Paranoia Agent

Wow....

That was goddamn amazing.

I'm sorry, but the way that was written was just brilliant.

And yeah, good idea, Sharpshooter. Go around Psych wards with a louisville slugger and BAM! Instant cure.

Just a little side question/comment/whatever...sorta related?

Isn't Paranoia Agent done by the same guy who did Perfect Blue? And isn't Perfect Blue the anime whose rights were purchased by Darren Aronofsky to make just that one scene in the bathtub?

Just a random question...

In tonight's episode, we see that the injured Ichii's tutor, Harumi Chono, is suffering from a mulitple personality disorder in which she's a popular call girl named Maria. Harumi has been getting treatment for her disorder, but the closer she gets to freedom, the stronger the Maria personality becomes.

Interestingly, Ichii tell's Harumi that he's glad that he was attacked because Lil Slugger has set him free. That night when Maria returns, "dragging" Harumi out into the city streets, she is attacked by Lil Slugger. Harumi awakens days later in the hospital and the detectives comment on how relieved she appears.

Right now, it seems like Lil Slugger is an entity who's purpose is to make people confront and conquer their fears.

Yes, Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent are made by the same person. That's probably why tonight's episode reminded me so much of Perfect Blue. I don't know about Darren Aronofsky purchasing the rights though.

So...he whacked that reporter just to up his overall batting average? I can't figure how that one fits into things. Maybe I'm forgetting something though.

Well it IS pretty hard to compulsively wash your hands if you're in a coma..

Well the reporter was having to deal with paying off a loan, and had fallen on hard times. The Little Slugger case was supposed to be his big break, however he was making no progress with it. They certainly didn't go into his mentality during the experience, though I'm sure that before hand he was rather desperate and worried about his future. There were several times when it appeared that he was almost completely bankrupt, and the extent that he was searching for Little Slugger showed his desperation for a story. Thus, Little Slugger freed him from his worries. Well thats my guess at least.

In the opening when everyone is talking on their cellphones ,almost all of the voices you hear are of people lieing or complaining . the old man knows what is going on (at first i though he was lil slugger)

the second episode hit a little close to home with me as I had to change schools several times because I was being bullied by the popular kid/kids Frown

as for the third episode ....I'v always been wierded out my multiple personality disorders. I under stand its a sierous condition but the thought of another sentient being in my head terrifies me .

"WOW. A Twin Peaks reference (cherry stem tied into a knot), oh good for the writers. Just for that it gets points. I seriously, seriously wonder how many people got that...it even took a couple of minutes for me to make the connection, probably because I watched that show when I was a kid and barely remember it. Or..maybe it was unintentional...I HIGHLY doubt it though."

i didn't catch that episode...but i would have caught that reference!

Audrey Horne lives!!!

ok, i'll shut up now
Sharpshooter005 06-14-2005 12:08 AM
Yeah it took me a minute, I kept going "...No wait, that seems REALLY familiar", then it clicked.

Now we just need the little stuffed toy to begin speaking backwards to one of the detectives.

Heh, that was a strange episode indeed. Anyone else catch that fat guy talking to his action figures after having sex with Maria at the beginning of the episode? I think he needs to be smacked with the baseball bat next.

Starting Saturday, June 25, Paranoia Agent will be on at 1AM PST/EST

Wow, qutie the episode. That cop really creeped me out. Once again, we saw a pretty visable break down in his life. It just became progressively worse and worse, until in the end he was hit by "little slugger". I find it hard to believe though, that the kid who hit him is indeed Little Slugger. The way he acted as he hit the cop and ran away seemed too different. Little Slugger never really stopped to gloat over his victims, and he definatly never spoke. I just can't believe it would be that easy to catch him.

I also wonder what the drug the cop took was. It apparently did help with his exhaustion, but he definatly went completely insane as well. It was interesting to see how his life and the comic he was reading began to merge as time went on. Very odd stuff. I really can't wait to see what is going to happen next. This series just keeps getting better and better.

This was a disturbing episode. I hope that cop didn't touch that little girl.

I don't think he caught the real Lil Slugger either. He never stopped to admire his handiwork before, and I don't recall him scrapping his bat along the street.

While the cop is being called a hero for catching Lil Slugger, his victims can identify him. The following episodes could have him under serious investigation by I.A. and the media, further inflaming his paranoia until he crosses paths with the real Lil Slugger.

I loved how in order to commit crimes that guy had to think of that comic hero and how he would quote him while robbing people. I liked seeing him fall into insanity like that. I also liked him beating up the kid with the bat. He had it coming to him.
Tickle Tickle 06-19-2005 09:33 AM
I really don't think it was Lil' Slugger ethier. I think maybe it was a dream, maybe he didn't really get up and beat down the boy. Maybe he brought in some other boy or something.
Wazpy 06-19-2005 10:49 AM
I thought it might have something to do with the pill that that guy gave him, although I assumed that was a suicide pill.
