Lt. Smith: Another very fine animated gif (from One Piece, I might add)!

The animation is a little more fluid than Mr. Saturn's (at least, until the last few frames of the avatar).

It's also another high quality avatar, and though the black pants are too solid, the other colors are more varied, so it doesn't matter much. I will say that the lighter shades in the hair are done pretty bad (in my opinion) in the last frames in the avatar.

Once again, we have a transparent background utilized to its fullest. In terms of size, I have the same comment that I gave Mr. Saturn: though it is small, I think it works very well; the reason why it does is probably because of the transparent backround. With other small avatars, the background (at least, in regards to "portrait" avatars) seems to overwhelm the central image. Or, even worse, the two sometimes blend together it in lower quality avatars. In this case, it isn't an issue.

Overall, I think it's another great avatar.

Just a note on my rating system: though the overall rating isn't a traditional mean, I have been using a weighted formula. Currently, the base formula is

(Clarity x 2) + (Originality x 2) + (Color x 0.5) + (Emotion x 0.25) + (Personality x 0.25) + (Stature x 0.5)
___________________________________________________________________________

5.5

If the remainder is less than 5, I round down; if greater than 5, I round up. I then add or subtract the appropriate points from the Technical and Size categories.

However, I intend to start droping the emotion statistic, since it really only applies to specific avatars; I think it's unfair to evaluate all avatars on that attribute. When I do drop it, the equation will probably look like this:

(Clarity x 2) + (Originality x 1.5) + (Color x 0.25) + (Personality x 0.25) + (Stature x 0.5)
___________________________________________________________________________

4.5

In which case I will keep the remainder, combine the appropriate technical and size points, and give the overall score.

---
Note 2: if you see my previous ratings for other avatars go up, it's because I was using a flawed formula before which made the max score a 9.1 instead of a 10 (dividing by 6 instead of 5.5). Most of my previous ratings have, as a result, gone up one full point.

What do you guys think of my Dark Side of the Moon avatar?

It cycles through the 1973, 1993, and 2003 versions.

Mr. Saturn: It's cute. It loops well. 9/10.

It is a pretty plane, it loops well, which matters a lot to myself, which is why I rate your avatar a nine out of ten.
Septuo 05-31-2004 06:52 PM
I like the plane. 9/10 here to

Were I to have seen The Prince of Tennis, I may be able to rate yours higher, Fuji. But seeing as how I have not, I will give a an 8/10 for creativity. That, plus I like the artwork of the anime, from what you show anyway.

Septuo: Not a terrible avatar, but the quality hurts it a lot. For one, the avatar is too small: it really makes the details that much harder to perceive. The grain in the background doesn't help much, either; it sspoils which really should have been a much smoother, more appealing background.

Otherwise, there aren't too many FLCL avatars around, and this would make a good one if it were bigger (it's only 80x80!) and a lot cleaner.

It's an OK avatar, but I have no idea what's in it. The colors are OK, though.
