Why I would pick Dorothy over Angel?

I have been wrestling with this question for about a week. I believe there are many factors to be taken into account.
Admittedly (in my eyes), Angel is more physically attractive than Dorothy, using classical metrics. Her provocative attire and her shapely figure would certainly turn heads in real life. So what is it about Dorothy that compels me to pick her over Angel?
First of all, I believe Dorothy’s physique is much less intimidating to geeks (myself included) than Angel. I am sure I’m not the only person to avoid the pain and humiliation from being rejected by “the beautiful people”.

Angel could be labeled as a “beautiful person” and would certainly fit in the “in crowd.” Memories of High School and College come to mind when I think of the poor treatment geeks received from members of the “in crowd”, hence forcing many geeks to seek out less threaten members of the opposite sex. So, if I was in at a pool hall or party and saw Angel and Dorothy standing together, I would certainly feel more comfortable approaching Dorothy.
I must confess being a shy introvert has caused me to feel slightly intimidated by extroverts. I am convinced that Dorothy is an introvert, and Angel is not. Knowing this, I am more inclined to seek out Dorothy, since Angel behavior is as subtle as a jackhammer and would be a bit too unnerving for a person like myself.
Speaking of which, there is a matter of personality. Angel’s personality is a bit to self-serving. She tends to use whomever for whatever she wants (or needs). At the very least, the usage of seductive tactics to melt a person down is considered poor manners. Dorothy doesn’t use such tactics. She utilizes the power of logical persuasion and, at times uses sarcastic baiting to get things done. I find her witty phrases and her sarcastic remarks absolutely delightful (most introverts tend to agree).
Another factor is common for most programmers. When I was in college, my major was Computer Science with an emphasis in Artificial Intelligence. So, the idea on an artificial life-form is absolutely fascinating. A being with the strength on several body builders, the wit of the most intelligent scientist, the meekness of the most delicate person and the physique of a beautiful woman is too much to resist. Angel seems too much like a common self-indulgent person. She would almost certainly use and discard the people around her.
As my last and most personal factor, I really dig Dorothy’s look. A pale, red headed, athletically superior intellect, with the strength to force anybody to her will, yet decides not to abuse such power, is top on my book. No offense to all the Angels of the world, I would rather have a Dorothy.

I hear ya man. Although I would hang around Angel to confirm said behavior patterns (what I call close range, passive recon). So a Dorothy would suit me well too. Although she would have to be tall as I am 6'4'' tall myself, so 5' 6'' or taller in my case.

I'm with that, tvperez.
Nice writing.
My feelings are much more primitive:
Angel sure is a blonde knockout - and would be suitable for one of those spontanious, fleeting moments (booze optional) - though she really doesn't do it for me beyond that.
To be seen with her would be good for bragging rights, though there's nothing in the Intellectually Stimutating Department.
Dorothy immediately got my attention from the first second I saw her on screen - and without having her physical attribues on full display, either.
I would only be repeating myself if I went on about how she looks so cute and adorable and smart as she works herself through the daily grind that is Life In Paradigm.
If Angel were to turn me down, I would only expect that.
If Dorothy were to, that would be cause for a serious bout of depression.

Too hard to choose. I want both!
From Roger's point of view, the choice is a no-brainer. For a variety of reasons, it has to be Dorothy. Roger likes a quiet home liife, which is something Angel can't possibly provide. Dorothy is so deeply attached to Roger that it would be impossible to get rid of her, anyway. And
| spoiler (highlight to read): |
| then there's the Big O copilot angle. |
I really like Angel. I like obnoxious women if their heart's in the right place. (Dorothy's adorably obnoxious too, in an entirely different way). Angel's always putting on an act, but she doesn't really want Roger to believe it, or even pretend that he does, so that's okay. But Angel is a high-maintenance friend, no doubt about it. If things are too quiet, she'll pick a fight just to relieve the boredom. But at least with Angel, you never have to wonder what you did to upset her. She won't hesitate to tell you, in detail, loudly, with graphic gestures. Dorothy expects you to figure these things out without much help from her.

Correct in every respect, ACT. Although I think Roger never had this debate with his emotions. It seems like Roger fell for Dorothy the second he saw her.

