I just bought the Mazinkaiser DVD's.

As one reviewer said, "It's almost like porn for super robot fans."

It's purposely retro as all Go Nagai creations are usually and it has all the depth of an episode of Power Rangers but it's so fun that it doesn't need any deeper meanings that new wave otaku will undoubtedly look for anyway. It just isn't there, it's just giant robot smashing fun and that's all there is to it. It's a throw back to a time when cartoon heroes were invincible and the more giant the giant robot the better.

If you like old school super robots then you're doing a deservice to yourself by not owning these, and if you're a Mazinger Z fan these are simply required because it's practically the same show with new yet retro animation. If you're not a fan of Go Nagai then you'll want to stay away from these DVD's, FAR away.

I'd also recommend Shin Getter Robot which is sort of in the same vein as Mazinkaiser and another Go Nagai creation.

MAAZIIIIIIIN GOOOOOO!

Hell ya man! I have the Mazinkaiser dvd's as well also the Mazinkaiser vs. The General of Darkness movie. This show is awesome, the first few minutes of the first episode wastes no time getting to the mechanical destruction. I have myself just bought the Shin Getter Robo Armageddon pack, so its on its way here.
Change GETTTTTEEEEERRRR!!!!!!

If only Gundam F91 could've been a series instead of a movie. It seems so incomplete. Oh well, it's okay never-the-less and I guess there's more than enough Gundam shows.

I picked up Tokyo Godfathers at Borders last week (got the last copy; how's that for luck?). This is a great movie. I'll go rant about it in another thread, but do watch this film.

I just got my New Getter Robo movies in the mail. Dudes if you have not seen this show, your life is not complete. Gone is the wide-eyed cutesy little girls, lame teen angst story lines, androgynous teenagers, and pascifists. Instead with Getter Robo, you get violence, blood, gore, cursing, and a bit of racism to spice it up if you're lucky enough. Getter Robo, like all Go Nagai robots, requires not one iota of training. Instead, a pilot's true ability in the cockpit is determined only by the strength of his heart and his ability to yell at the top of his lungs, preferably in nonsensical English/Japanese special attacks like "Getta Beaaaaaaaaaaam!!"

New Getter Robo will, right off the bat, strike you as manly. As I described it to my friends, this show is so manly that "after watching it your d*** will grow six inches". This brought about an uproarious laughter in the room, but it's truer than you think. Any women in the room, I'm sorry, but it'll be worth it in the end. New Getter Robo is not a show that wants to waste your time with whiny fourteen year olds who don't want to get into giant robots and kick alien ass. What kind of fourteen year old doesn't want to get into a giant robot and kick alien ass? I want to do it NOW.

There's nothing wrong with an anime that has no deep insights or any plot beyond "Get them!" to speak of. As long as it doesn't showcase breasts bouncing around in a way that makes me feel absolutely dirty then I'm fine with it and the breast:giant freaking monster ratio in this show is so low as to be almost astronomical. The only chick in the entire program is too busy looking perturbed and off-center to do any talking. How manly is that?

When Ryoma, in Getter One, jumps up into the air and throws his arms back while screeching "GETTA TOMAHAWK!!"I get so pumped up I just want to knock my friend down and start kicking him. When people tell you that videogames don't inspire violence, they're right, because it's all contained to shows like this. Shows that are so manly they just make me want to commit violence on my fellow homosapiens. Is there anything wrong with that? No way in hell there is, not where Getter Robo is concerned.
