I finally got my copy of Lupin III: Strange Psychokinetic Strategy.
I was actually a little surprised to find that the movie looked pretty good for it's age, special effects and all. The humor was over the top and very fun, at times it kind of reminded me of David and Jerry Zucker's films (Airplane!, Naked Gun, etc...). I also found a lot of the jokes to be in Monkey Punch's taste and style from the manga, which actually inspired one of the best jokes in the entire movie. To anyone who's read the later Lupin manga; you know those sex symbols that Monkey Punch substitutes for genitalia during the sex scenes? Well, they make a rather glorious return in this film.
Another thing I really loved about it was the inclusion of a few rare scenes from Lupin's childhood. Through a few quick snippets we see Lupin from birth to him growing up in the Catholic orphanage. A good portion of this film is about the Lupin gang and how they first met but most of it just seems to be a bunch of random humor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Pretty much your basic Lupin fare, lots of guns, heists and skirt chasing. So...yeah I enjoyed it.
I also think Discotek did an awesome job on the DVD (subbed only...also not necessarily a bad thing). It came with a few extras like the original theatrical trailer and a really cool booklet packed with a bunch of facts about Lupin and the film. It's a lot better than some
other company currently releasing Lupin movies
*cough*FUNimation*cough*, so I'm really looking forward to their release of Fuma Conspiracy and Legend of the Gold Babylon. Finally, a company that releases awesome old-school anime and does a decent job of it. I can rest easy tonight.

HMM ... recently I have bought Gundam Seed Destiny 1-43, which has proven to be surpassing average, and then Big O season 1 and 2. I haven't bought any anime other than that for awhile - I'm still trying to catch up on some manga series I'm falling behind on - namely NGE. I recently bought the Big O manga series in one go.
