Is R. Dorothy "fully functional"?

Captain Maw 03-28-2005 05:15 PM
That would lead to: human children? or android children? or cyborgs? or what?

wow, i wonder if they got a hyphenated name: R.Dorothy Wayneright-Smith or Smith-Wayneright or just as Smith or just as Wayneright.
Shadow dorothy 07-23-2006 09:02 PM
If Dorothy were to have kids they would be human. Lets face it people she is capable cause of all the hints dropped by both her and Roger.

And I wanna see what they didn't show us Crying like between episodes and their love life.
Chitter-Box-Kat 07-23-2006 10:51 PM
Dorothy is "fully-funtional". No doubt. And though I ony have the first three vol's of the manga, I can see the differences between the Roger-Dorothy relationships. Anime = potential lovers. Manga = big bro, little sis. Which is kinda sad... Frown

Anyways, it has been mentioned before that Roger had a big oppertunity to smooch Angel (and maybe more) in the anime and he doesn't. When Dorothy is rendered immobile and for all purposes "dead" in the final episodes, Roger acts like she really died. Like she was human. And I never really noticed until someone at the begining of this thread pointed it out, but Roger never really pays much mind at all to the fact that Dorothy's an android around the seires end.

And if that ain't enough to convince you (it did for me) here's a spoiler for ya:
spoiler (highlight to read):
In the last episode (or second to last, I forget) Roger ends up trapped in Big O's cockpit as he sinks to the bottom of the sea. Dorothy jumps back to life (don't ask me how) and saves him by relasing air from a tank of air. The catcher is that Roger says he would have prefered mouth to mouth. Tongue

Okay, enough out of me. SEE YA!! Big Grin
Shadow dorothy 07-24-2006 12:21 PM
Yeah Roger did ask for mouth to mouth but Dorothy said that it would have been a displacement of her air tank Rogers replie being "oh yeah your difinately Wanyeright's" I want to know why he said that when he already knew.
Robot7290 07-24-2006 01:09 PM
Well, Dorothy became human in the last episode, so if Roger and Dorothy wanted to (in Butthead voice) "get in on", everything would be normal, she would have a kid, in my opinion. Before that, Dorothy was still an android, and as Im sure if she was built to model a human PERFECTLY, she probably had a hoohaw (that was for the kiddos), but it would be nothing, just for decoration, as Dorothy wouldn't have the organs to do anything with anything that came in it. But that raises up another question.

What does Dorothy do with the stuff she eats and drinks? My best guess is that she converts it to extra energy when she is not around an oil can. (as seen in the android asassin episode)
lostmustard 07-24-2006 04:30 PM
I always thought R.Dorothy ate food to make herself appear more human. Didn't she (or Roger...can't remember) say at one point that she didn't need the food?
Robot7290 07-25-2006 12:20 AM
He might of, I'm not sure whether she ingested the food. yaknow she might have, because in the second or third episode she's drinking tea, but when it shows a close up, she barely tilts the cup and I don't think she actually drinks anything. My bad.
Shadow dorothy 07-25-2006 12:41 PM
No, in ep3 she is drinking tea and in ep11(haven day ep) she told the Blind girl that "I don't really need it, I can't taste it."
Back to the kids part, yes she proably does have the parts nessesary parts because her dad won't let her not have them if you get my drift. Sweatdrop

I have to say that I don't agree with this.

Actually, the manga in its own right is good at detailing the fact that Roger and Dorothy are in fact in love with each other (such as the last volume, which does an amazing job on those regards). But compared to the anime, it doesn't do the two's relationship much justice.

And another thing, by this time, that spoiler isn't really a spoiler.
Peace.

I've always considered the question kind of trivial because I doubt that Adult Swim would let Sunrise have a chance to prove that (not even when it still only ran for 17 year olds only) Dorothy is fully functional. Only Gundam Seed can do that - and they can't actually let you see it.

If Dorothy follows the 'mold' of some of the other popular culture books/movie the Big O seems to be based on, she probably is fullly functional.

Well, Dorothy became human in the last episode

Hm? What's your logic on that? Do you mean metaphorically or...?

Dorothy is mechanical. No escaping that (at least not in that ineration of the Event/Reality) ... she did gain an understanding and ability to employ emotion, but she is still a machine.

By and by - Dorothy's Memories were probably assimulated by the Big O (right before she goes to help Norman) and given back to her when she needed them. There is probably some kind of link between Dorothy and the Big O which surpasses distance (like a radio or a TV or something like that)
Big Jauln 07-27-2006 05:15 PM
Well, probably she is. She may be a bit more robotic, but she acts like a human mostly.
Shadow dorothy 07-27-2006 05:44 PM
No doubt she is cause I have the Japanese only comics(not lost memories) but the comics that showed up in Magazine Z in Japan and Us and this shows that Dorothy is not just functional but is also deeply in love with Roger.
Robot7290 07-29-2006 02:55 AM
Ehh... I woudln't poke those mangas with a 10 foot pole. IMO, I accept the mangas to be non-canon. They were not part of the Big O story as we know it to be, and they lack the tru driving force behind the TV series. For all I know, they were just written to look cool and be a comic book, while the Big O was created to be something MUCH greater...
Shadow dorothy 07-29-2006 01:01 PM
No accutaly the mangas were created to show the realtion between Roger and Dorothy. and the Mag z version shows 2 heavens day comics and why Roger and Angel don't get along to well.
Dangerous 08-02-2006 09:03 AM
no she is like CHI in Chobits. She is an android, and "there are things that human can do but androids can't do."
Mattartist 08-02-2006 10:04 AM
(smiles widely) Good lord... I wonder if Dorothy would approve of this... Big Grin

I do believe that although Dorothy is NOT at least FULLY human, she has discovered her feelings, therefore she is a sentient life form, like Data from Star Trek (The Next Generation). Since I view Dorothy very much like a Data persona, I guess I would say Dorothy was fully functional. Big Grin

As for digesting food, I seem to remember that weird scene from AI, where Haley Joel Osment (the robot kid) starts to eat spinach in an eating contest spurred on by his mean "older brother" human. Then his chest plate blows off and spinach gets his internal machinery clogged. Shocked Yeah, that still haunts me.

I dunno, coffee I guess is good for the internal mechanics... Big Grin

And slimming! Smile
Shadow dorothy 08-02-2006 11:54 AM
One episode Dorothy does eat, ep.11 Heavens Day ep. Theres this plate with steak and Corn and stuff and she has a glass of red wine with her.
So she can eat but doesn't need it.
Dangerous 08-03-2006 05:00 AM
Ok, but where does food go ? I mean that Dorothy can eat and drink, but where does food go ? Does she stock her food ? Does she go to the toilet ? Confused I'm afraid ! Neutral
Shadow dorothy 08-03-2006 05:05 PM
How bout we just say that it acts as back up energy and power.
Darkside 08-03-2006 05:44 PM
Only posting to say that Astrogoth's Getter Dragon avatar is sweet. That is all.
Oh and as for a fully functional android. No. That is all.
