Thats why I was in a good position.

Its not like I read a whole lot about it or talked to anyone about it. I was just like, I heard about this Evangelion thingy, maybe I should watch it.....therefore I liked it, but wasn't over saturated.

EDIT:

Facts and FAQ from that site:

quote:
Solid information currently known:

Budget:
The movie will have a budget of approximately one hundred million - this is a rough estimate but it gives us the info that this movie will be a blockbuster (hopefully of epic proportions).
"Recent Internet rumors suggest that the Evangelion movie shall have the budget equal to that of a blockbuster, being roughly of 100 million or more. To compare this with other top movies; The Matrix had a $63 million budget and LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring had a budget of $109 million. It is unknown where such cash is coming from as the income of Anime does not rival that of Hollywood blockbusters."

Storyline:
The movie will focus on the first few episodes of the series. From the production images it can be gathered that the movie is set to feature "Ramiel" the cube with the wonderful drilling device - an episode that showed us the beauty of japanese power and big guns - something ripe for special effects.

Special Effects:
The effects will be worked upon by the masters behind Lord of the Rings, Weta Workshop.
""We are very excited to be a part of this wonderful project," Weta boss Richard Taylor said. "The subject matter is providing a fantastic level of diversity for us, allowing us to work in the anime world – which is at the other end of the design spectrum from Middle-earth. Having had the privilege of working on such strong source material that The Lord of the Rings offered, it is a privilege to again be involved in subject matter that has a strong and loyal fan base."

Director:
Hideaki Anno will NOT be directing.

Movie Release Date:
Anywhere between 2006-2010.

Executive Producer:
Husband of voice actress for Asuka - Tiffany Grant, Matthew Greenfield

FAQ About the movie:

1. Will it suck?
This really is the major question, isn't it? Will this movie be any good. Well, we just don't know! Chances are Hollywood could pull out a massive flop - as they do so often. Destroying all things good. BUT there is also the slight possibility the movie could be superb and masterful - we can only hope.

2. How true will it remain to the original series?
It is doubtful that it will be exactly the same... what would be the point in creating a mere replica? Many aspects will be altered simply to present the story in another medium without making it look "out of place" or stupid.

3. Who is directing the movie?
No director as of yet. It will not be Hideaki Anno or Peter Jackson.

4. Who is starring in the movie?
No actors as of yet. Shinji will most likely NOT be played by Daniel Radcliffe

5. When will the movie be released?
Early suggestions say 2006

6. Will it be in japanese?
No, well at least not all of it.

7. What part of the series will it be based on?
Rumors suggest the opening few episodes of the series

8. Will it be a completely new story?
Rumors also suggest that the storyline is open to distortion by the film makers

9. Will it be dumbed-down?
i.e. made less intelligent and more blatantly obvious for a larger audience
Probably. Sadly.

10. What's Evangelion?
Go away.

11. Angels or Space Invaders?
Angels. Angels. Angels.

12. Sequel?
If the first is successful!

Yep, it's an Evangelion game. It's pretty close to being a sequel, featuring advanced weaponry, new armor systems, and the "official" answer on Evangelion. Newtype USA had an article on it.

I'm confused... can you tell this from the kick ass concept art... or the fact that it is still years away from release?

I can I tell? From the ugly, crappy concept art and the fact Anno isn't going to be directing it. (IMO)

Pretty much anything turned live action from cartoon is gonna suck. I hope it will be good but I doubt it
Zopwx2 01-19-2004 04:32 PM
It seems they won't even try to tackle the ending. The movie will only encompass the first few episodes.

how is this concept art crappy?

IamRogerSmith 01-19-2004 05:02 PM
Well the way I see it... Raven is either still in the throws of learning sarchasm... or his opinion of concept art is pretty worthless. However, his point "the fact Anno isn't going to be directing it" is valid to some degree.

I think people would have respected your opinion more if you had reasons like Raven, "Pretty much anything turned live action from cartoon is gonna suck. I hope it will be good but I doubt it." (of which I am the same skeptical opinion).

The fact the knife sheath is in the knee rather than the shoulder makes...more sense than the series, frankly.

..Makes you wonder, will everyones favorite fridge-dwelling penguin be showing up? Tongue

Raven 01-20-2004 12:18 PM
Yes... thats concept art... very nice. Now lets see some real pictures before I change my mind.

Sorry about that IamRogerSmith, I didn't know you could tell a movie will be a five star blockbuster from the concept art

We realy don't know anything about the movie. It could come out as late as 2010 or maybe never.

All the art proves is that they are not planning to drastically change the designs of the eva's

I actually liked the ending. Strange but after a while you would think a little and it would start to make some sense.

better than the way big o turned out....... season 3?
Byranx 01-21-2004 09:32 PM
Checkin out some threads at some site dedicated to the live action Eva movie and they say Kate Rose and "Ray" may just be the concept aritists signing their work...not necessarily the names of the characters they drew (Asuka, Rei)....

I've been checking out this older series and can't figure out why some people think so highly of it. The main character is a whine-baby, they never explain where the angels are coming from, or what their motivations are other than to just crash into Adam. Also, it doesn't make sense that if you're going to throw so many religious plot lines into the show that there isn't any actual religion in the show or the movie. Why not have an angel give some warning or something? It has so many Christian and Jewish things in it but they never mention any particular doctrines of these religions.

That's part of the problem with basing a fictional world view on religions that believe in revelation and prophecy. I think things would have been better without the religious borrowing. Also, where the hell did the Spear of Longinus come from? The original (mythical) one was supposedly the one used to pierce the side of Christ and was a good deal smaller and simpler than the one in Evangelion.

That said, I did like the last two episodes and the fact that they didn't put mecha battles into every episode. I wish Big O would have done a few more like that besides Act 25. The first part of the last movie was also a pretty good slam at all the hentai folks who debase and degrade characters for their weird hangups.

Also, I'm not sure they ever explain how the souls of the pilots' mothers could be inside the Evas or that NERV would even know that. And how do they keep Rei's soul from drifting off somewhere when one of her bodies dies?

According to the Red Book most of the angels have been lying dormant on the earth (more specifically in the sea or other locations, for example
a volcano) or moon. The Angels want to unite with Adam because they are alone. When Rei is assimilated with one of the angels it
asks her "what is this feeling, pain" and she says, "no this is loneliness".
But not just that it is also because they want their race to continue on into the future (well, at least some of them because Tabris (Kaoru) wanted humanity to survive).

The Lance of Loginus originated from the Black Moon or in it's current state the Geo front. Another thing found with it was Lilith humanity's mother, the lance was a weapon born from herself which gave her children (lilims aka humans) the ability to fight off the angels. The Lance of Longinus also plays a big part in the Third Impact (it possesses the fruit of wisdom).

The mothers of the children were assimilated into the Evas willingly. One result is having a full absorption of the mind, body, and soul. The second result is a partial absorption which takes the soul, and a large portion of the mind but leaves behind an empty husk. The reason that the Evas need a human soul of their own is because if they don't have one then the angels can easily exploit them. Tabris was a good example of this as well as what happened to Eva Unit-03. Finally the presence of the mothers' souls in the Evas gave mental support to the children (regardless of wether or not they were aware of their presence).

Well, I help this clears things up better. Because I know that it took a lot of thought for myself to put things together after the series concluded.
