The Ring!

YES! The Ring franchise, the franchise that gave me Sadako Yamamura! The Ultimate Horror Movie Enemy person.
As a quick history the Ring started in 1991 as a book in japan, it spawned two sequals and prequal (Spiral, Loop, and Birthday) and after three TV seriees (Which I hear sucked) and a manga they made a film, it only cost 1.2 million to make it and it grossed over 15 milion (As a note "Ring" was released at the same time as its sequal "Spiral" aka "Rasen" but few people knew Rasen existed) dollars, after that there was another Sequal (Ring 2, they basically pretended Rasen never happened) a prequal (Ring 0) a Korean\Japan joint production (Ring Virus) and an American Remake (The Ring)
So, anyone else here like the Ring as much as I do?

I have the US version of The Ring on DVD. I though it was a pretty good movie. It sure scared some of my family members, so...

Anyway, I haven't seen the original Japanese versions yet. Are there any big differences between the US and the Japanese versions besides different actors and actresses? Just wondering. Otherwise, it's a pretty good movie for those who want a good freight!
Later,
Trisa

Yea, there a quite a lot of differences, it would take me a while to list them all.
But I have a visual comparsion for you:
http://www.mandiapple.com/snowblood/ringcompare.htm that site compares the Japanese original, the Korean and American version side by side. Major spoilers though.

Like I said....The reason was that I saw the Ring was the Cursed tape trailor (The whole thing!!!) I still live in fear because of that, I don't wach USA network pass 1:00AM....because that's when I saw it, when it first was played a month before the normal trailors. after the first time I didn't want to see it again! Because I thought I would die! Now, it's just ehh....It's just a movie, but the Cursed tape thing still scares the bajebbers out of me!
Well anyway, I saw it the first time when it first came out in theaders. I was 13, it was my first horror movie. I was scared....I couldn't even look at Samara's face! After I saw it the first time I couldn't sleep in my room, I was afrade of creepy demon zombie girls coming out of the TV! After a week I started sleeping in my room again because I thought the threat had passed.
I saw it again a few months ago. Also I saw Samara's TV face for the first time. A friend of mine helped me get over the fear when she said that she looked like golum in a wig. So anyway we wached it, and since I was older, I didn't think it was the least bit scary....I kind of liked it. Since then I have read the first book.
I have yet to see the japanese ones. But people said that thoughs were scarier. is that right?

Two things mainly freaked the hell out of me after seeing that movie...
1: The faces of the people who died. The first 5 minutes of the english remake was enough for it to make my scary movie list...
2: The fear that Samara might come out of my TV 7 days after I watched it >_>
But the books seem interesting, I might pick up the novels. (Not the movies, I was so freaked out by those faces that I'm probably never going to watch it again ._.; )

I don't know how the Japanese version was, but the American version isn't scary. Oh, it's creepy as hell (especially since I'm a firm believer in the supernatural) but I don't know, it just never really scared me when I saw it.

Come on....it's not half as scary the second time around! If I can get over my fear of Samara's and the people she killed faces, you can too

If the killer tape had been on beta, I'd have found the whole thing more disturbing.

Problem is I don't think very many people had Beta tapes.
It would be WRONG if it was a DVd. With Menus.

So far there has only been a few short news articles and a poster for twO, the US Ring sequel. Should be interesting how it turns out, especially since the first one took more from the Ring 2 JPN.

It may have not been the cursed tape, but I remember Samara's Psychward tape was in Beta.

i saw the american version with my mom (both of us almost had a heart attack after we saw it), and i'm kinda scared to see the japanese version (out of fear i might get scared to death), that and the stupid people at blockbuster put an 18+ sticker on it. Prons is the japanese version a 18+ kind of movie?

Ring Virus....(Its now on DVD in the states) It's just a remake of Ringu with parts of the novel thrown in. There is no Sex (Other then the menchen of Rape, but I don't know if they show it or not!) But the Aidan/Youchi character is a girl. That was the only Korean verson I know of.....
You may have mixed up a parody that was on some Japanese show with the aidan character waching the "Cursed tape" but it was Anna standing infront of the mirorr nude....the rachel character is trying to cover his eyes, but he was making a copy of it!

In 1995 there was a film called "The Ring: Complete Editon" the actress whom played Sadako was a porn star, (Note: I don't think the Sadako back then had the trademark long black hair.) and so there was a ton of SEX involved in the movie, the version of it on Video was pratically porno, and they used censorships they only use for porn movies.
So that was the film I think you mentioned that had a lot of sex, in fact I hear at the end
| spoiler (highlight to read): |
| When Sadako came in at the end to kill Ryuji, she was naked and hodling a baby. As a note even though Sadako had TF she still had a baby... and in the 95 film, Sadako was in an incest relationship with her father |