Well, I believe that Roger was trying to fool himself in believing that there was something more between him and Angel. At least in my opinion, his feelings for Dorothy were no longer questionable when Dorothy was abducted and stripped from her memory core.
Then again, I have to agree that Angel is not totally an evil or vile person. Yes she is self-serving, but she does have her good points too. I mean, why would she approach Dorothy and tell her that she liked her? Was she trying to score points with Roger? I don't think so. I think she wanted to offer the olive branch, given that Roger already made his decision.
Realistically or not, most of the gentlemen here see themselves as Roger Smiths. The idea of a quiet home life is appealing. A person like Angel wouldn't fit in this lifestyle. High maintainability would be considered a turn off, at least in my eyes. This is where Dorothy shines.
So in all honesty, I have nothing personally again people like Angel. If I had a chance to meet her, I would certainly be kind. Self evidently, I wouldn't dare approach her romantically. I just wouldn't feel comfortable around her.

You can dislike Angel for trying to steal Roger away from Dorothy, but you can't hate her. In the mystery behind Paradigm City's past, she is its most tragic victim.

I think Angel does have her good points. Dorothy is very submissive and quiet and introverted. That is fine and all, but there is not much conversation there.
Angel on the otherhand, you are guaranteed an exciting time with conversation and action. She shows a devotion to Roger even when it goes against the will of the Union and against her main goal. Then she was woman enough to shake hands with Dorothy and say "You win." instead of fighting like cats over him.
So all in all, I would perfer Angel. Of course I could be biased since my wife is just like her.

Simple. 'Cause Dorothy showed up on the TV screen first.

I think it's very unfair of having to 'choose' between one or the other, as both are obviously the extreme aspects of the 'Madonna-Whore' Complex.
Dorothy is the 'Madonna' - the pure one, the homebody, the one for comfort and safety. Everything about her screams innocence and making her an android (toy) keeps it that way.
Angel is the 'Whore' - the wild one, the one who uses her physical traits to get anything, willing to dump people out of her life if they don't prove useful. She is constantly asserting her sexiness by dress, posture, and conversation.
I'm not saying either is bad, I just fine the whole thing funny - Roger gets both types of women when (ideally) both aspects should be in one person.
Oh, well, beggers can't be choosers. ^_^

Dorothy has more of the attributes that I prefer in a partner, (brains, wit, humor....pale and redheaded.

but once Angel let down her facade late in season 2 she finally showed that she was more than just eye candy. There was a decent person in there, you just had to dig to find her.
I agree completely. A "Dorothy", as you call the personality, is definately more befitting of my tastes. I would feel more comfortable with a Dorothy-like character, as I tend to share some of her traits myself.
Although...I wouldn't agree completely with your description of Angel, at least in season 2, anyway. In the later episodes, she opens up more, and is not as obnoxious and manipulative as the Angel we knew in season 1.

Call me nuts, I guess. I'm personally a big Angel fan. BUt I do agree that Dorothy is the better suited for Roger's temperment, in lots of ways.

Choosing Dorothy over Angel is absurd. Dorothy is a metal construct. At least Angel is a.... well, she's a memory.
Hm.
Well, I still think it's absurd to think there's romantic tension between Roger and Dorothy. Perhaps there is a slight jealousy of Angel on the part of Dorothy, but she's not vying for Roger's attention in a romantic or sexual manner. Angel is of more interest, and not just because she's obviously more attractive in a physical sense, but because she has more of a personality. True, Dorothy seems to form a bond with Roger and shows an increasing personality over time, but she's an android, he's a man. A warm-blooded man wants a warm-blooded woman. Angel is interesting, enigmatic - troublesome, yes - but vivacious.
Angel is teh win.
But then, Roger doesn't seem especially interested in anyone, to tell the truth.

Let's see ... Dorothy is loyal, honest, and forthright.
Angel is backstabbing, manipulative, and has a tendency to leave people in life-threatening situations that she caused.
Not much choice, is there?

Wow, ACT, the Dorothy one just blew my mind.
It's so nice to be welcomed back home after a hard day's work.
Speaking of work, now I can't concentrate on my own.
