-Furi-Kuri (Furi-Kura)= A referance to Magical Girl anime. When Magical Girls twirl thier rod and say thier catch phrase, things get sparkly and they turn into the heroine. Haruko's phrase happens to be the title of the last episode.

-Kuri= A homonym for a twisting noise and "Chestnut". Kamon says, "Like twisting..." but Haruko hears, "Like chestnuts...".

-Kuri-Kuri= When you open your eyes really wide and spin your eyeballs in your head.

But heres the biggest question, What the Hell does FLCL mean!???

Well heres an answer to that.

FLCL can be an acronym for any of the following things, all of them were in the show but they were very easy to miss even if your watching for them.

-Flip Clock, which is a cheap clock, or an example of when alterations are only useful in terms of looks and aesthetic value.

-Foolish Cleverness, or one who looks smart but acts stupidly. Shallow thinking.

-Flimsy Claim, or a complaint made half-teasingly.

-Fighty Clipper, a fast boat with sails or a careless person at an unbecoming job.

-Fleming Cleaver, a knife of stone for cutting meat.

-Fleming, Clement, he a 19th century psycologist known for studying self-ego developement of adolescents.

-Flection Climate, changeable weather, or a moody persons opinions.

-Fleecy Chew, a tangled ball of yarn, or an idiomatic expression for confusion and disorder.

All of these were suggested by the creator of FLCL himself

Well the definitions I gave Roan were strait from the creators, so if you still think Furi Kuri means something else, then theres nothing we can do to persuade you.

Whatever the meaning, there is one thing about the show (and manga from what I've seen): It's CONFUSING. @_@

I've seen most of the show but I missed an episode or two. -_-
I glanced through volume 1 of the manga, I think. Just as hard to keep track of what's going on as in the anime.

But I like it. I should buy the DVDs... ^_^

im a freak, i know everything about the show thanks to watching it about 10 times

ive also lost the abitlity to see color too.

but anyways, it is belived and implied that befor the series, commander amaro was a boy much like noata, cept alot weaker. haruhara was using him in the same way as she is noata, but rather unsucsessflly, and thanks to haruhara, commander amaro lost his eyebrows. why, she might have gotten mad at him. so, in replacement he uses a type of hard sticky seaweed used in sushi, i forget whats its called. its his failed attemt at manlyness.

remember his south park spoof in ep. 5? that implies that he has feelings for haruhara one way or another. i just thought ide state that too because its a common misconseption.

oh and another thing very few realize: the commanders obsession with sweets is his way of trying to get himself back to normal. thanks to him saying "The brain needs glucose. If you wanna get your brain back to normal, try something sweet." i have realized this. he must have been perminatly affected by haruhara.
