Just for the record, GK, I think your reasoning is perfectly justified.

o hey its just liek the hentai thread, lets be spiteful jerks and not listen to silver and gang up on him

Silver, seriously. Read what FP wrote. No one's ganging up on you. You have to learn that just because people disagree with you doesn't mean they're out to get you.

And I also think GK's reasoning is justified...

if it was anyone but wienberg or fenix i know that, but those 2 purposely apose everything i say, even other members have noticed and msged me about it

For stuff that’s not on Cartoon Network, I would recommend:

Boogiepop Phantom, Berserk, Haibane Renmei, Spirited Away, Millennium Actress, Neon Genesis Evangelion / End of Eva, Castle of Cagliostro, My Neighbor Totoro, Last Exile and GTO.

So then I came to the Anime Recommendations thread, and Silverknight was all like "Ehhh" and I was like "Whateva" Tongue

No I have a good reason, and as I said I don't want to state as to not offend people that did like it. I'm not one to force my opinions on others. Unlike some. Xel knows my reasons.

Def check out anything Miyazaki (did I spell that right?), ok titles then: Sprited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro (but you have to like kiddy stuff), Kiki's Delievery. I've seen all of those. I still have yet to see Castle In the Sky (I checked it out from the library and man...my DVD player sounded REALLY bad because of they put the number strip and that sent it out of balance (and that was the second library I had to explain that to via note...))

Um, yeah...what others have I seen that are not CN:
Escaflowne the movie<I enjoyed that a lot.
Record of Lodoss War OVA <Nice animation and great action.
Serial Experiments Lain <Only if you like mind bending, Matrix-like, computer world ideas....its DEEP and you can't watch it in one sitting.

I would not recomend Sakura Wars. I um... didn't like it. and that's being nice.

Why? I see there is more than one version of Sakura Wars, and I really want to see it. From the preview on the Last Exile Disc I checked out, it looks good...
BTW: What was your opinion on Read or Die? Did you ever see that?

Yeah, I would definetley recomend Read or Die. I haven't seen the TV Series Read or Dream yet, but it doesn't look as good >_< *sadly..*

Sakura Wars... just wasn't my type. It seemed like everyother anime based on a video game. If you've seen any of those, you know what I mean.

Thanks! I'll have to order it the next time I have money and somewhat feel like getting it. Big Grin

I just watched Millennium Actress (is it with two N's? Not sure...). I highly recommend it! The animation is sweet and the transitions are REALLY REALLY AWESOME! So cute, so beautiful.

I only ever saw that one that was on Sci-fi and only part of it (wasn't that bad. Nice fighting...think it was Street Fighters...)... So...maybe I'll enjoy it because with Video games, I live under a rock Big Grin . I'll wait until I can rent/borrow it though.

Recommendations? Meh, depends on what you're into Smile . I could speak from my particular tastes and from my relatively limited angle on anime, but it's ultimatly up to what you personally like Smile .

If you like brooding, complex, psychological things, than I could recommend SEL, Ghost in the Shell and Perfect Blue. Although it's hardly what one can call "brooding", FLCL could be a good choice as well - if you're willing to think long enough about it Smile . Kare Kano is a complex, psychological romance that was for me at least was a serious breath of fresh air to the genre.

A good thing to do would be to see some work that you like, and then catch the name of the major creator/director(s) of the particular work, and go down the line from there. If you like Perfect Blue, than you might want to check out Satoshi Kon's (the creator/director) other works, because they might more or less fall into the same style, even if they are not of the same genre or even the same "type" Smile .

And, of course, Stevie pointed out the other threads of this nature, so they'll no doubt help as well. Happy hunting.

I don't like the way the new characters look. I may give it a chance anyways.

Macross Plus was co-directed by Shinchiro Watanabe and the music was by Yokko Kanno.
I liked Cowboy Bebop lots (TV series. I didn't care for the Bebop movie.) So I enjoyed seeing a lot of the same themes, even if it wasn't quite as awesome as Bebop.

Millenium Actress was beautiful and well-written.

Grave of the Fireflies is a wonderful studio Ghibli, but very, very sad.

Anything by Miyazaki.
  • I own Spirited Away, Kiki, and Totoro...they are my favorites.
  • Princess Mononoke is nifty-awesome. I want a kodama.
  • I liked Castle in the sky mainly for the giant robots...which is a very odd thing, coming from me. Somehow they seem to be 10x more emotive than any of the humans in the movie.
  • Pom Poko was good, but sad. It's like Grave of the Fireflies with care bears. I liked it, but the friend I dragged along to see it beat me with her backpack for making her cry.
  • Castle of Cagliostoro is the best Lupin ever.
  • Whispers of the Heart has absolutely gorgeous backgrounds...photo-like in places. It's a little fluffy, though.

I'm eagerly awaiting the chance to see Nausicaa, Porco Rosso, and Howl. I hope Disney picks up the pace a little.

I honestly think that it depends on what the person likes. Not only that, but they must be able to relate to the storyline or the characters well in order to enjoy the series. Here's a few recommendations that I can think of.

For the person that likes romance shows, I would check out His and Her Circumstances and The World of Narue. Both shows have characters that I can relate to, and also makes a great romance story.

For the person that likes giant robots, The Big O, the Gundam series (any one will do), and Neon Genesis Evangelion are ones to consider. They have a great story along with interesting characters. However, Neon Genesis Evangelion requires you to have an open mind, so be aware of that when watching that series. If you enjoyed that series, I would also check out The End of Evangelion, a rather disturbing conclusion to the series.

For the person that enjoys seeing a bunch of girls with one guy, check out Tenchi Muyo! and Sister Princess. I've enjoyed these harem series because of how the different characters are all able to love one person. Sadly, this doesn't happen in real life, but it's nice to dream, right?

For the person that enjoys thinking beyond the box, Serial Experiments Lain is an excellent series to watch. It is a bit techincal in some moments, but you'll still be able to wonder about a lot of things, even after watching it a number of times.

For the person that enjoys sad stories, I can't think of another series other than AIR. It's quite an excellent series that has great characters, and a great story. It's only available in fansub format right now, so you can see it right away.

For the person that enjoys school life, Azumanga Daioh, Super GALS!, and Cromartie High School are great to watch. Not only do they relate to school life, but also manages to have great comedy at the same time.
