Battle Royale

Dude... A million thanks for the info, Stevie! Now I have Vol. 3 to look forward to in the coming weeks.

There are a couple of big books stores around my house (Borders, Barnes & Noble), so I'll check those out first when I get the chance to go home for the holidays. I hear that the novel is excellent compared to all the other versions of BR (probably cuz it's the original), and I hope to read it sometime soon.

Somebody told me the manga is the worst of the 3 versions...

Is this true, or are they just screwing with me. Since..yeah, might as well ask now incase I get a chance to buy it soon.

Well, I haven't seen the movie or read the book, but I did read the first three volumes of the manga. I think it's got an incredible cast of characters, and almost all of them are given a back story and some time to shine. Sometimes, this is done before the characters are killed (which made some of the death scenes very dramatic), other times, the back story is given after the death (giving more insight on the person killed). Still, the dialogue is well-written (or should I say, well-translated?), and I love the characterizations. The story is graphic, scary, touching, and even funny at times. I highly recommend the manga, but I don't know how it compares to the other two versions. That's just my two cents. Smile )

Maybe Stevie can give you a better answer, since he seems to be very familiar with all things BR. Big Grin

Basic summary:

For some reason I dont fully remember (overpopulation or...economic despair...something), the Japanese government randomly picks a class of kids, ships 'em to an island, gives them randomly drawn weapons. They kill each other. Badass with an uzi acts like the angel of death, eventually gets wasted. Some other stuff happens, many people die. A fun time is had by all.

It's hard to explain this movie (ok, not really, Im just lazy). Basically you should just see it, its good.

You got everything right except the initial reason, which is supposed to be a military simulation program. But those who read the entire thing, watch the movie, etc. know that it's not the main reason why the "Program" is held...

Well I haven't seen the Movie though I want to see it so Badly , I read the Manga and I have to say it looks very detailed even the Human Anatomy . But yeah I read books 1,2,3,4 and 5 I'm waiting for Book 6 to come out I read it all the time when I'm at book store . I mean it's Greusome it has intense Violence , I mean it has more Violence than Akira , I mean when you look at the Movie Akira and one of the Soilders get shot the only thing you see is blood but in Battle Royal you don't only see blood you see the Brains spilling out and parts of the Human body exposed .I wonder how it's going to end in the Manga Version but don't tell me .

Region 3?? Aw, man. Guess I won't be seeing that. I'm still waiting to see the original BR, but I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon (unless I buy a bootleg, but I'm trying to hold out just in case of an official release).

I did see the BR book at an Asian bookstore near my appartment, though! I'm planning to buy it this weekend. As for the manga, I still can't recommend it enough. It's already up to Volume 5, and the story keeps getting better.

Im sure the movie was good...

I'm not exactly 'educated' on this topic, but I heard that the live-action Battle Royale movie was a terrible depiction of the comic-books. (I have not seen the movie because of this.) Personally, I think of Battle Royale as one of the greatest mangas ever made, but I think that the movie was probably rushed out as a result of the public's outcry/reaction to its insanely real content.

The movie was quite good, but I haven't read the book, so...yeah, I can't compare them.

It was Great, it was missings scenes from the Manga but that's to be expected.
