Recent Anime Purchases

Just bought for myself the last DVD of Hellsing.

I'd already seen it, but I make a point to buy the last DVD of any series I like.

So I watched the Pioneer previews and then it came to something for Strawberry Eggs. Where the main character is voiced by Crispin Freeman. That's fine, except...

I had just finished watching Alucard kick ass in Hellsing and then to hear his voice coming out of...aughhhh!

The juxtaposition of the two characters was more than my poor self could handle. I'm going to go weep now.

::insert semi-sarcastic tone here::

I had an incredibly fun Black Friday yesterday,::end sarcasm:: so while I was at Best Buy replacing my LCD monitor, I decided that I needed to increase my Anime dosage. Strolling down the aisle, I saw that "Please Teacher!" was now in a brick and at a significantly reduced price ($33.99 for 4 DVDs - That's awesome!). Recalling that many had said this was a good series, I quickly snatched it up and came home. I made an agreement with myself that I'd watch the first episode and then go back to watching DS9 (I'm on the 5th episode of Season 6, btw).

I'm currently watching the third disc.

Show is soooooo good! Big Grin Big Grin

Wow, I wish I had DS9.

I have the original DS9, Babylon 5. I'm still a bit angry with the Star Trek guys for copying B5 so blatantly but DS9 did have it's moments.

I bought Dead Leaves at Best Buy. And I'm gonna watch it right after I'm done watching Team Rocket steal christmas Big Grin

I should be getting that this week, if Manga get there rears in gear and release the bloody thing in the UK.

Cant wait to see it thugh, the whole look of it got me intrested and on a side point the English dub has Wendee Lee in it.

Just an update: "Please Teacher!" is soooooooooooooooooooooooo good!!! I can't properly express how much I enjoyed this show and how glad I am to have picked it up!!! Big Grin

My next purchase will most likely be Last Exile, which my wallet is most definitely dreading I assure you.

As for DS9, yes they did blatently rip-off B5, but they did a decent job. The first 4-ish seasons were fairly lame, but when they hit Season 5, it picked up quickly. I'll spare you the conversation I've been having with BabyGhia over why DS9 was so good, though (she didn't like it). Wink

Where'd you hear about it having Wendee Lee?

The girl, Pandy, doesn't sound exactly like Wendee Lee (everything I've seen her in she sounds exactly the same) but after a few minutes of trying to place the voice and general attitude Wendee seemed like the best canidate.

I checked IMDB.com but they've been kinda falling down on the job recently. At the end of it the credits list Pandy's VA as 'Amanda Winn Lee'.

Anywho, I've watched it once and it once. It goes really really fast and while I understand what all's going on the whole 'why the hell did they make this thing' question went completely over my head, so I'm going to give it a few more looks in the next few days. It's a little more violent than what I like but otherwise I like it.

I just bought two Nadesico DVDs... my reaction is pretty positive, but the english VA's aren't very good. I'll post some more comments after I watch it again, but that'll probably be after I finish watching my Seinfeld DVDs.

Well....not much has happend since last time I posted in this thread...other then me getting more manga. No DVDs since I got the second hellsing.....But today....it's not diffrent.....I mean if any of these count....

Inuyasha manga vol. 8 (First edition. Bringing my FE count up to 1-3 and 8-12....I have a big gap there....I need 4-7 still!)

Inuyasha '05 calender (not getting until Christmas >_< ...but when I saw that I was in shock! I didn't think there was an inuyasha calender over here!. Now....if there was a CB and a Saiyuki one here I would be in heaven! Too bad I didn't get that trigun last year ['04] )

I could have added Saiyuki 5 to the list. But alas....when I went to pick up my copy that I had on hold.....the cover was ripped! Or more like somone stood it on the end and something fell on it and split the top of the back cover! So now I have to wait another week for another one to come in because that was the only one they had! What fun Dead .....Oh well it's only a week....
Dork 12-02-2004 05:47 PM
Sorry to hear about your Saiyuki manga. Waiting's hell >_<

In the last week I got in the mail the following volumes of Pokémon:

