uhhhh.... i dunno what you've seen, but they've shown the full ending credits twice for SURE. i remember as clear as a bell, once now, and once back in winter. they did it since it was the last ep.

it would be like if michelangelo painted the sistine chapel, then realized he could make good money painting sloppy reproductions of it on the side of office buildings.
now, i know big o isn't really comparable to the sistine chapel, but i see the original as somewhat of a work of art. it would be a shame to see it cheapened any more than it already has been.
i mean.....is it really that hard to come up with new and exciting ideas? or do we have to keep duplicating, re-making, and continuing old ones?

Ignore anything I've said previously.
No more analogies. If they writers say there should be more, and want to make more, then there should be more.
The end.

so that's how you justify the cheapening of art?
perhaps the writers have become drunk with power or greed?!?! stranger things have been known to happen.
i realize that if the creators want to make more, then there's nothing i can do about it, but i still refuse to support it.
so that's that.

As far as I am concerned, the 1st season was great, but the 2nd season was amazing. I personally loved Act 26, but I also notice the abvious cliffhanger it left. It left you wondering what really happened. This is because even with Season 2 being rushed, thet STILL couldn't explain the whole story (I have seen this said by the writers and creator's themselves). I believe there is only good that can come from a 3rd season of Big O. If you don't like Season 2, just keep to Season 1 and pretend Season 2 never happened, and when and if Season 3 is made forget it exists too. But as far as i'm concerned....The Show Must Go On! (yeah thats extremely corny so sue me)

I agree with that, but act 26 could have been a lot better. It felt like two episodes smashed into one.

I think that Act 26 was an okay season finale but a crummy ending for the series. That's why I wrote my fan-fiction Season 3 (see the link in my signature) -- to show that there is at least one way of picking up the ball and running with it.
I think that the whole, "let's let the viewers decide what it all means" has been overused and has become gimmicky.
As for cheapening art, much of the best art ever created was done on a tight schedule and with a keen eye on getting paid for it.
The whole thing art being noble and not being about money is basically a two-pronged bit of market positioning designed to (1) enhance the social standing of artists and (2) inflate the prices of artworks. I don't think it has any basis in reality; that is, I don't think that Shakespeare and Rembrandt, who very much wanted to get paid, did sloppier work than most artists. If art isn't about money, why don't art galleries give the stuff away?

The reason I like Act 26 is probably the reason other people didn't, it gave this surreal explanation to the backstory that you don't really understand, but I feel its compelling at the same time to see someone brave enough to throw such a huge twist into a plotline.
The same thing goes for Metal Gear Solid 2. But hey, that got a sequel and will have more so that what they tried to say in MGS2 can be fully explained. I recommend the same for Big O.

Does anybody know if Adult Swim will buy out the rights to Big O and do a Season 3? I mean, why would the original creators of the Big O want to keep it if they're never going to dip into the well again with this series/manga? At least if Adult Swim buys out the rights to the show and characters...they can hire writers and artists to continue the series where it actually has a fan base other than Japan. I'd really like to know the answer to this one. What's the cause of the delay on this? Is any word out on this matter at all?

I think Bandai is the one with the rights. So its up to them if they want to make more.
I doubt CN or the writers have any rights.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but the Cartoon Network gave up the rights to air The Big O and gave it to Adult Swim even though Adult Swim is featured on the Cartoon Network. The Big O airs ONLY via Adult Swim now...and my question still stands...what if any progress is there on the question of getting somebody to find out if Bandai would be willing to continue the Big O in either animated series form or a movie down the line? Clearly, if it was the Cartoon Network that got them to give us a Season 2...I really can't see why Adult Swim can't do the same and give us a Season 3. The only thing I'd like to know is if there has been any word from Adult Swim on this question.

Adult Swim
IS Cartoon Network. Its just a special programming block with its own creative team.
Cartoon Network basicly went up to Bandai and helped pay for the second season.
Supposedly someone (writers? Bandai?) gave CN the option to ORDER a 3rd season, but they declined.
..theoretically Bandai could make a 3rd Season/OAV/Movie etc alone if they felt like it.
And as far as Adult Swim/Cartoon Network is concerned, they pretty much tell us that they don't really care anymore. They want to move onto other newer shows.

There you have it people. The Big O is dead. There apparently will NEVER be a Season 3 nor a movie down the line. That teasing by Adult Swim about moving into a more "gardening" direction was nothing more than misdirection or misinterpretation. This really saddens me as I thought and still do believe there is a fanbase for Big O that deserves quenching for more on this show. Because in my opinion...Inuyashi is no match for Big O in terms of depth and storylines yet drivel like Inuyashi get renewed etc..over mature storywriting like Big O. Pathetic.
Makes me wonder how people are going to react to director James Cameron's decision to do a live action film about Battle Angel Alita...a Japanese anima. And doing THIS movie after his 11 Oscars for Titanic.

I guess this is supposed to imply we won't have to worry for the next 2.5 years that no word on a Season 3 needs to air since it fits into the previous mode Bandai used when airing Season 2 after Season 1 ended. But this theory assumes Bandai is letting the artists work on Big O stories NOW...so that it would be ready to air in another 2 years. As far as I can tell from the threads in this forum...that doesn't appear to be the case otherwise somebody would have spilled the beans on a Season 3 in the works.
But even all this appears to be incorrect..because after Season 1 ended...there was NO plan to air a Season 2. It took prodding from the Cartoon Network to get Bandai to work on a Season 2 because of the fan support. What mystifies me at this point is why the Cartoon Network dropped support for The Big O when Bendia gave The Cartoon Network the option of picking up a Season 3. The Cartoon Network dropped it's support for the Big O series after Season 2 ended. So where does that leave the Big O Fan? Stuck in limbo like the holographic grid that was Paradigm City after Act 26.
I would purchase a Season 3 Direct to DVD of the Big O in a second. If they won't do a Season 3 for airing..or won't do a Big O movie...at least release a Season 3 directly via DVD.

I doubt not sure if CN or the writers have any rights. |
Adult Swim IS Cartoon Network.
And doing THIS movie after his 11 Oscars for Titanic. |

no one said anything about Big O being dead... Its just sort of locked in the basement.
And remember it was 2-3 years inbetween season 1 and 2. |

| Okay, then how many years has it been since Season 2 ended? |

| Although I'm not sure its completely relevant: 1.5 years |

| I guess this is supposed to imply we won't have to worry for the next 2.5 years that no word on a Season 3 needs to air since it fits into the previous mode Bandai used when airing Season 2 after Season 1 ended. But this theory assumes Bandai is letting the artists work on Big O stories NOW...so that it would be ready to air in another 2 years. As far as I can tell from the threads in this forum...that doesn't appear to be the case otherwise somebody would have spilled the beans on a Season 3 in the works. |
As far as anyone knows season 3 is NOT in the works.
Now leave me alone.
