Who do you think Kenshin Really loves?

Gestmaniac 02-27-2004 06:42 PM
Kamiya Kaoru
Ok, so We all know Kaoru, right? Kenshin hardly gives any signal that he 'Loves' her. Kenshin is willing to protect her, but the also promised that to Tomoe. But in the end

Kenshin and Kaoru end up having a baby named Kenji. They later show how Kenji grew up in the OVA and manga
for some odd reson I don't think that they will ever show that in Rurouni Kenshin series, they have already gotten to the last episode, trust me it wasnt the best. But Kenshin and Kaoru still

Had Kenji
. Does that mean he loves Kaoru(well he technicaly does, if he didn't that be sick Shocked DEAR GOD) Althought the OVA series shows the VERY begining and VERY end and the Series shows only the middle, AFTER Keshin started wandering. Be cause technicaly he meets Kaoru in the OVA, but they skip all that Shishio stuff. But I don't think in the series Kaoru has

a kid.
Even the manga starts like the anime and some where in the last 1/4 of the book the go to kesnhin's past and how he was a manslayer, and the whole Enshi fight. Enshi wasnt even in the series.

Yukishiro Tomoe
Kenshin's
spoiler (highlight to read):
first love, a wife-ish, ya know. Tomoe was originally engaged to Kiyosato, a childhood friend. Both of them were really happy about the engagement, but then Kenshin killed Kiyosato as one of his jobs. Due to his strong will to live, Kiyosato cut Kenshin's cheek with his sword before dying. Because Tomoe never showed her happiness about the engagement, she felt that she didn't deserve that happiness. She left home after Kiyosato's death with the idea of killing Kenshin. Kenshin and Tomoe first met when she saw Kenshin killing this dude. Her first words to him were, "You truthfuly are responsible for the rain of blood." She then Passed out and Kenshin took her to the cabin. When Tomoe woke up, she said that she was drunk. Later when the Ishin Shishi was in danger, Tomoe and Kenshin disguised themselves as husband and wife who sold medicines to hide. As they lived together, they fell in love. Tomoe felt that the man who took away her happiness had also given her another one. When Kenshin was fighting Tatsumi, Tomoe threw herself between the 2 to save Kenshin, and he ended up killing both of them. Before she died, she scratched the other scar on Kenshin's cheek with her knife. And with the Quote "Tomoe, now that I've lost you, I finally understand your suffering. You endured much. You protected and saved me. You suffered pain and hatred, but, now there's no need for you to suffer any longer. I must take responsibility for your suffering for the rest of my life... I must find atonement for those that died for me and those I killed. I'll be ok. I'll never forget how you taught me about human warmth. I must separate from you for now, but, we will be together again."

Sorry that was so long, but who does Kenshin really love you think?

I vote TOMOE!!! Cause, she was his first love! Kaoru is afraid of death or being alone, Tomoe accepts Death

Prehaps he does love Kaoru but doesn't know how to tell her.

Why is this even a poll? He loved both of them.

Kenshins emotions are stagnant because of his near inability to express them... part of being a manslayer.

He openly admitted to Tomoe that because of her, he could invision a life without the sword. A life where he wasnt a manslayer - he could see himself happy with her being nothing more than a farmer. He loved Tomoe first for exposing him to life and then once over again in appreciation of her suffering. Tomoe not only stopped Kenshin's manslaying, but made him a better person. He saved hundreds of lives to keep a promise to her.

Kenshin loved Kaoru for her entire being. He appreciated not only her ideals, but her hospitible nature. He was drawn to her like a soulmate. He failed to express his love before the final OVA's because he was scared and worried for her safety. Such as in mastering the Amakakeru Ryo No Hirameki where he learned that he had to continue living, he also had to continue loving. When Kenshin comes to save Kaoru from Enshi she says, "There is no hesitation in his sword." Here, she realized he truly loved her from the bottom of his heart. Although he had saved her before, the way he spoke was confidence from love. Furthermore, Kaoru wanted to share Kenshin's pain... and he allowed this. Through the love and the appreciation of his wife, he shared this deep suffering with her. He held off death to keep a promise to her.

Do you think Kenshin would have allowed Tomoe to die if he had the choice? HELL NO - he would have died and let her live.

The point is - he loved them both equally. His love for Kaoru was epic and seemingly destined, whereas his love for Tomoe was more of a turning point in his life in the becomming of his persona.

The last episode will determine who Kenshin REALLY loves.

i'd hav 2 say Karou. i've never seen tomoe. Confused

I think that he loved them both equally but his feeling with Kaoru near the end were much clearer, because he didn't have to deal with being a manslayer.

His current love is Kaoru she is the woman who he was able to express his true love to. Even though his relationship with Tomoe was just as sincere even if cut brief (pardon the pun).

Well...he loved/loves them both...its obvious....so, that kinda takes the point of this poll out of it. Who does he love...well, the answer is both.

I think Tomoe had/has a more lasting effect or had more of an influence in his life. At the time that he loved/loves her, he is still a young adult; someone who is almost immune to what he does, absent from life. He hasnt fully developed as a person...at that point in his life, he has only seen death and is unemotional and detached from life and the world. Tomoe awakens a person inside of Kenshin...makes him feel alive and have a connection to something special, and helps complete who he is. The events that occurred throughout his "love story" with Tomoe shaped Kenshin into who he is in Rurouni Kenshin: Wandering Samurai. Yes, he loves and cares for Kaoru...but without Tomoe, he would never know what love is or what he felt/feels for Kaoru. Tomoe awakened him, and thus is his "true" love....

Exactly! Couldn't have said it better. Tomoe made Kenshin open to love and Kaoru reaped the benefits. Poor Tomoe!

I covered most of this in my first post. But I don't know, Kenshin said he would protect Kaoru and Tomoe, but Kenshin did kill her Fiancee and she said that he gave her happyness, and Kenshin gave her another one. But i don't think that kaoru would ever give up her life.
