this is what i believe the truth to be in Big O
first thing paradigm city is a stage = nothings is real and its like a puppet show;
this city is much like the matrix, the people are real and are the remnants of whatever happened 40 years ago.
These people live in a constant state of mental reset, like the trumain show, with most of the people being the trumains; rebuilding their cities over and over and over again repeatedly. You can see this with all the destroyed civilizations and flashbacks of robot mayhem. Though most of these flashbacks are from the most recent reset.
As for roger himself, I think he is not real, at first i thought he was a robot when they showed him on act 26 with the assembly but i ruled that out for obvious reasons because he clearly bleeds and exhales vapor when he sighs. So what is roger? and why is he on the previous remnants of memories? (especially when he wears different clothes or lies dead).
So who is roger? well he could be an actor, inside a show called "BIG O" he does say its showtime when hes going to perform his heroism; and also there are hints that hes a merchandise when we see a mini scale Dorothy in Act 26; oh and also we see a poster of the series at the very end when Angel is crying and Roger grabs hers shoulder.
Come to think of it the robot copies of Roger could act as stunt doubles as silly as that sounds. Sad to think that nothing is real.
As for Dorothy theres where i flinch from my theories; in act 26 she says in a robotic voice that roger is the negociator; that means that Dorothy is actually a robot actress and not a human actress; this would be feasable because of the scale of special effects that they use (ermm megaduses, or maybe virtual megaduses?). This means that its a very advanced civilization. Maybe its a TV show designed to show the audience(which is not seen in the show) the threat of what could happen if technology is not handeled properly.
As for Angel, she is sad to see that she has to erase memories of the many trumains (paradigm people) that live in a constant state of confusion.
Though i still find it unclear of why to build paradighn in the first place; why put these people in so much pain, maybe something really happened in the time of this advanced civilization, this caused them to experiment and see what would be the best civilization to build whiile at the same time entertaining their audience. its like a drama of learning.
One piece found unclear, what the fudge is this roger with different clothes, why was he found dead? inside another big O. Could it be an stunt double android having sudden flash backs that the real actor actually suffered? Did the real actor Roger Smith died in an accident while taping the show? Was the roger with different clothes a test android or an earlier version of the show? much like Drangon Ball (roger=white) Dragon Ball Z (Roger Black)
Whatever the case the real roger is apparently aware of whats going on at least on some instances; this means two rogers one human one machine.
This would explain why he stutters on the reset "My name is............................ Roger Smith" that would mean that an android roger was reset again for the start of a new season (not looping because of the previous events of the other season) this reset made him consious at least for a second that he has lost his memory once again. Oh and as for Angel and Dorothy. Dorothy is an android that is maybe reset frequently and Angel the Boss of the Show walks in and out of reality as she pleases watching what android roger is doing to see how the show is running so far.
Oh and as for Grandpa Rosewater; hes fully aware that nothing is real and thats its all practically a show. Though it doesnt really explain why roger was one of the few with implanted memories. Maybe explains that how the stunt doubles were implanted memories so that they could play the real Roger. This would explain their state of agitation.
In conclusion its unclear how the "Big O show" inside the big O show is really run; how they switch real Rogers with robot Rogers is unclear.
but that doesnt matter because i have now concluded my theory

My explaination of the end of Season 2:
There was a reset, although not everything went to the same as it was in around the time of Act 1. The characters are probably the same characters with a different script and the same ol' amensia.
After a certain amount of time, the simualtion known as Paradigm City restarts because of some uncertain paradoxes.
To me, there is no "ending" to Season 2. Because there's no ending to Paradigm City. Hahaha...
I forgot to vote. There was a reset.
Peace.

I think it was a re-set and that the Director can change the Stage/Play/City as they like, and Angel kept her memories of Dorothy and Roger, and allowed Dorothy to keep hers. As Angel says; "I know you don't like me Dorothy, which is a shame, because I like you." OR something like that, I think Angel wanted someone to stay with her.
She does give the impresion earlier on that she was going to leave Roger alone, maybe she stays with that and leaves him to Dorothy... Flawed I know and a long stretch but it's a theory.

I can't sleep guys, i don't know why, i feel like i should make an anime club or something. ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! but is that a step back from maturity???? ahhhhhhhhhh im so confused.........
oh an as for you post; please give proof of how dorothy is allowed to keep her memories after reset i mean i really dont see any evidence of her remembering anything after reset; in anycase she shouldnt remember anything anyway anyhow because she doent have her cd drive thing. If she can remember anything is the "true love" thing that she has for roger; which allowed to save him and yata yata yata.......

I'd say that we lack sufficient context to be able to tell, I think a great deal of the ending is left to interpretation. You might say I'm dodging the issue, but like Roger Smith, I'm just having trouble committing to one truth.
The ending of seasons two is frustrating and beautiful, (so much so that episode 26 has earned the moniker 'Damn Episode 26!' in our house), every time I walk away I do so with a different reaction, and a different idea as to what really happened, which is why I can re-watch the series on such a regular basis... That and the whole 'obsessive fan' thing.
But seriously, all we know is that some form of reset occurred, but to what degree we have no clue. Does everyone have his or her memories? Does no one? Dorothy and Angel 'seem' to recognize Smith's car, but then again, a lot of the characters recognize a lot of stuff throughout the series that have to do with their cryptic lost memories, but they don't actually remember anything specific.
At least we can be pretty certain that negotiations succeeded, and the people of paradigm are capable of changing their roles if they want to. Whatever that means.
