Paranoia Agent

Now, was that police officer/pervert that girls real dad (that she adored so much) or was he her uncle, since the grandmother lady said she was living with her aunt - Oh wait - the granddaughter was a different character. So that girl who got amnesia wasn't related to that old lady. My, things get confusing. I like how there are all of these connections. Though some of these characters are very disturbing.

Wow....just...wow. That episode was beyond creepy. We could see the officer getting more and more obsessed as the show went on, but in this episode he acted genuinely insane. It was also pretty apparent that the prime suspect was in desperation. The interogations were pretty brutal, and he seems rather young to stand all of that. Much of this episode seemed almost imaginary. The entire magic trick scene was obviously not real, though it was an odd prediction of the future in a way. The old man obviously has something to do with all of this. He is featured too much, in too many ways for him not to be. I cannot tell what happened to the suspect though. Both officers saw someone matching the description of "Little Slugger" with a bloody bat. However, everyone is saying its a suicide. Both officers were at a breaking point, they could have hallucinated, but it just doesn't seem to make sense. Also, how could both the last victim be attacked at the same time the first victim felt Little Slugger's presence. It seems far too odd. The officer's final message of desperation was truly scary. It honestly freaked me out the way he heavingly gasped his revelations into the radio.

P.S.
Did anyone else notice the bird chirpings in the opening? It seems to me that they are trying to make the viewers just as paranoid. A few weeks ago there was a wierd voice in the credits (its still there) that I could have sworn was not there before, and I am almost 90% positive there were no birds in the first opening. Maybe I am wrong, and am simply going crazy. Anyone else picking up on this? Tell me it is not just me.

I think that's always been like that. I think it's even in the full version of the theme.

You're just paranoid Tongue

That was probably the best episode so far. I had a feeling that cop was going to crack sooner or later. Can't wait to see the remaining episodes... speaking of which, how many are left?

Sephiroth, did you notice that Detective Ikari's brand of cigarettes was labeled "HOPE"? He went threw the entire pack just before he gave up the Lil Slugger case, and his young partner Detective Maniwa, had his nervous breakdown.

For these former police detectives, all hope of solving the case has run out.

((Once again, Kat appears from out of nowhere! =D))

Anyone pay close attention to the scrambled radio signal being played throughout the episode? I'm almost completely certain it's the same as what plays at the beginning of "Orenji no Taiyou" by Gackt & Hyde.

One of my very favorite songs. Pleased

Hee! the young detective whose name i can never remember is a ham!!

when i heard the scrambled radio, it sounded like someone tuning up and down the band. then i saw the frequency, and the straight-key, and he started calling CQ!!!!

hooray for multi-geekdom!!!

Sheer Brilliance. Few shows can really make suicide funny, and Paranoia Agent pulled it off brilliantly. I really liked the trio, they seemed like the perfect family in a way. Plus, I liked the old guy's hair (don't ask). I was worried that the old man would accidently die due to lack of medication, but it turned out that his last pill was not his last pill at all. I was also shocked to learn that the prime suspect for little slugger knew that trio. If he had not been arrested, he may well have been with them. On the subject of Little Slugger, there was no way that was the real thing. He was obviously attacking at random, unlike the real one, however it was funny to see him get chased down the stairs. The ending scene with the Condoms, just felt right over all. I guess maybe the Happy Family Planning was meant to represent the three of them ( a happy planned family) but I could be totally off base (and probably am). Great Episode over all.

KIDS, DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME! Shocked
Green_Bird 07-17-2005 12:51 AM
That kid was annoying O_o ....But still....it was strangely funny. I don't know why I like dark humor....but I just do....I also thought the old guy would acidently die, but he made it through the whole episode, they all did, no matter how hard they tried to find ways of killing themselves....The lil' slugger part was good too Big Grin ....I couldn't stop laughing....

And was it just me or did they leave a Shounen Bat (Lil' Slugger's original name) reffrence in the subtittles for the chat? I could be wrong though....

....They're dead. They've been dead since before the subway scene.

The scene at the end where the old man freaks out is because he notices none of them have shadows. And after the camera scene it was pretty dang obivious they weren't alive.

Although I'm a bit puzzled at why the old man wanted to die. The girl was alone, and Zebra apparently was too (we assume his boyfriend left or something)

The titlecard (at the end) could be seen as irony, just to add to the whole black comedy of this episode.

So That's why the girls with the camera freaked out! Man, I am not perceptive. I thought they were still alive, but I was totally off base. I just thought he freaked out because he lacked medication, but it all seems to make sense now. If I watch it again I'm sure I would be able to catch the whole shadow thing. Still, they make a good, dead family.
Green_Bird 07-17-2005 01:49 PM
Okay...so...I kind of missed the shadow thing, too....I guess'll have too rewatch the episode. And I just thought that the girls were freaking out because they weren't ready for they to walk by....Strange thing too...I would have been the first one to notice that.....So I'm kind of surprised I didn't.....

And I think the old guy wanted to die because he had medical problems and he didn't want to suffer anymore.
Ano Hito 07-17-2005 07:35 PM
Whoa, I totally didn't notice that. Are you sure?
Schoolie 07-19-2005 08:54 AM
Oh yeah, I guess that makes sense that they're dead already. I'll have to watch closely next time.

The other scene that adds to that idea is when they see the subway suicide guy limping away complaining how painfulit was.

Very strange show. Definitely not for kids. But I'll see this show to the end.
Collateral 07-22-2005 12:38 AM
I guessed that they were dead. It hit me when the girls took the picture. I noticed that they didn't do anything when the trio stood up behind them. I never realized the shadow part though. I thought it was a lack of medication as well but if you think of it it makes sense. Whenever the old guy touched Zebra's hand he said that it felt warm so apparently he was referring to the possibility of them being dead.

Okay just some crazy theory...
Maybe they were dead even before the episode began. That was why they were alone. Then they joined that group online which consisted of others who were dead and alone as well. I mean, we have the proof of that guy who jumped in front of the train. Apparently there are more then just them.

I know...it is crazy!

Can't be. They had shadows before the building was destoryed.
