okay, guys, how did the final version come out? Smile

Pretty good Zola! Although, I'd prefer it if you zoomed slightly out so that the corners of your eyes are more visible. Other than that, it's A-OK!

Well, I had this dilemma...

If I showed more of the eye, you couldn't read the number. If you couldn't read the number, you couldn't look it up here.

So that was my compromise Smile

C.R Foxhound: Well, since you asked, I'll gladly critique your avatar. Big Grin Now then, let's get to work...

The picture itself isn't too bad...there isn't much grain (so it's fairly high quality), but...its hard to focus on. I think that's due to the lighting (which isn't too bad; it doesn't add or subtract anything from the avatar, in my opinion). Actually, now that I take a good look at it, there is a little grain (most noticably, around its face)...that might have to do with it. The color conflict (between wolf and background) also doesn't help any...

The background kind of fades away from the viewer; clearly it isn't meant to be the centerpiece of the avatar. Tongue It's a nice detail (the spires, I mean)...though at first glance they are very easy to miss (what with all the blending and fading).

Overall, it's a good avatar...it isn't anything spectacular, but it's solid. I'll rate it 8.5/10 (85/100).

Alright I read through the first few pages or so, and I'm supposed to rate the person's above me right? Forgive me, but I don't really have the patience to read 40 pages I'm SORRY! So I don't know who has arlready been rated before...If anyone wants their's rated just ask.

Anyway, I know mine is nothing special or flashy, but is it alright atleast?

I apologize for the misunderstanding, well Phoenix I'll rate yours then.

It appears to be high quality, nice and clear, (not blurry or squished or anything) so that's good. While I don't know the character, I've always been a sucker for cute anime girls. On a scale.. I'd give it about 9. GOOD JOB!!! Big Grin

You only need to rate the avatar of the poster immediately prior to you, so if you wanted to edit your post, you could rate The Fallen Phoenix's avatar.

Yours is unique, with I appreciate. It's not Big O related and I don't recognize the character or setting, so it doesn't speak to me particularly. I'd give it a solid 8 of 10, because I like to see someone going to a little effort to get a unique avatar.

That would be Vicous from Cowboy Bebop.
FP: For the love of Mike please dont use that fancy text-script thing font when leaveing a review for a person, it is very difficult to read and therefore hard to understand what you are trying to say.

Wingnut: Ah, a Gundam! And a very good one, too...picture's clear, no problems with the quality...

The transparency is fine, and the outline of the mobile suit is perfect. Smile Of course, you have the cut offs on the sides and around the bottom, but it can't be helped...

All in all, a very nice avatar! I'll rate it a 9.1/10 (91/100).

Aie, I'll agree with that, the problem is the computer I'm using, its hard for me to use photoshop with any computer but my own, its just so much easier if I've got my computer Crying

Wingnut: Its a nice avatar, and I must say it looks very good for a transperant one. Its of high quality and its well deserving 4/5 Big Grin

Pygmalion: This avatar does posses an average uploading quality, and normal detail, but its just not outstanding. The colors don't jump out, and while the scene is good, I don't recognize whats happening. I think it earns an average 3/5

Xithos Your avatar is good, but it could use a slight bit of retouching. It looks good, but the sword is incredibly hard to see and it just kinda clouds the rest of the image, its as if you were focusing on 2 things, when you should focus more on viscous' face. I'd give it a 3/5, but with a slight bit of tailoring it could easily earn a 4/5.

:EDIT:

Whoops Pheonix snuck a post in there on me Big Grin

Pheonix: Your avatar has very good color (I miss Tucan Sam's color Crying ). It looks pretty good, good quality, and the picture is focused well. The brightness of the hair can vouch for its coloring ability. The only slight thing is the lower face where the face color seems to leak out just a bit onto the background. I'd give an excellent 5/5 though, Good Job!

I made it by putting together (re-sizing of course) various pics using a digital photo editor. I like making custom pics and Neopets.com Userlookup backgrounds. I think I could do better if I had Paint Shop Pro or something like that, though. I just wanna know if you think I did a good job. ^__^
seraphjei 02-21-2004 07:22 PM
hmmm its actually pretty good Big Grin

This could probably go in the "Rate the Avatar" thread...but it doesn't really matter. I'll critique it anyway. Smile

I think it's a nice avatar. Smile The editing was done fairly well, I think...which program did you use (since you say you didn't use Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, or any other equivalent...)?

