i think the only way to make the ending easier to understand is to change it and THAT would be blasphemy

There are pictures of the production art for a possible EVA movie in this thread:

It would be if they majorly changed it. Major BLASPHEMY!!!

I have a very good idea of what the ending means but my brain still goes wonky when I try to explain it.

Oh well. I can only dream....

(I shall use my super necromancy skillz to bring this thread back from the dead! Pleased )

ANN posted an article about the live-action NGE movie today. It features a link to an interview with Richard Taylor ( Anime Smile ) , WETA's special effects supervisor, about his visit to Japan concerning NGE.

Taylor Pursuing Neon Genesis

Oscar-winning visual-effects supervisor Richard Taylor told SCI FI Wire that he is actively chasing his dream of realizing a live-action big-screen version of the cult-favorite Japanese anime series Neon Genesis: Evangelion. The series, set in 2015, centers on four seemingly ordinary Japanese teenagers destined to save what's left of Earth and its population after a supposed meteorite disaster and the arrival of an alien species called the Angels.

"I've just been to Japan pursuing this," Taylor said in an interview while promoting his latest project, King Kong. "I think that is the great untold story to the world. It is sublime. It is arguably some of the most beautiful and poignant animation ever created, and a huge percentage of the pop culture world now know it, but only through a live-action feature film will it transcend that and receive the recognition for the art piece that it is."

Taylor added: "Now actually achieving it as a live-action feature film is extremely difficult to imagine. Technologically, sure, it's doable. But at an esoteric, universe level, it is an unbelievably impacting and dramatic story concept. [It's got] pseudo-religious overtones, and all these wonderful motifs are woven into it. It's something that you can generate over 26 hours of animation, but trying to encapsulate that down into a feature film would be a massive challenge. But we've got the endorsement of GAINAX, the original creators, and with the right director I think it could be a very beautiful movie. I think it's a story worthy of telling. And that's my big pursuit at the moment. I've put an awful lot of energy into it."

Currently, the rights to Neon Genesis: Evangelion are owned by John Ledford and ADV, America's largest distributor of anime. Taylor said that his hope is that his company, New Zealand F/X house Weta Workshop, might assume some role in co-producing Neon Genesis as a feature. "We'll throw our hearts into it regardless," Taylor said. "We'll be blessed just to work on it. But it would be an opportunity for us to look at it at a different level if [Weta were involved in the production]."

I know I find it very, very, VERY nice to see that there's a lot of passion behind this movie. It's a good sign. When there's devotion and reverance to a movie's premise, the movie itself tends to be better. Wink

Besides, if by some chance this whole live-action NGE flops, at least the special effects will totally MELT YOUR FACE OFF. Pleased

It's still good that WETA is still chasing the permission to do this project. I think of all the people that could be involved, WETA would do the best work at least effects wise.

Now if they grabbed ol' Peter Jackson for the project... GUARANTEED OSCAR.

This seems pretty damn exciting but I heard that James Cameron (Titanic) might be the lead man to direct the film.
Peace.

James Cameron?!?!?

Now this sounds good. But, what happened to his Battle Angel Alita project?

Yeah, I heard about Cameron's name coming up about both Battle Angel Alita and Neon Genesis Evangelion and this is what I found:

As of now, Cameron is planning to make a Battle Angel Alita movie, a project he has been hinting at for years. Also, Cameron has mentioned that he plans to create a 3-D project about man's first trip to Mars. The status and date for either projects is unknown at this point. It is also worth noting, that Cameron is up to direct the live action adaptation of Neon Genesis Evangelion though no director has been officially announced for that project.

So it maybe a possibly that he might be doing N.G.E.
Peace.

I read this and I just got scared.

What the hell is this? Changing ol' girl Asuka's name to "Kate Rose". What the hell is a "Kate Rose"? If they were going to change her name (which I hope they don't), they should give her something like a "Jessica"... definetly not Kate Rose.

Sorry, I just had to get this out and since I'm in a total Evangelion mode right now, it just kind of pissed me off. What's next? Changing Shinji's name to Steve?
Peace.

*insert random rant about things needing to be authentic.*

They can do whatever they want to with the eva movie. Name changes, this surprises anyone?

They're not the final names, their just for the western WETA artisits to differentiate between pilots. It says rei ayanami on her suit in the actual painting even though her name is listed differently.

Also they're going for an international cast and if the characters are japanese they will keep their original, if not they will have to change their names.

Thanks, Zopwx2. That's really good to know and its also good that they'll be using international actors and not actors from the US here.

Steve, what the hell was I thinkin'? Big Grin

I heard of this earlier.

It would be freaking awesome if they found the right actors to do each part.

Especially one for Asuka. Tongue

And it shouldn't be the same quality as Aeon Flux...

Seriously, the most entertaining part about this movie is going to be that someones going to begin crying foul if they don't find an actual albino to play Rei.

You know it's going to happen, this is the internet we're talking about.

http://eva.trivialbeing.net/facts.php

I got all my facts there. Barrin had already posted this, but I'll do it again.

It's supposed to come out before 2010 and it's supposed to focus on the first couple of episodes.

I hear that but are you serious?! Was he actually seriously considered for playing the part of Shinji? Japanese kids with English accents. What's the world coming to? I have to say that whoever plays Shinji Ikari in the movie or movies is going to be hated like you know what. That dude is going have to do A LOT, A LOT of crying and probably have to do a lot of research on depression... before he becomes depressed himself in the long run.
Peace.
corrupt 01-31-2006 01:41 PM
They need to give somone somekind of drug to be as depressed as shiji, in fatc half the charaters are really weird and depressed...
