Casshern - Japan's most promising movie?

Patsai 03-21-2004 02:10 AM
I know it's a Japanese movie and all, but this movie looks VERY promising.

It's kind of like the Matrix with a bit of Ninja Gaiden, Lord of the Rings, and Final Fantasy 7 thrown in. I WANT to see this movie SO bad. Words cannot express how much I need to. I hope there's an English version out when it does come out.

Apparently, the movie is based on an old 35-episode anime called Casshan: Robot Hunter.

Here's the trailer.

Eh...well, it is cool indeed, but I don't see it being released here in the U.S.

*update #1*

I now have obtain information about the movie's plot from the Casshern website:

quote:

An alternate world with an alternate history.

The entire planet was divided between two opposing alliances.
After fifty years of bitter warfare,
the Greater Eastern Federation triumphs over
the forces of Europa and gains dominion over the Eurasian continent.

However, this is an empty victory.

Years of chemical, biological and nuclear war have poisoned the land and
left an exhausted population at the mercy of every pestilence and newly-mutated disease.

It seems that there's little hope for humanity's future.
Debate rages over the chances of finding some way to stave off
the seemingly-inevitable decline of civilization.

One man comes forward with a possible solution.
Dr. Azuma is a geneticist who proposes a "neo-cell" treatment that
can rejuvenate the body and regenerate humankind.
He's driven in his studies by a desire to save his beloved wife, Midori,
from the ravages of pollution-related disease.

He appeals for funding to the government
but the politicians in the Health Ministry turn him down,
fearing that the new technology will threaten their entrenched powers.

However, a sinister faction in the powerful military makes
a secret offer to provide the support he needs to further his research.

When an incident occurs in the lab that sends
the Professor's "neo-cell" cloning experiment haywire,
a race of mutant human beings (Shinzo Ningen) is unleashed upon the world.

Instead of being the savior of mankind,
the Professor's miraculous technology looks set to threaten its very existence...

This movie is set to release in Japan April 24th.

I will keep this thread updated with info for as long as possible.

Maybe we can finaly get a Japanese live action thing when it does not look like crap. Even my favoraite japanese live action, the boogiepop movie, suffered severe suckines in the visual area. Even the Kamen Rider Faiz that I belive was Toei's cash horse seems to suffer the same problem.

It looks like some kind of mix between Sentai shows, Samurai Jack, and Final Fantasy. Red Face

(Oh, BTW, IT LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME!!! Drooling As if I don't think those are good points. Roll Eyes Pleased )

Well, I take back what I said about it not being released here in the US. In fact, a worldwide release is underway for this movie. So happy!

[Head explodes] ..wow, that was pretty awesome. I loved how it seemed to mix both steampunk and cyberpunk elements together. Hopefully I'll be able to see it sometime in the future..

Holy...crap.

It's a live action anime movie that...doesn't suck!

At least it looks that way from the trailer.

I must see this....Even if I have to learn Japanese in a month...
Tifaria 03-23-2004 07:22 PM
Awesome! Someone had passed the trailer on to me last week, but I had no idea what it was for or about. Now it's even cooler. Big Grin I'll definitely have to find some way of seeing that.

Looks boring to me. Nothing really new in that preview, and Japanese always sounds stupid to me when spoken that seriously. I think it will be like Daredevil crossed over with Matrix: Reloaded....

I don't know. It COULD be like that, but you have to remember that they didn't pull a story out of their asses to make this, so I'm guessing it won't be as boring as you say it is. The only way to tell is to see the movie.

Update #2 will be here shortly! Big Grin

Just wanted to mention that there is apparently a Casshern microman figure coming out!! (Microman is the grand-daddy of Transformers with the newest form having cool super-poseable figures both original and lisecenced!)

Action-HQ.com has a pre-order up. (I personally do not recommend AHQ however. Instead go ogle at its awesomeness.)

well now this is an old thread. Alas the movie is to be relased in the U.S. and i think many of the newcomers to this forums should know about this amazing movie.

IMDB

and here is the main site, it branches of into a Japanese and English site.

Curiously enough it seems as though a branch of dreamworks will releasing the Movie in the U.S.

The trailer for the mocie was posted by patsai in the first post of this thread.

I'm now incredibly wary of this.
