Ok now how the Hell is it that these Japanese Animators draw the Characters so dam tall and they aren't that tall ? Like for Example Cowboy Bebop the First time I saw Spike on the episode He looked like if he was 7 feet tall or 6'5 and he is actually 6'2 and faye looked like if she was 6 foot and she is actually 5'7 and not only Cowboy Bebop the is on almost every Anime , in Trigun Vash looks like if he was 7'5 , Roger looks as if he was 6' 5, I can go on and on .. but it seems kind of strange lol . Lemme put it to ya this way in this Picture Spikes legs are very long and he a long from his Torso now normally if someone in real life would have legs long like the Spinached Haired Bounty Hunter you see right here , that Person would be as tall as Shaquille O Neal . Isn't that something

hmmm I never thought of it that way... I notice sometimes they make Faye look too thin though. And alot of times in other shows they mess up hair color or what they are wearing.

They're just differently proportioned, the legs are a lot longer than you'd get with a normal 6 ft. person.

Perhaps the Japanese creators are under the impression that all or most westerners are abnormally tall, and since these characters are supposed to be westernish they made them that way. I can see where they might have been led astray; just go shopping for mens' clothes sometime. You'll be hardpressed to find anything offered below XL and Certainly nothing below L. Personally, I wear a size S and can never ever find clothes that fit me, ever! Americans in general are so freakin fat that clothing companies now make 98% of their clothes big enough for people my size to use as shelter. And we still pay as much for our clothing as those that buy size XXXL but ours contains about a fourth of the material

Guh!!
Sorry, off topic. Oh well.

Part of it might have to do with Westerners (and many of the above mentioned anime characters are of western descent rather than Eastern) tend to be taller. So they just make them "seem" taller than they really are. If it were an American cartoon they might not seem as tall.
Also, some of them are drawn to look more imposing or heighten other character traits. Vash the Stampede, for instance, is sometimes drawn to look very tall because he's a larger than life character, a legend in his own time and legends are tall. Everyone knows that.

Spike is laid back and it's easier to show his laid back style with a lanky build. Roger has an imposing, professional air about him, so he has very broad shoulders, a tall build and a long-legged stride that shows confidence and determination.

It's kind of like how there are a lot of blonde anime characters, but no one in Japan is born with naturally blonde hair. To them, it's just as exotic as the way we see them. Blonde hair and long legs are mysterious-- if you've ever seen Galaxy Express 999, the character Maetel is a good example of this. She's tall, leggy, and has flowing blonde hair-- and she's a total enigma. I know a friend of a friend who was born here but spent her childhood in Japan, and she's got very light, dandelion-fluff hair, and people in Japan were fascinated with her when she was a child. They loved to touch her hair.

)
Anyway, it's just the way they depict people. Japanese people are typically not very tall, and of course all have dark hair and eyes. They draw their anime the complete opposite because it adds an air of something exotic to their stories.

so?
What was that expression... "tall dark and handsome"
I guess because Japanese people are in general shorter than most of the other people in the world (in general), they think that tall is cool.

It always seemed to me that in anime men are made extremely tall while if you read the profiles on the younger female characters most are under 5'5.The femme fatales are made tall for some odd reason. Like someone mentioned eariler it's probably because tall seems cool and exotic. Angel is the perfect example. First she's blonde, 5'10(VERY TALL!!!), blue eyes( I read it in a profile somewhere but they look black) and she's only 117 pounds!

There are lists of conventions most all go by.
Breasts and hips are always two to three times the circumference of the waist (on females). Women are also short-waisted (short as opposed to long torsos) in which the breasts are almost on the same level as the waist. Breasts are always 'perky', even without bras, an abnormality which is enhanced by the upward poking nipples (real nipples point downward). Legs are long like Barbie - long legs seem to equal sex appeal. For the most part, the tall 'femme fatale' is measured seven heads high (as opposed to the normal six heads high).
It's the exact same formula used by American comic book artists. The Japanese ones just put a larger head on the body.
For men/heros, they are always seven heads high, broad-shouldered, and long limbed. Unless they are the teen boy heroes, then they look like pre-adolescent girls.
One of my friends (a model) had married into the military and her husband was stationed in Japan. She said it amusing whenever they took the subway and people stared at them. She: "They're staring at your red hair." He: "They're staring at your tallness."

You guy's are Definately Right . Long legs seem to be the sex appeal for Femme Fatales of Japanese Anime , but Dam this is weird lol .. But I like their style of making Characters look so tall .. But these Japanese Animators seems to give that Goofy tall appearance a perfect example might be Ed from cowboy bebop . but I swear I thought Faye was like 6 feet but she's 5'7 So she has that Amazon Women appearance going on .

These characters obviously can't be accurately tall in their description. The reason why is that (all anime and manga artist know this) a characters height is actually measured by how many heads tall they are.
It would look wrong in many respects if it was done any other way.
And there is no such thing as, for example, 5 1/2 heads tall. There height has to be in whole number, not in whole number and fractions.

I don't think its that the anime characters are very tall, but it just appears that way because most anime characters are fairly thin. Otherwise they are short and fat. How many tall fat anime characters do you see? This is especially the case for CB, look at Hakim from the episode "Stray Dog Strut", hes pretty tall, but he's also skinny as a rail. Hakim is 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighs 233 lb...