Vol. 3 The Sisters of Cerulean City
Vol. 6 Seaside Pikachu
Vol. 9 Fashion Victims
Vol. 12 Pikachu Pary
Vol. 11 The Great Race
Vol. 5 ThunderShock
Vol. 14 Jigglypuff Pop

Pokémon Heroes
Pocket Monsters: Celebi: A Timeless Encounter (eng sub)
MewTwo Returns

Vol. 6 Seaside Pikachu has an episode from season one on it that I don't think has ever been shown on KidsWB. I think they must have been againist the 'trying to kill tentacool' thing, or the 'Tentacruel distroying buildings' thing, or the 'Freaky Independance Day-style way the Tentacruel spoke through Meowth' thing ::shudder::. Either way the episode had a real surreal feel about it. I have to say that I have never been as freaked out by Pokémon than when the Tentacruel spoke through Meowth. James with boobs didn't even Freak me out; THAT was just funny. And as soon as I get the money I buying the ep thourgh CDJapan Big Grin

Pokémon Heroes lost a lot of it's charm when dubbed in English, and crappily transferred to fullscreen. I don't know what's wrong with Miramax and every other company that's had the Pokémon movies but their fullscreen transfers suck big time. Didn't help much that the picture was all dark for some funky reason. I'm so selling that DVD.

MewTwo Returns was a very pleasant surprise. It's a made for TV pokémon movie and it's better than the last four pokémon theatrical movies. It was just a lot of fun. It has a new Team Rocket member, Domino. I highly recommend the movie to any fan of Team Rocket in general and Jessie, James, and Meowth.

I just recently purchased a, surprise surprise, a transformer.

More specifically its a japanese, Takara Car Robots, "show accurate", Destron Black Battle Convoy.
Its similar to the amarican Rid Scourge release, save for the pinkish sword and windows and the inverted G2 autobot insignia.

ROTFL! Tells you how often I check this thread! Embarrassed Sweatdrop Yes, I'm not a huge fan of DS9, though to be honest, I didn't really watch it beyond Season 3. *waits for COHugh to try to get her to give the series another chance* Not going to happen... at least not soon. Wink

As for me, my Big O II Boxset is finally on its way... Yippie!

Manga-wise — I just got Trigun Vol 1 & 2 and Trigun Maximum Vol 1 from Amazon.

A couple of weeks I bought Hellsing Vol 2 & 3 and Pet Shop of Horrors Vol 7.

So I'm pretty happy Manga-wise! Been awhile since I've bought any.

Are the first 3 movies (by WB) pan and scan? Cus i have the UK releases of them and they are WS, and so is Pokémon 4ever (only Miramax one released in the UK, and i refuse to get the P&S US ones)

Once i have vol 3 (Tuesday proably) ill make a start on watching them Tongue

edit: damn smilies, every time i type a vol name for AL it turns in to a smilie Roll Eyes

Finally got Dead Leaves.

As usual manga UK have gave us a slipcover with diffrent cover art from the dvdcase it self, but i wasnt expecting a reversible cover with some art i saw on a advert for the OVA.
Dork 12-04-2004 04:05 PM
Congrats on Dead Leaves. If it weren't so violent I'd probably watch it more.

Yeah, the american release Pokémon movies are all pan and scan. I bought the first and second movies R1, than bought the second movie UK edition. Changing the region was easy enough, but I'm still looking at programs that'll convert the movie to NTSC. I'm probably going to buy the japanese language version of the first two movies, which will leave me with three copies of the second movie ^_^ But the japanese language version is wide screen.

When the Deoxys movie comes out I'm just going to get the UK edition, I can at least watch it on my compie, even if I can't convert it to NTSC.

I wouldn't mind the pan and scan so much but the companies that have done the transfer don't even pretend to do a proper transfer. It's like they just cut off the sides, slap the movie on a disk and call it a job.

So annoying.

Some of it was very funny. My favorite part is actually

spoiler (highlight to read):
"Oh my god, it's sucking my ass"

Although it wasn't excessively violent. What bothers me though is that people were getting killed left and right in extremely violent ways and for no reason. That guy who was killed
spoiler (highlight to read):
because he shat too much
was particularly disturbing.
