Save Me") is probably their worst song, ever.

The Group Android Lust I think is just flat out wocked awsome I mean alright besdies me being a Dorothy fan and attracted to the title, their music is like technoish but not the happy wahoo techno its more dark and poetic and the meaning behind some of the lyrics well they were strong for me so anywho if your board and you see it (I bought mine for $5) pic it up and give it a spin!

"Villa Elaine" (their second album) is awesome. I listen to it frequently. Also, their last album (they've since broken up, much to my dismay), "Golden Hum" is pretty awesome too. They're definitely worth a listen
Songs worth checking out:
"Hollow"
"Prophecy"
"Graymere"
"Glorious"
"Over the Rails & Hollywood High"

YUS! That's where I got my screenname from (Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt is the best song on the album "De Loused in the Comatorium"). In an ideal society/word/whatever, everyone would own that cd.
Here's some other bands I listen to that you've probobly never heard of:
-Mindless Self Indulgence
-Tub Ring
-Atom & His Package
-John 5 (ex-guitarist from
Marilyn Manson)
-Three Ton Gate
-Fetish
-Fast Eddie
-An Albatross
-At The Drive In
-Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
-Yeah Yeah Yeahs
-the Dandy Warhols
-The New Pornographers
-Pitchshifter
-World/Inferno Friendship Society
-Veruca Salt
-Sparta
-Static X (well, you might have heard of them

)
-Spacehog
-The Shins
-Leftover Crack
-Choking Victim
-Guttermouth
-Softball
-Nicotine
-Electric Eel Shock
-Mad Capsule Markets
-The Eels
I could go on and on...oh wait...I did...

I just thought of another pretty awesome band a lot of people might not of heard of:
Tilly and the Wall.
They opened for Rilo Kiley at the show I went to a couple weeks back. What makes them so unique (IMO) is the band is composed of two singers (one of which plays bass when needed), a guitarist, a keyboardist, and a tap dancer INSTEAD of a drummer. They're more folksy/emoy but they are worth a listen if you are a Rilo Kiley or mellow alternative music fan

There is this one group that is suspose to be realsing their cd soon. The Are Called
"Red Delicious"
I am in love with their song "Casualtites"
Not only did someone do a awsome Big O AMV to it but the song is just extremly powerful. The cd was suspose to be realized in August but apparently its not out yet still. The album was mentioned as "Scars and Addictions"
