Oooh, hey, I've seen some good fanworks though. As long as 13 more episodes come my way, I'm good. ^_^

We're not talking about the same people. The odds that the people who create the show are also the ones who decide whether it's worth funding a corporate Web site are zero.

The Web site is gonna be run basically by P.R. flunkies who are harrassed from morning till night by demands to whip up support for the newest shows. Supporting secondary products like manga and DVD's will end up being something they do in the non-existent gaps between their high-priority activities.

True, P.R. flunkies are paid to sound wildly excited about everything they're paid to sound excited about, so when they do something like closing a Web site, it sounds harsh and out of character. But P.R. activities are a crummy window into the world of the corporation they're spinning lies and illusions for. All we can be sure of is that Sunrise feels that the Big O web site isn't profitable. (Which isn't surprising, since it's not selling anything directly.)

The animators, of course, animate whatever shows they're paid to animate. It's clear from the high quality of Big O that they lavished both care and money on the show. They can't be completely sick of it after only 26 episodes. Compare what they've done to, say, what it must have been like to animate season after season of THE SMURFS, or to remake the same SCOOBY-DOO episode a hundred times without anyone noticing.

Hummm... I see what you're saying Shredder, but what if the artwork style is nearly identical (or identical), they use the same english voice actors, and they use Chiaki J. Konaka to write it (and to be head wrangler over any other writers)? Of course, if there is one single person I would defer judgement on Season 3 to, it would be Konaka. I guess the real question is, does Konaka want another season?

Yes, that is the question.

::looks at ACT::

Anywho, I heard that along with season two Cartoon Network recieved the option to renew for another 26 episodes. If Konaka new knew about this offer when he was making season two and didn't want there to be one wouldn't he have done something like put 'The End' on the last episode instead of 'We have come to terms'. You know, something to say 'the show's over folks. Go home!'.

I dunno. I want a season three. I need to write e-mails/letters/whatever to adult swim. . .

I see your point, sorry mine was a little unclear. I know that the writers and animators aren't running the site, but my comment more that whoever was running it must have had permission from Sunrise (as you said) to close it. If Sunrise was planning a third season, why (agree to) shut it down now? Now would be the time for the planning stages of a third season, before the series is too far from the public's mind. I'm just disappointed is all, considering I'm a big fan of the series and honestly was disappointed by the (what may be the final) ending.
Mr. Fortnight 04-19-2004 03:14 AM
My theory is perhaps they're closing that site down because (since it's a Japanese Site) it just wasn't pulling in the hits. Big O is huge in North America, and I think Europe is flipping out for it too. It's just Japan where it didn't click. So, they're letting the US lead the way in fan-sites/news sites.

I wouldn't call this the final word on The Big O.
Dork 04-19-2004 10:01 AM
It's no wonder that Big O doesn't do very well in Japan. The show is set in New York City, all the street signs, newspapers, book covers, etc. are in english, the protagionist has shown that he doesn't know a lick of japanese, and the only japanese people ever shown were semi-negative japanese sterotypes.

@_@

tis freaky.

I'm glad to hear it's doing well in Europe. England's just now getting the episodes. I hope they like them. The English seem like a very smart people when it comes to TV.

Now I know someone mentioned this before, but I visited the Big O site which has closed down. However there's a message left which I put in Alta Vista Transaltor:

This sight ended release. Utilization thank you.

Does this mean, it won't come back?
Dork 05-08-2004 11:01 AM
I don't know. I think Zola's suggested that maybe Sunrise wants to use the address for an english Big O site. Which makes some sense, seeing as though Big O's making more money in english than in japanese.

I don't think it's time to panic yet. If Big O comes back onto to the adult swim line-up un-accompanied by new episodes then it might be time to panic.

They already have an English site.

http://www.paradigmcity.com/

There's just nothing there but a trailer.
Dork 05-08-2004 11:12 AM
Yeah, but it's a really crappy site that's run by Bandai.

The Offical Japanese website was far cooler and had a lot of interesting information about what products were availiable and character bios, etc.

Plus The-Big-O.net is a far better address than paradigmcity.com.

I'm still wondering about this site, which seems to constantly be in a state of construction, or 'destruction', as they put it:

That site is just web space. Different people own different parts. I hear the only still active part is some hentai page deep within it, but from that home page I see no links *shrug*.

lol
Hey the title of the "last" episode was The Show Must Go On!
That should tell you something.
