[Question] ..hmm...maybe another rank?

evanASF27 06-18-2004 12:44 AM
or how about we try to keep thins more simple for Krang and just try to think up 1 new name for the new user group insted of 10 for the ones we already have (I know we don't have exactly 10...I was estimating).

Big O themed user titles. I can't think of any, but maybe if we could think of some, we could use them.

Actually it's begining to sound like we want to give the ENTIRE user group thing a make over. Like "Pimp My Forum!"

Well, I'm just throwing out some neat ideas. Tongue

Guys, slow down with the posting, because it's getting real difficult to organize thoughts right now. Furthermore, we're getting a little carried away here because a new rank hasn't even been confirmed!

If there's going to be a new rank, we agree it'll be around 5,000 posts. Great. Next would be to decide a rank title.
I've already suggested some (Mythic, Mystic, Divine, Preeminant, Supreme, Quintessencial) titles, but final word will be up to Krang...

However, that needs to be decided before we even get around to stars (because that's also dependent on the other rank titles; it might be possible to re-structure the rankings without adding another star).

For example, having five red stars; I know Krang said five stars are resolved for special member groups, but if you have 5,000 posts you can be a part of the special member group if you want; you'd definitely have to be around for the minimum five months to accumulate that many posts, too.

If a new color is necessary, are we going to set it as four (new color) at the 5,000 mark, or are we going to bump everything down, have one (new color) at the 2,500 mark, then a second (new color) at the 5,000 mark?

However, before we even get to that, we kind of need to hear from Krang whether there will even be a 5,000 rank. So cool with the posting, and wait for his word.

---
Again, I'd like to reiterate, please do not reply to this post until we can get an idea of what Krang is thinking...(unless you have an original insight, but thus far there haven't been many of those...)

Yes now that's better :-/ Try to keep it simple people. I suggested that we possibly get 1 new rank above Legendary Member...not change the whole damn thing around. X_X

"Supreme Member" seems to be a good one. "Supreme Member" and the black or the glowing stars would fit nicely together.

*edit*
Alright FP...I'll wait Cool

Ok, here are two new designs I've come up with

Edit: Ok....I don't know what's up with the white in the gif...*goes to fix*

Edit2: Phew, took me a while, but i fixed them, here's them in a row.

Eh, I was playing around with the black star, and I got this choice:

I'm still not exactly sure what to do about the stars, but I have some possible ideas. One would be to have 1 red star at 100 posts, then bump everything else down and have 1 new star at 1000 posts, ending up with 3 new stars for the new rank. The problem with that is mods, admins, and the 5 star groups would all have to be bumped down one also.

Another idea would be to leave everything how it is, but add a new rank for 750 posts, meaning that 1000 posts would have 4 red stars. After that, the new ranks would have the new star color, and 4 new stars could be reserved for 10,000 posts (so that every 4 star rank would be achieved at a multiple of 100).

The last idea would be to move all the ranks up one, so that new members would start with 1 star, 2500 posts would have 1 of the new star color, and the new rank would have 2 new stars.

What does everyone think?

I personally like either the First option or the Second Option. However, what may be good would be if you used the first option, not to bump down the Staff, Mod, Super Mod, and Admin star numbers, so that those groups are more isolated from the forum legends.

However, I'm not a fan of the third option. It seems a bit too messy with the final rank ending at 2 stars whereas the other ranks have 4.

This is my favorite, in my opinion. It works really well, I think.

Either the second or third option works in my opinion.

Ditto over here. Smile

Hey what'ya know post 2001!

I like idea #2 and #3 the best. Which is easier?

#2 would be alot easier, but it would involve coming up with 2 new rank names (one for 750 posts and one for 5000 posts).

Hmmm....

Phenomenal for 750? Superb, amazing, astonishing? Incredible, awesome, excellent?

How about Mythical for 5000?

Deified? Dominus? Megadeus? Director?
X Prime 06-18-2004 03:08 AM
Perhaps Godlike Member for 5000? Dominus of Megadeus?

I favor this one, but I'd be happy with #3 if that's what others preferred.

this sounds ok. I mean whatever works Roll Eyes Plus bumping everything up or down would cause a bit too much mess...
MTN889 06-18-2004 02:08 PM
Damn it... now im gonna be here for 2 years trying to earn the rank...
StevieV019 06-18-2004 02:32 PM
*ahem*

Who cares?? I mean, in the grand scheme of things, what does adding a new rank or whatever accomplish? We already have a special member group for those that choose to join it, and you get your own specialized amount of stars, color, and even customized user tag. The only real benefit that I see is a boosted ego because a user would then be part of an extra super elite group and thus feel superior to everyone else. Now, does that really promote solidarity and community within the forums? I say just keep the ranks/groups the way they are...Besides, number of posts doesnt matter, its quality over quantity, it always has been, and its something that Krang and Shredder have always pointed out and supported. Rewarding number of posts is kind of counterproductive, rewarding QUALITY of posts would be something unique and perhaps original....
Seraphim 06-18-2004 02:39 PM
Well, the only thing I was really pushing hard for was making the custom member group more difficult to obtain. I do think the ranks would make things more interesting, though.
evanASF27 06-18-2004 02:43 PM
well having ranks in the first place doesn't really promote unity and all that. Certainly a rank that is "special" and allows you to have special stars and change your title promotes it even less.

Though I for one understand where you are coming from, the only complaint I have about the ranking we have is that there are a LOT of "Forum Legends" and that we are approaching the next thousand mark. But most people like ranks because "usually" (not in all cases though) they show how long they've been around. Of course there are exceptions.
