ok, so I beat it (and I'm bored) so here's a guide to all the weapons in the game.
(spoilers)
Fists: When you really have nothing left, punch things. But you'll probably get mauled pretty quickly. The flashlight pretty much always hurts more.
Flashlight: You'll use this a lot, because none of the lights on Mars work. You can also whack enemies with it, 2 or 3 good smacks will kill a zombie.
Pistol: Decent power, its bullets are more powerful than the submachine gun's, but it's semi-auto and only holds 12 rounds. Good against Zombies, Trites (spider things) and Lost Souls (flying screaming heads). Trites and Lost Souls can only take 2 hits but it can be hard to hit them.
12 bullets per clip.
Shotgun: Your best friend for most of the game. Useless at long range but a good shot right in the face will kill most enemies that you'll find.
holds 8 shells.
Machinegun: A little bit weaker than the pistol, but it shoots faster (duh) and holds 60 bullets at a time. It has a bad habit of chewing through ammo quickly though, so be careful. I use this gun a lot, particularly when it's hard or impossible to get close enough to use the shotgun effectively.
holds 60 bullets.
Chaingun: Like the machine gun, it holds 60 bullets. But each bullets hurts more, and it shoots way faster. It's less accurate though, so it's not as good at long range. It also eats ammo even faster than the machine gun.
holds 60 bullets.
spoiler (highlight to read):
You can get the Chaingun early from a Martian Buddy cabinet. I forget if it is in Administration or Alpha Labs, but it's definitely before Enpro. You can open the cabinet with code 0508 (or 0805, I forget which)
Grenades: Throw it at what you want to die. They hurt a lot but bounce like crazy so be careful.
you can hold 50 nades.
Plasma Gun: Seems to be more effective on bigger, later enemies than weaker ones. Holds 50 plasma cells at a time and can shoot pretty quick. Plus, the shots are really big, so it's great at shooting down rockets *coughRevenantcough*
Rocket Launcher: The rockets do the same damage as grenades, but this is a better way of sending them towards someone. And even though it's wasteful, it's fun to smack an Imp upside the head with a rocket.
Holds 5 at a time.
BFG 9000: This is why you play the game. Only holds 4 shots at a time but can clear a roomful of demons quick, and look wicked cool doing it. Plus, you can hold the trigger and charge it, but if you charge it too long it will explode and turn you into a puddle.
spoiler (highlight to read):
The game "wants" you to get the BFG after fighting Sarge, but you can get it in two places in Delta Labs. First, in what I *think* is Delta Labs 2a, there is an office you can open with the code 931. Second, there is a Martian Buddy cabinet you can open in a later Delta level with the code 0508 (or 0805, I forget which)
Chainsaw: I think this does more maiming than the BFG, but the drawback is that it only will kill things about a foot in front of you so be careful.

Soul Cube: The ancient Martians used this thousands of years ago to repel the demons. Apparently they sacrificed most of their race and the cube absorbed their souls.
The Cube has to be charged up by killing 5 enemies with any regular weapons, then you will hear it say "Use Us" and an icon will appear in the corner. Then scroll to it or press q (the default hotkey) and chuck it in the general direction of the enemy. It will go and kill whatever is in front of it (I'm not completely sure, but I think it seeks out the strongest guy in the room) and refill your health. Nifty. |
