Username Changes

As you can see, I changed my sig to go with my new name.

Can I go back to Jonny Axehandle?

Say Krang... I don't understand why you don't just install a quick mod to do Username changes for us. I made one that does it with a screen like the email changer... Want it?

I think I remember answering this question earlier, although I don't remember where. There are several reasons why I don't want to allow people to change their own usernames:

1. It causes alot of stress on the database to change usernames. If a bunch of people changed them at once, it could cause major server problems...
   
2. One of the main reasons for the 4 month rule is so that name changes don't cause confusion. If people could change their names at will, it would end up confusing alot of people, not to mention making a mess of things like PMs and quotes where usernames are hard-coded into the posts.
   
3. I have to make sure the names are acceptable. If people are allowed to change their own names, they could change them to something offensive or use them to mimic another member. Then, they could quickly change them back before a mod or admin notices, but after the "damage" is done.
   

As you can see, I have already considered the possibility, and I think things work better the way they are.

Dear Krang,
I wish to have my username changed in lieu of a recent epiphany:
- it has my name in it, too personal, and it's slightly annoying on my personal security level
- doesn't look that good, and also, when you say it, doesn't sound well
- i wish to change it to a better name, the one i go by in online gaming, so it's more appropriate i use it on an online forum.

I wish to thank you on my recent username change. i was somewhat skeptical since i am relatively new here, but you were able to change it regardless of what hurdles lay in your path. i would like to formally thank Krang, our administrator for the gifts he hath lay upon thee. To Krang!
