Why are their NYC locations in the 2nd Big 'O' soundtrack?

Now, if only we could figure out where the desert starts we could plot the current status of the north east to an extent.

Isn't that ruined amusement park that Crispy stumbles across in Leviathan supposed to be Coney Island? Thats what it looks like to me in any case . . .

If it is Coney Island, then how the heck did it get in the middle of the desert? The "event" must have been some wild and crazy ride to have caused that . . .

Again, it appears that all of Brooklyn-Queens has been turned into a wasteland. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of Long Island was also turned into a desert.

It isn't that big of a stretch to imagine that a terrible disaster could have changed the climate.

"Far past, it is categorized to the place where it was called Manhattan at one time (in these times as for the place name it does not remain in even memory) the city where it is enclosed in the dome (or the slum around) name.
It happened 40 years ago, "what?" in order that the earth becomes the world where it is covered in the cloud whose always lead color is thick depending upon, that escapes from the trick of cold and the air circulation which are brought, the people of part construct the enormous dome.
Inside the dome, the air and the atmosphere which are purified good temperature and humidity are managed artificially, and being mistaken ones in the sunshine and the time fall also the rain and to the snow."

A poor translation from the-big-o.net.

Don't forget the sign of "Grand Central" when the Union meets for the first time!

Also, in Roger's pre-Event vision in Act 14
spoiler (highlight to read):
and again in Act 26
, there's a shot of another extremely noticeable New York landmark: the Flatiron Building. It's known for its triangular shape.

When Roger hands Big Ear money, you can also see that the currency is American $20 bills.

Thoughts on the desert.

Would a massive nuclear bombardment, or even conventional bombardment sufficent to destroy the landscape in new england creat the desert effect we see?

The climate doesn't seem to have changed that much. Despite the cloud cover the clothing on people doesn't seem to have changed that much. Roger seems to adopt only an over coat in the winter. the MP's are always seen in Ike jackets. MAybe paradigm is constantly cool, but it doesn't seem to be siberia.

Didn't the mechagodzilla-looking leviathan 17 megadeus' disintegration power turn things into a fine sand? if an army of bigs fought an army of leviathans in a past reset, and the current author/director at the time kept Paradigm the way it was in their memory, that would explain much about the prevalance of random "deserts" scattered about, indeed.

One possible source of sand is the ocean itself. My grandparents' house near Newport had a 10' sand dune between it and the ocean, that had formed in about 25 years after the 1938 hurricane.

Coney Island is on the Atlantic Ocean side of Long Island. I wonder what the elevation of the Brooklyn end of the island is.

Southern Manhattan is (obviously) underwater. And as I recall, that section of Manhattan was the first area colonized by Europeans because the rest was swamp; logically, any ocean rising would have taken down the rest of the island first. Perhaps the southern tip of Manhattan was undermined by the Behemoth?

And another thing: If the huge war fought with thousands of Bigs was an actual event and not just symbolic, where is all the wreckage? Less durable things like buildings and supertankers are all over the place, so where are the demolished Megadeuses?

Found this topographic map of the New York City area on Google. Make of it what you will. Southern Manhattan is fairly low-lying, but there are areas around the rest of the island that are elevated. So some of the devestation *could* be from a slight rise in sea level.

Describing the Topography of New York

On the top-most map, Coney Island is on the west edge of that thumb-like projection at the southernmost end of Brooklyn. That's about 12-15 miles from mid-Manhattan, so Schwartzwald walked quite a long way. On the bottom-most map (of Brooklyn and Queens only), JFK Airport is along the top of that bay along the south coast. The "desert" looks more and more like a giant sandbar covering Brooklyn and southern Queens.

As for there no wrecked Bigs lying around from the war, maybe the wrecks were salvaged and gutted for useful parts over the years. I had always assumed that the newer Megadeuses were build around salvaged core parts (remember the Big's head hidden inside the Foreign Megadeus in episode 14?) Or the lack of wreckage supports Gordon Rosewater's assertion that the war never really happened.
