Underrated anime huh? I'd say...

Well, every anime has their little cult followings. But I can't really find any good niche communities out there for Samurai Deeper Kyo...so...yeah.

Big O is pretty damn underrated if I do say so myself. Also, Cyborg 009 was AWESOME but I only know one guy who likes it.
Silv3rKnigh1 06-13-2004 03:27 PM
For whatever reson olde rppl tend to liek big O and not so mabny of them watch anime regularly

Of course, I'd have to say Black Jack is underrated. Both the anime and the manga. Guddangit.

This is a severe injustice to both those who do and do not partake upon it! Those who do are too few in number; those who don't are neglecting Tezuka's great legacy. Fie, fie!

Underrated?

I've always thought the manga Alice 19th is underrated. I mean it's so incredible good, and no one's seemed to notice.

Also 'Fruit Baskets' is very underrated. I mean it was called a 'Ranma clone for the 21st century' for godsake! If that's not underrated I don't know what is!

It's a show you have to watch more than once to start to like. After I saw it for the second time, I was like, 'Hey this is cool.'

The manga of Sailor Moon is way under-appreciated. It has pretty the same story as the anime, but it flows better, Usagi is much more mature than in the anime (I like that her role as Sailor Moon and the memories she regains of her past life humbles her), the manga is prettier than the anime, Tuxedo Mask doesn't make those horrible >_< 'motivational speaches', Usagi actually has a measure of fashion sense.

The manga is aimed at an older audience than the anime. You don't have these crappy kiddie 'moral' messages in the manga. The girls are under a lot of stress and the manga's approach to this just better than the anime. It's not pretty at times. At one point Usagi almost hits Chibi-Usa.

Usagi and Mamoru commit suicide twice, Hotaru's father knowingly uses her in an experienment that ultimately leads to her death, Chibi-Usa's love for her Mamoru is addressed more thoroughly.

There's a lot of pain in the Sailor Moon story and the anime tends to gloss over most of it with sappy children's morals. I like the seriousness of the manga . It allows for retrospection.

the biggies...

FATAL FURY TRILOGY, BIG O, Ronin Warriors, ZOIDS CC/GF/0, Fist of the North Star, Gundam 0080, The Striker/Spriggan manga (movie pales in comparison).

Underated: LupinIII! People do not give Lupin the III enough credit! Many characters and scenes in newer animes are based on Lupin characters and sketches! Big Grin People take a look at the Lupin series and immidiately says that it's crap only because it's old, doesn't matter to them that it's extremely fun and has actual plots (individual plots in each episode, though in Auntie Balistic Lupin clearly makes a reference to the curse of King Tut ep).

Unpopular: Pokemon. Because it had SOOOO many episodes shown in such a small time, I think it saturated the market and then just lost its value over a year or so. I still have lots of my cards, I mean hey, who would actually buy them now?

Yeah big o is underated and I don't consider myself an anime person.

Definately Black Jack. The manga was picked up by Viz and then dropped, and I'm still hoping all 10 episodes will be released on DVD, considering not all of them were dubbed. It's a really good series, more people should give it a chance.

I also think Big O is somewhat underrated.
Patsai 06-14-2004 09:28 AM
Big O is very underrated. Pretty much because people these days don't have the patience to watch and try to understand what's going on.

Yeah, it's written off as being 'another lame giant robot show'. You have to stick around for awhile and actually think about it to see the intricacies of the show. It's a fantastic piece of science fiction but not because of the technology but for the questions it brings up using the technology as a sort of middle man. And the character development is mind blowingly subtle.

Big O might not have the visual beauty of Bebop and Wolf's rain but it's just as much a work of art.

defently Lupin people dont understand the story or characters action and my friends think Lupin sucks cause of the terrable Animation and character development. I don't think that Lupin is one of the Best Anime's to come America.
Schoolie 06-14-2004 03:28 PM
I'll say Big O, since it's my personal favorite and not as popular as other series. (Although I am happy it's getting attention from magazines and CN seems to like it.)

As for other underrated anime?

Probably Gundam 0080th MS Team (if a Gundam series can be called "underrated").

Others are series that haven't been on TV yet, like Voices of a Distant Star and Read or Die (the 3-episode OVA).

Also, what can anyone tell me about Full Metal Panic? I've seen previews but no one really talks about it.
Tickle Tickle 06-14-2004 05:02 PM
Big O is somewhat underrated, as Shredder said.

Dirty Pair (every series), it just seems like people don't give a damn about this show.

Gundam 0080, the only really meaniful Gundam series. The others just seem to try to be emotional but fail. Wing was just a gundam series for scary yaoi fangirls, G Gundam was pretty much the DBZ of all gundam series. (although it was pretty fun)

I am still mad at them for cutting the manga. Bleeding *mumble, mumble*. As for the anime, the impression I got is that they will release all ten. At the end of the commentary on the third episode, it said that the commentary would pick up again on the ninth episode on the DVD named Black Jack somethingorother... They gave it a name like they did all the others! That's gotta mean something, right?

Besides, I don't see why they couldn't release all ten episodes when a plethora of insanely bad anime is released each month, every month for the past several years. Sweatdrop I don't know about you, but I get sick of all the stupid soft porn and cookie-cutter crap choking out all the good anime. Like weeds! Bloody weeds! GAH!

Whenever I talk to Every otaku friend I have, they say something about Big O "sucking ass" and being for "babies and homosexuals". Same with Tenchi Muyo, Astro Boy, Gigantor, and Excel Saga .
