Well here we have it, the thread for the essential MA films. Ah how far has this film genra streched? Well you could say that many Action films have sevral Martial Arts elements, or maybe this thread would be better named Martial Action Films... Well I'll be posting some movies that I watch over periods of time...

Returner-

Ah yes, the Japanese equal to Equilibrium, or maybe even the infamous Matrix. The movie is full of corny little things, but the overall product is good. Great audio (DVD) Smile . I'd have to say that this movie isn't completely original, but is full of unique moments. This is a MUST if your still watching Van Dam films. Its more action than martial tecnique but whos going to judge?

Awesome Thread Irrelavant Big Grin ! I love Martial Arts films
like Jet Li . his Legendary film
Fist Of Legend , this film was too Astonishing for your Average
Martial Arts film and the way he fights makes him look more
Lethal than Jackie Chan. And also his film that I own is Contract
Killer , that was an Excellent film with alot of Martial Art Sequences.
Lol but for some Reason everytime My Sister and my Aunt be
watching that film ,for some odd reason they fall asleep ,
Oh well. another film that was strongly Similer to the Matrix
was ,"The One" and I actually thought it was a Sequal to the
Matrix but it was an Over the top film. But nevertheless Jet Li
is the Man. Also another Marvelous Film that was too Spectacular
was "Iron Monkey" and what seems to be so Astonishing is the
Fight Scenes from Martial Arts Superstar and Director
Donnie Yen . The way
he fights is like Gravity defying and the way he landed his kicks
on the ,Shadow Kick , I was blown away when I saw that part.
this is film that is A MUST SEE if any of you are into Martial Arts
Action Films...great now I sound like a Critic

and the Film that is one of the Greatest Sci Fi Action Films of
all times has definately got to be the Matrix Nuff Said !although
People say that I look like Neo (Keanu Reeves) , He is
My Favorite Character from the Movie. I like the fight scenes
from when he entered into the Mansion in Martix Reloaded
if any of you saw that part you'll know what I mean , but I'm
not going to continue further more I don't want to spoil the
film for ya. But Overall that Movie made History ,everybody
was trying to copy off of that film.

From what I saw of The Game of Death on AMC it looks like it would've been an awesome movie. It's a shame that Bruce Lee had to die before he could complete the film! Crying

All of his other movies are fantastic too!

Speaking of essential, I think any martial arts fan should pick up Yojimbo, Sanjuro, and Hidden Palace. They all happen to be films by Akira Kurosawa and of course star the greatest martial arts actor this world has ever seen, Toshiro Mifune!
They've played all of these movies on IFC during samurai Saturday (I think that's what the block was called...if they're even playing it anymore. Just a heads up to you guys that happen to have the channel.)
Also keep in mind these films were made in the early fifties or later...so this isn't exactly a Jet Lee film. -__-
Not that there's anything wrong with zany action...which brings me to Kung Pow...which is probably the funniest movie I've ever seen...really. Big Grin
