Hi, I'm Dork. I don't really like that screenname so much, but I've been using it for about a year on another forum and it seems to fit me.
I have been watching Big O for a week (give or take a couple days) and somehow in that time I've managed to buy 80 dollars worth of Big O merchandise (to be fair 30 of that can be attributed to this incredible desire I get to buy DVDs). I'm usually much more careful with my money, but Big O's just so cool. My least favorite part is the giant robots, but after a week they're starting to grow on me.
My two favorite genres of all time are Film Noir (hmm, venetian blinds. . .) and science fiction so I'm not really surprised I like this show. Well, that and I love twisted relationships. And Roger and Dorothy seem to have a pretty twisted relationship
I posted a topic at a Farscape board I go to and told them all about Big O. And for some odd reason they think I have good tatse, so I think I may have a few converts already.
I've been lurking for a few days and this looks like a really cool board. Can't wait to get to know everyone better!

Hi, Dork! (I feel like I"m insulting you, even though that's your screen name.

)
Yeah, I got addicted to Big O after only about three episodes. The whole "Geez, it's so similar to Batman: The Animated Series" really got me (God, I loved that show--it was so dark). But I can't say I went out and bought 80 dollars worth of stuff.

Mainly because I am a self-titled "poor college student."
But if I'd
had the money, you know I would have!
Anyway, welcome! Hope to see you around!

Funny, the giant robots are what first captured my attention to the series, everything else good about it hooked me a bit later. Of course being a Gundam freak it is reallt no suprise. I notice you are female, thus the standard warning oges out to you concerning the member known as R.Smith.
He is also known as the :digital pimp" of these forums and will make every effort to charm you into becomeing one of his leigons of fangirls. Do not fall for it! Other than that we are all mostly harmless, unless we are angered for some reason, which doesn't happen often.

Oh yeah, you'll fit right in. ^___^ Welcome!
Thanks, Kat
I actually lost my sanity in high school. Something about going to school with a thousand other artists will really screw you up something nice.

Yes. That's my little problem with the show. Glad I'm not the only one. And by the way your screenname isn't any worse than mine.
Enjoy your stay. It's lotsa crazy fun here. And about your "one-week record..." Trust me, that's a record I've already broken.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, I have to come up with a catchy way to end my posts. Maybe...

Or...

I'll just have to figure it out. And about losing sanity...high school sucks.

Oo. . . I like you!
I've been using this screenname on another board for about a year, everyone else has gotten used to it but I've noticed that the newbies will not address me directly. lol! Plus, they all thought I was a 16-year-old nerdy boy geek at first, which was fun. Excessive comments about the hot-ness factor of certain Babylon 5 guys has pretty much eliminated the 'Is Dork a guy?' question.
Another reason I went with the screenname on this board is because this little bit:
'muchlove
-Dork'
just rolls off my fingers.
I also like Big O because of the story arch. I'm in love with Babylon 5 and it's wicked cool story arch, it's so hard to find science fiction with compelling characters and nice and complicated story arch. So I'm very happy to have found Big O.
Anywho,
muchlove

LOL, those are pretty funny.
Actually I loved my high school. Well, as much as anyone can love school. Every student attending the school had to audition for one of the art areas to get in. It was civilized. When I was going there we hadn't had a fight at the school in eight years. And the last fight had been between two lunch ladies. When one of my friends asked 'Do you think I'm weird?', 'no' was not the correct responce.
In the creative writing department every one knew who everyone else didn't like. But we'd never actually tell each other we didn't like each other. When you backtalked someone you looked behind you to make sure they or their friends weren't standing anywhere nearby and even then you'd whisper all your compliants. Very fun. I kinda miss it.
much love

Hi ya Dork!!
Welcome to the city...look up and uh...do you want my pencil sharpener as a newbie present? It's acutally broken, but, if you can find the right way to hold the pencil when you insert it in, it'll sharpen like nothing else.
I haven't tested it with crayons...but I suppose you can do that.
Bye!

I hope you'll enjoy your time here, and hopefully, this site will be able to fill your need for expression of Big O fandom whenever you need it--and thus, saving you thousands upon thousands of dollars of money spent on impulse purchases for Big O merchandise over the course of the first couple of weeks. I can vouch for that; I just got involved in Paradigm City, too, and thankfully, they won't let me leave.
Enjoy the domes, where the sun is always shining on the guy next to you!
I've had lots of fun here today.
I've spoiled pretty much the entire series for myself today. ::sigh:: thus is the life of the spoiler junkie

Welcome Dork to the city of amnesia!
See these people got into big o the way I got into it. Becuase I never was an anime person. The noir//general dark style got me into big o. With the cool old new york look, its always cloudy, the jazz, etc.
Plus big o looked like giant robot I'd seen before.

Yes, in fact, I am here to give you a gift of defense. A sweaty gym sock. You can use it on the digi-pimp. It will keep him at bay!
Anyway, as long as you watch out for R.Smith, you'll be fine...

Not a big robot fan either...but I will say that even the robot designs here seem to be a notch above...yay Art Deco!
You mentioned you were looking for SF...I highly recommend 'To Say Nothing of the Dog' by Connie Willis.
It's about a time-traveler who is trying to get by in the Victorian era on implanted memories. In the original short story he's very much like Roger (he even has blackouts when the memories surface unexpectedly). And his sidekick Verity, while not quite on Dorothy's level of snarkiness, is about as sharp-tongued as she feels she can reasonably get away with at the time and starts out the book by threatening the whole of causality to rescue a cat she is fond of.

Hi and welcome! I'll admit, the robots aren't my favorite thing either. I'm much more interested in the characters and their interactions with each other.. although the Bigs and the other giant robots have certainly grown on me.
Not to get on too much of a tangent here, but your high school sounds like it was a lot of fun! I wish I could've gone to an art-oriented school. My first high school's art teacher was.. not a good teacher. She was scatterbrained and forgetful and not helpful at all. She wanted everything done her way instead of encouraging creativity. My second high school had pretty much no budget for art. Heck, this whole town really doesn't care about art very much at all.
Anyway, you seem like a really cool person and I hope you enjoy it here!
