Huh. Funny, I was going to say that no one believes me when I say that I don't hate anybody at all.

What makes me sad is that hate seems to be an accepted emotion, even though it is terrible and sometimes even deadly. I find it to be a fantastic waste of brainpower. Besides, do people actually enjoy hating others? Do they always like being so angry? I know I don't like feeling angry... It's very painful.

But what makes me feel worse is that some people don't do anything to fight their anger, especially when it's something like hate, which you can actually choose not to have. I chose years ago to stop hating. I just wish other people would realize the same.

A very wise author once said that the opposite of love isn't hate, but indifference. Hate, he said, is "I love you, why are you being so mean to me?" Hate is meant to get you your love back.

Oddly, it's true. At first I said "no, that can't be right, what about people who just hate other people who are different from them?" But they hate because they feel threatened, like there isn't enough love in the world for them and those they hate. It's akin to sibling jealousy, that by destroying those "others" they will get their love back.

Fear leads to Anger. Anger leads to Hate. Hate leads to suffering.

If you can look at another person and realize that they are just another scared human being, just like you, most of the hate fades away.

Me too.

No new confessions today. I have stuff that I could say but I'm not ready to talk about them yet.

Zola, a lot of that makes sense to me. And you are awesome because you quoted Yoda!!

My confession:
spoiler (highlight to read):
Once again I have fallen in love with a girl in another state! But this time is a lot different from last time! Last time I fell 'in love' with a girl right before I left for Virginia. But now I realize that was just a stupid crush which I completely blew out of proportion.

But this time is definitely different. Considering that I know that this girl actually likes me. The only real problem this time is the distance: 1367 miles. But we always have awesome conversations online and on the phone and stuff. I just hope and wish and pray that something bad doesn't happen like her falling for someone else and forgetting about me or her saying to herself "long-distance can't work". Cuz obviously it can since we're doing it right now. And I might be able to come back sometimes.

Anyway, being in love is such a great feeling! I just hate when it goes away, which is why I don't want it too!

I haven't had a real talk with one of my friends for weeks now (there was a small change but it went right back). It saddens me. I can see these signs that something is going on but my friend really doesn't want to talk about it. But I'm not sure if I want to listen. Not that I've even asked. I poke and prod but I never bluntly ask.

Actually, thinking about it again this morning...

spoiler (highlight to read):
I would listen and my friend knows that. If it was an open honest talk, I would listen. I'd be there. It's just that recently its been hard to talk to them.

There is little or nothing you can do but wait. All the poking and prodding in the world is not going to move this ....mule. Only when they decide that they still trust you will they open up. Look at FP's and Wienbergs posting on love in here I found it very helpful.

I must be doing something wrong, because I have been blown off by every girl that I have met the entire time I've been in college. I'm always nice to everyone and I get stepped on in return and I'm sick of it.

I think I'm just more mature than most people. Most other guys I know just want to get laid and for some reason girls love them, I actually want a relationship and get shoved to the side.
Avenir 11-04-2004 05:15 PM
This isn't easy, but it must be said. Nearly everything I have explained myself as on this forum is false, and I lied to you all. I don't live in Georgia, I'm not 23, I'm not a security consultant, and I don't own a Honda Accord; I actually live in Memphis, Tennessee, I'm 15, and just a student. It started as a privacy issue that was taken too far and manipulated into a lie. But, after awhile I grew to find nearly all of you trustworthy and friendly. Therefore, I must confess and tell the truth and nothing but.

This is very hard for me to say as you are all friends to me and it would sadden me to grace harm upon any of you. I am saying this while I am still a little new here to prevent something in the future. To those who were misled by me, I apologize with my upmost word. I should have never comitted such a sin.

It really is unfair, and I don't see why either. I know its hard to take, but girls like mean guys becuase of "drama" or something. they think those guys want relationships and nice guys only want to be friends.

And Avenir... wow... but I'm 15 too, nothing to be ashamed in being 15.

Thats okay Avenir, I consider you one of my friends and the fact that you are 15 is just cool because it measn you are pratically the same age as I am.

This entire "girls like 'mean' guys" thing is a mystery to me. Am I being spiteful in the wrong ways, or something? You'd think I'd have some kind of harem following me around. Not like it really, seeing as how..well, distance and terrible luck have kind of ruined one of the only good things I had going.
Dude Love 11-04-2004 05:21 PM
Very good, Avenir, and I am very proud of you being able to admit a lie like that. Many people in your position would perpetuate the lie. That was very courageous of you, and I'm sure most everyone will understand.

Avenir, I totally understand why you made that decision but I'm glad that you figured out that we are a nice bunch of people. That you decided to be honest with us.

23... 15... doesn't matter to me.

First and foremost, I suppose I should begin by confessing my age. As you can tell, this is a subject I tend to avoid, and I even purposely left out a date of birth in my profile. Well, the reason for this is because I have found that many people tend to form first impressions based on one's age, believing it to be a propoer measuring stick for maturity. This is something I wholeheartedly disagree with, and while I recognize that just about everyone on these forums really don't care about age, it was still something I didn't want to reveal just in case it did change someone's opinion of me.

However, I also realize that hiding my age really makes me no better, as it implies a lack of trust among my fellow forum members...it also, I think, leads to some misconceptions that I should be much more willing to reveal.

I actually quasi-revealed my age once (well, Wienberg did it in the thread, I only confirmed it), but I don't think many people remember that thread. So, for the second (and probably last) time, I shall reveal my true age...

I am sixteen years old, which makes me the youngest of the moderators and only a baby compared to a lot of the other, more frequent posters. I suppose one reason I'm always hesitant to reveal my age is because a lot of adults tend to ignore the opinions and thoughts of other people my age, because we either haven't experienced enough of the world, aren't mature enough, not knowledgable/intelligent enough...and I really detest that. It doesn't help that several of my peers do an excellent job of living up to these expectations. I'm thankful that the majority of posters here really don't pay attention to age, and are accepting of just about everyone's opinions.

What The Fallen Phoenix said is another reason why I put down a false age. I have been to some boards that were age prejuduce and where people belittled each other due to age. While many can strike up a pretty intelligent conversation, others tend to make total fools out of theselves.

Hmmm....would the word "meh" apply?

It's all good. Not like you did something remotely completely stupendously serious. I really don't blame you, most of the internet is something you can't really put your personal info on (no, i am not some kind of wannabe soccermom who thinks all the internet's full of crazies and rapists); you were being cautious. Well, there's nothing wrong with being 15. But i'm pretty glad you found that you could trust us. Smile