I only just noticed that the border was actually composed of faces of Big O...I think that was a nice touch! Big Grin

Admitedly, you did lose some quality in the pictures due to the resizing, but that is usually unavoidable...though it is fortunate that rather than appearing in the form of grain or other horrible things, the only real loss is detail...

As aforementioned, I think it's a nice avatar...one of the better custom ones I've seen. Big Grin I'd rate it an 8.2/10 (82/100).

OOH OOH
I have new one: See Below
It's the full version of the one you see in my current avatar.
It's too big to be an avatar, but since I drew it and it's part of my collection I figured I'd post it.

Rate without mercy....
Prons 02-22-2004 03:18 AM
8.5\10 I added a .5 sense its nice to see you made it yourself.

Mine is simple Amuro Rei, I like to think the expression repersents not only how I feel most of the day, but how I bet other people think I feel when they read my posts. My avatar on the seraphim mfl backup arena 0wnz0ars though.
A Clockwork Tomato 02-22-2004 09:53 AM
Not sure how to rate Prons' avatar, as I don't recognize the character and don't know whether he's heavily freckled or whether this is poor dithering on the part of a paint program.

I submit my new avatar to an uncaring world. It's derived from one of my altered screen shots in the RETOUCHED IMAGES thread in Nightengale.
The Fallen Phoenix 02-22-2004 12:07 PM
A Clockwork Tomato: Not a bad avatar. Unfortunately, the quality is lacking; true, this is going to come as a result of the resize (and the original image), but it does subtract from the avatar in this case. Their expressions can't be read because most of their facial features blend in with the face. The colors (or lack thereof) also cause some blending; such as the blending of the bar (which stretches across the avatar) into their clothes (or lack thereof Wink ).

Overall, it isn't bad, but the poor (well, it isn't the worst but it is far from the best) quality really takes away from the avatar, I think...

Of course, it is also important to note that all of these quality problems are really a result of the original image itself, so you really can't do much to fix them...

All things considered, it isn't a bad avatar...I'll rate it a 7.7/10 (77/100), since a lot of the quality problems just can't be helped...
Manji 02-22-2004 08:20 PM
Pheonix: The STNJ would be proud Big Grin Your avatar is very good, I like the effects. Its clear, and the picture of Robin is good. I'd give it a very high 4/5!
The Fallen Phoenix 02-23-2004 06:56 PM
Manji: Personally, I liked the Kool-Aid Man avatar better... Frown Tongue This one is fairly good, too.

Good use of transparency, and I think the border of the circle blends in very well with the background...though the right side seems kind of choppy and isn't really much of a circle...

Lighting probably would have been good if there were a background; I think it's kind of ineffective here since it doesn't really do much to help or hurt the avatar.

Quality is pretty good, and I like the use of the sign. Big Grin

Overall it's a pretty good avatar, though I still liked the Kool-Aid Man one a little more... Roll Eyes Still, I suppose this avatar gets an 8.4/10 (84/100).

Note: this was concerning the Cactaur avatar.

Phoenix: Well, I haven't seen Witch Hunter Robin, so I don't know how to compare it, but your avatar looks pretty good. I give it a 8.5/10. It's worthy of a 9, but I'm not too big on anime mugshots myself.

Haven't seen Witch Hunter Robin? That's a shame...I think you're missing out, but that's my opinion...Smile

As for comparison of my avatar with show quality...I actually faded the colors and made the background murky. It also has a sinking quality...I tried to keep the focus not only on Robin's face, but also on the mood of the avatar itself...It's certainly not meant to be taken as an upbeat image...

I also think it's a nice effect, but that's my own opinion. Wink

Now, to rate your avatar...it is a good gif. The animation is flawless, and the avatar is clear. However, it is small...the actual gif takes up maybe one third of the avatar. I'm kind of torn because I usuall don't like plain white backgrounds, but I have to admit it kind of works here...

Not the biggest fan of the style (stick figures...bleh Tongue ), but the quality is good, so it deserves an 8.0/10 (80/100).
