Nooo.. it was a different one.. just a map of NY from above.. just the streets and all, no color/buildings etc. And it pointed where Roger's Mansion would be.. but oh well thanks anyway!!

Man, you know what'd be cool? if someone dropped those Schwarzvald flyers of the Leviathan off the Empire State building or whatnot, than ppl will go "wtf", watch the show, find out what it meant, but most importantly: watch the show. yeah, but i'm definitely sure that's breaking several laws, so i have balaclavas.

We'll just tell 'em William Blake did it.

Well, I figured that since the Yankees are a purely evil entity that ruined baseball for a decade, it'd be only fitting that a killer robot should wear such. Alex Rosewater...George Steinbruner...who is more evil...
Captain Maw 03-31-2005 01:22 AM
a little bit of a digression....

moving on, to answer a questions: yes they translated the French that Sybil spoke "your so sweet" or something, it was on the movie screen. But, i guess German survived the Event so that Roger knew it off the back of his hand (weird).

The language thing was definitely a mistake. It was made early in the series, when the writers hadn't quite worked everything about Paradigm out yet. The important detail is that Dastun said that Seebach is German. But as you are all well aware, nobody has any knowledge of things beyond Paradigm, especially not Germany. So it's just a slip-up.

Early in series + doesn't fit at all with rest of series = mistake
Captain Maw 03-31-2005 02:06 PM
Well, there has to be a world outside of Paradigm, where on earth did those foreigners come from??? paradigm city is just a giant-assed dome with domes in it. the outside world is probably just a wasteland.

As for where the foreigners came from, the series hints pretty heavily that the Union is composed of people who were once residents of Paradigm but were expelled for resisiting the government. Act 10 and Act 25 both say as much.

This is not a mistake. This is more of a strange inconsistency. How do you know Roger doesnt know ANY german? Maybe he has a memory fragment of that langauge. In either case, we need a season 3 to figure this out..
BethMcBeth 03-31-2005 05:24 PM
I still say that Paradigm is a futureistic New Yoek style with a hint of the past in it.

I agree we need a seaon 3 to find out if Roger knows German! lol ^_^""

Well, I didn't say he didn't know German, cuz he obviously does. What I'm saying that the fact that people know of places outside of Paradigm is a HUGE inconsistency. I'm more inclined to think that this was a mistake, like the airship in Act 1.
Generalissimo D 03-31-2005 05:45 PM
That is not an inconsitency. The "accepted fact" is that there is no one outside, but the rejected tomatoes(as well as the ruins from long ago) still thrive. It is truly improbable for Paradigm to have been THE VERY LAST ACTUAL place where humans live...as I have stated in my fic..

*shameless plug*

I know what you're saying, BigOz. But it is inconsistant for Roger and Dastun, who believe the accepted fact that Paradigm is the last inhabited place on earth, to not only know that another country exists, but even know its name and a bit of its language. The people of Paradigm hardly know what's in New Jersey, let alone on the other side of the world.
Generalissimo D 03-31-2005 06:22 PM
Maybe they just DONT notice? Ever have a bad habit that you never notice until someone finally tells you? Its sort of like that to them. And besides, not much else matters to them except life in the present. Unlike schwarzwald....

PS:
To Joe,
You make for a very fascinating argument. Like to thank you for that.

Well, seeing how New Jersey is right across the Hudson, and really really close to New York, people have to know of its existence, unless the entire NJ coastline was blown away.

Not that many people go outside of Paradigm City. Mostly they talk about the wastelands that exist outside of it. Maybe some kind of ruins since somehow the Union found all the parts to Big Fau. So obviously the Union knows a little bit of what is out there and so does Schwarzwald but they have never been very specific on what is out there. Also given that most people in Paradigm don't seem to be all that curious and don't want to leave Paradigm.

All of this could be part of the event, the citizens not wanting to leave. Guessing again.

Or they have something against New Jersey, which would be wrong. Very wrong. Wink
