I'm highly reccomending this anime, after watching the initial 6 episodes of this series, I have come to the conclusion that EVERYONE should give this series a shot. Especially fans of Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, or Boogiepop Phantom. This is Satoshi Kon's first TV series, and he does a wonderful job developing the characters in their short but amazing 22 minute episodes.

I finished this not that long ago and liked it, but I feel it doesn’t live up to “Perfect Blue” and definitely falls short of the classic “Millennium Actress.”
This afternoon NPR had a piece on Paranoia Agnet. I was a bit annoyed by the reporter who struck me as just another elitest. You can have a listen to it from NPR's website.
Minor spoilers ahead.

That was quite awesome, though I had expected it to be. It reminded me A LOT of Perfect Blue, though I'm following the story a little better. I really like how the kid started off so small and vague, and then suddenly it spread like wildfire. I suppose thats why they call it Paranoia though. The old woman scared me though, and so did that little pink thing. I hate cute little things that talk. Regardless, it was quite an intriguing (and I don't use that word often) show. I'm definatly interested in seeing the rest.

I've already seen the first three, but I look foward to watching the rest of the series. From what I've heard, it really screws with your mind.

I just saw the first episode...strange indeed.
On the plus side, that girl Tsukiko is cute. So I'll keep watching.

The preview I saw made it look like some insane hybrid of FLCL and Millennium. What with the malevolent looking kid skating along in the dark with a bat.
Then again...if you were to effectively combine those two shows, the result would be something quite possibly only palatable to me. So I'm sure its a bad analogy.
edit: I don't mean Millennium Actress, which I've never seen. No what I meant is a combination of FLCL and that show about the ex-FBI profiler who has horrific visions of murders, and in the first season his friend is slaughtered and left hanging in his basement by a demonic being of some sort. Like I said, I'm the only person who would watch that.
Also, I probably had the opposite reaction to the person who said Samurai Champloo was a good change from whats been shown lately, as I lost interest halfway through the episode that was..just on...Hopefully that won't happen with paranoia agent though.

Darn I guess I just missed it although it sounds like something I might be interested in I am a huge fan of Perfect Blue, and also Millenium Actress.
So does anyone know its contuing schedule and times?

I just saw the first episode. I'm very excited about this show ^_^ I haven't been struck by a show like this since. . . okay, admittedly last week. But that was a movie. And who knew Anakin Skywalker was such a freaky interesting character? Anywho, Paranoia Agent looks like it's just up my alley.
There have been quite a few promising animes coming out recently. Aside from Samurai Champloo and Paranoia Agent the last exciting and potentially revolutionary anime I've seen was sadly, admit it, Azumanga Daioh. The anime fandom needs more of these little jolts.

It was on my TV, but I wasn't paying attention. It failed to catch my interest. Try again next week, Paranoia Agent.

yeah.... that girl has an obvious psychological problem that nobody seems to grasp... unless the laws are really lax, and somehow she is not seeing a psychologist or w/e. kinda confusing, more expository information later perhaps.

Thanks for the translations Dork. I knew some were pretty important and I was bummed that I couldn't read them.

Was anyone else surprised that they let the word "bull****" go uncensored? Never thought I'd see that on AS... but anyway the show was pretty cool. The opening was pretty messed up, but the rest was cool.

I was going to compare this to Serial Experiments Lain..but...so far it seems ALOT more straightforward. Also I doubt it'll have anything unsettling (but gradually kind of cool) enough to top...the smiling sweater alien.
edit:...Okay, talking plush toy. I may have spoke too soon about this being that straightforward.
WOW. A Twin Peaks reference (cherry stem tied into a knot), oh good for the writers. Just for that it gets points. I seriously, seriously wonder how many people got that...it even took a couple of minutes for me to make the connection, probably because I watched that show when I was a kid and barely remember it. Or..maybe it was unintentional...I HIGHLY doubt it though.
I'm not registered on the AS forums, so I have no clue what the writing that periodically showed up is about. But I'm guessing this shows going to take some kind of turn involving the media and public opinion.
The main character (I'm..assuming she'll be the main character) creates wildly popular stuffed toys. The opening features people seemingly zombified by cell phones and walkmans. There are frequent cuts to newspaper headlines or intenet postings, heck, one of the characters even works for a newspaper. In addition, the baseball bat assailant is only shown in clearer focus after people being speculating as to his appearance (he then takes on the exact characteristics ascribed to him). But maybe I'm just grasping at straws..still, it sems like thats where the plot is headed.
In any event, so far its got me interested. The opening credits are definately..odd.
edit again: Wait was this done by the same people behind Lain? I know it's apparently being distributed over here by the same company that did the SEL dvds. Because if so...yeah, that series started out FAIRLY simple (dead girl contacts lain through internet, questions arise), then gradually started to get kind of weird (again, an ALIEN appears in her room, grins at her, then fades out of view. Later in the episode, the main character herself just pops up in someones room clothed exactly like said alien, and thats not even getting into the evil alter-ego, or the guy who says he's God.)

Doesn't seem too confusing.... yet. I can see it getting even more interesting.
My only problem so far is that the people who dubbed the anime seemed to have forgotten that WE DON'T READ JAPANESE.
So in scenes where she is browsing the forum or someone is reading a newspaper headline, I have to make my best guess based on context....
