Can I get a dome count?

Big_Chow 12-16-2003 10:23 AM
We are given various shots of the domes throughout the series but do we ever get the total number of domes? There has to be at least eleven domes. Episode one establishes that there is a west dome number five, if we say that's the last one then there are the four before it, the central dome, and because the domes appear to be symmetrical five more east domes. But there are in fact domes behind central dome and smaller ones behind the domes such as the amusement park dome. So how many are there total?

Also how many are named?

We get Central Dome, West Dome #5 (the mint), Ailseberry...

And just for more fun, how many areas outside the domes are mentioned? Electric City is obviously a seperate area given the drive, but its part of the major metropolitan area given the fact that it all falls under the SD.

The highest-numbered dome mentioned in the show is #13, from "Beck Comes Back." Counting the ones in the zopwx2's aerial Paradigm comparison, there are 14 on Manhattan Island and 4 on the New Jersey side of the Hudson. If Ailesberry is Long Island, then that would be one more, for a total of 19.

14 in manhattan! sheesh

well i've never been to New York so i wouldnt know, but my guess is that some of the domes are football sized in order to fit that much

i wonder if there are any domes in NY state...probably not

Yes! I would be living in the biggest dome! (I'm on 80th street)

But anyway, Manhatten isn't all that big. Running, you could probably go across it in 30 - 40 minutes from east to west.

yea central dome (paradigm hq) is around 59th st along fifth avenue (the upperclass rich people live mostly here), and it covers most of central park.

Heh. Paradigm Dome (the biggest one) is half the width of Manhattan, making it easily over a mile across and probably almost that in height. As near as I can make out, the smallest dome in the comparison picture is about 1/8 of a mile across, or almost 700 feet, making it larger than any sports arena or dome in existence today.

Ailesberry can't be on Long Island, because that would put it right smack in the middle of the desert. Brooklyn and Queens, which are the first two counties of Long Island (Kings and Queens respectively) are a complete desert (JFK Airport, located near the Rockaway penninsula, and Coney Island, located in Brooklyn, are both depicted in the desert).

Just thought I might point that out.

Aliesberry is probably either on the Jersey side of the Hudson, or perhaps north of the city (perhaps Westchester county).

...thank you...
Piano Black 12-16-2003 09:50 PM
I counted 23.
evanASF27 12-16-2003 10:17 PM
alright

I highlighted the domes for us to see more easily. I counted 21 (including L.I.)

How so? Long Island is to the east (right) of Manhattan, not the left...those domes are in New Jersey, not Long Island. Again, Long Island is a desert...no one appears to live there, including dome-dwellers.
Blackcat 12-16-2003 10:20 PM
So 20?

BTW, where did you get that picture to begin with?

(I'm asuming Long Island is Ailesburry Fallen Phoenix Sweatdrop )

COS THAT DOME IS FRIGGIN HUGE! @_@;;;;

right now it doesn't matter where the stupid desert is -_-;;; We just want the Number of domes. So go to the picture count them up and add 1 more for Gordon Rosewater's dome. Tongue Mad Sweatdrop

I counted again and got 21. evanASF27 didn't circle one. I have circled it in black. It looks like a dome to me.
MetalGoldKnight 12-16-2003 11:30 PM
Found 2 more, which would bring the total to 24.

Where does roger live? Maybe we should start marking the map for important big o landmarks.
evanASF27 12-16-2003 11:53 PM
those last two "domes" that were "discovered" are too small to be domes. Even if we take perspective into account...those two look to be a masimum 2 blocks....which isn't enough to really build a dome for :-/

sorry *buzzer sounds* ENHNHNHNN!!
Zopwx2 12-16-2003 11:57 PM
they are probably covered entry ways into paradigm dome like the one we see at the begining of act 4 :

According to Act 23, East 72nd Street, which is perpendicular to and about 2/3 along the length of Central Park. It should put Paradigm Main Dome to the right from the rooftop, which I believe faces west.

You may be right, but Long Island is very large compared to Manhattan. It would be quite possible for the Atlantic Ocean side (where Coney Island and JFK airport are) to be all sand and the area near North Beach and Flushing to be ok. Or the Ailesberry dome may have built to keep out the sand.

A Long Island location is consistent with the smoke from the burning Ailesberry dome being visible to the right of Paradigm main dome in Act 23, if Dastun were on the southern part of Manhatten.
