Is anyone looking forward to the "new", well at least to the US, wu xia(Chinese martial arts) flick, "Hero" as much as I am? All I can say is that just from seeing the trailer, this movie looks amazing. Everything from the cinematography and scenery to the fight scenes and choreography look unlike any other movie I've seen, it even looks more impressive than "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", a movie in the same genre, which is saying something. The movie is directed by famous Chinese director Yang Zhimou and is being brought over thanks to Quentin Tarantino himself, and Miramax. The movie is also now China's largest grossing film ever. The story is something about a warrior who has to protect the emperor from three assasins who would kill him. But then, the story's not too important now is it? Big Grin I mean, most people are going to be watching it for the fight scenes and all that. There is also a lot of hype surrounding the movie because it is the first time two of the most famous Chinese martial arts actors, internationally-famous Jet Li, and Donnie Yen, of "Iron Monkey" fame and a whole bunch of other famous martial arts flicks, square off in a fight.
If you haven't seen the trailer yet, you should:

damn right! I've only seen a few of his, well, one, and some parts here and there of two, but they've all been really great. Kill Bill(collectively), because it's considered one film, I guess, even though the two parts are radically different, has been one of my favorite and most brilliant, awesome action movies in recent memory. It's got style and lots of humor, the writing is intelligent, the characters are intriguing, especially Bill, and it's got some of the most kick-ass fight scenes I've ever seen in any movie! I just bought the dvd for volume 2, so now I can watch the whole "movie"(both parts) all over again! Even though I've already seen volume 1 about three times. Laughing but this will be my second time watching volume 2. I've also seen a few scenes from pulp fiction and reservoir dogs, but I've been impressed from what I saw. Tarantino is clearly a master film maker who uses music and clever dialogue to create his scenes and make them some of the most unique in film. And "Kill Bill" is basically an ode to all the classic Chinese kung-fu and martial arts genre films, which he's a huge fan of. It's also great that he's using his own money to bring over such great films as "Hero", which he clearly likes a lot, and has garnered huge critical acclaim almost across the board. If not for him, this film might not even be coming to North America so I'm pretty grateful. Also, he seems to be a huge fan of Asian cinema in general and has also had a hand in bringing over lots of other great Asian films, if you check your local video rental shop, there's almost a whole collection of them. However, what I thought was pretty dumb was some people were actually complaining about in the trailer, where they put "Quentin Tarantino presents...Hero". I mean, if someone's bringing a film over using THEIR own funds, then what does it matter if they put their name next to it, as presenting the film. But their complaint was mostly that they felt he was stealing credit for the film from Yang Zhimou and that people will feel he directed it, and had some hand in the production of the film, because the trailer was strategically placed before Kill bill vol.2 to lure those fans into the movie. Well, this argument falls flat, because even Tarantino himself has said he didn't want to put that there, but it was miramax who decided on it so that his name was associated with it and would bring in the money.
