14 and 17 is not that different. I know, I was there.

Jeff is a gentleman (at least I haven't seen anything to contridict that) and he would not take advantage of Redd in any way. I remember 14 year old boys - I remember them being disgusting little *********** and I chased older guys (seems to be a theme) to not have to go through conversations about video games and bathroom humor. As long as the guy is a gentleman, then I see nothing wrong with such an age difference in the teen years.
That is what I had meant; I did not mean to cause any misunderstandings with my first statement about age.

That's exactly right...age is just a number...it really doesn't have much significance beyond how you have matured physically (one would hope mentally, but this isn't always true). Why should age really make a difference in a relationship? Two years apart, ten years apart, there isn't much difference...though I'd say once you get to the twenty year mark...
I know several people who are much older than I am, yet are some of the most immature people I've met. Conversely, I also know some people who are younger than I am who are some of the most mature people I've met!
Wisdom doesn't come with age, either...if it did, the world wouldn't be as screwed up as it is.
So then, why is it that a four year difference should be so bad, dominusofdeath? What's wrong if a fourteen-year-old girl likes an eighteen-year-old boy? Or if a twenty-year-old man and a twenty five-year-old woman fall in love and get married?
Why would that be such a crime?

Well, it *is* illegal...
Although I'm sure some younger folks can be mature about it, most will not. That's why age makes such a convenient guideline.
Aww, thanks all of you for sticking up for me... us.

I consider myself mature... and Jeef is too.
And... it's not illegal (until he's 18 ) right...?

What's illegal? A twenty-year-old marrying a twenty-five year old? No, that's perfectly legal...there's nothing wrong with that.
An eighteen-year-old marrying a fourteen-year-old would be illegal, but I only specified "liking" in terms of that relationship...so that isn't a crime, either.
Though I must say, even if something were illegal, would that necessarily make it wrong? After all, there are a quite a few things that are illegal that I think shouldn't be...I wouldn't let a law stand in the way of my personal beliefs about something (even if it might deter me from following through on said beliefs
)
Having a "normal" relationship (e.g., dating) at that age, as best as I know, isn't illegal...marrying and having a...shall we say, "passionate" relationship is, I think...
But what the law doesn't know can't hurt it...
I am not supporting and/or endorsing breaking the law, but it's just my opinion that if two people are mature, in their right mind, and in love, the law shouldn't stand in the way...
Well, in other news, has anyone gotten to work on that table listing all the Paradigm relationships yet?
I would, but I've been terribly bust lately...

Yes, the said "passionate" relationship would be illegal. Statutory rape.
Also, getting onto the laws. Providing more proof for ytour analysis... Would you say Jay-Walking is immoral? It's illegal, but, gee, I wond'er what the moral implications of Jay-Walking is...
So, almost preaching civil disobediance, there, FP. It seems so, even with your "disclaimer". And, yes. But there are limits. Someone may *think* they're mature, but they may not be. But, you get into a gray area around 17. You're not really sure. The whole point of the law is to try to avoid this gray area in your proposition. They decided that around 18 you are mature enough, even though there may be exceptions. It's all relative to the person, and god now I'm ranting incoherently...

yea, "passionate" is bad at that age
but i mean if they just going out, chillin', taking in a movie, i mean, you know
then so what?

That usually happens when FP posts, or someone goes into philosophy or something. Usually, it continues with me agreeing with FP, or me debating the philosophy, FP jumping in, me providing more evidence, and oh no I've gone cross-eyed.
Anyway, I'm confident Redd and Jeff are sensible enough to abstain until they're ready... I mean, most everyone at these forums are well grounded.
Ack...
I think you guys are taking this much too far....
You see...Jeff lives far away from me... (he lives in NJ and I live in CA) so "dating" is not really possible... it's just a small crush over the internet...
I think that this whole crush thing has just made our friendship stronger, perhaps...
Ah, hell, i don't know what I'm saying anymore... I'm so confused...
Anyway, who's dog-boy's mystery girl? We must know!

Hmmmm, it would be interesting to check in five years and see if any of these potential relationships ever moved beyond the crush stage.

Why not, Ben? My husband and I met a message board, so it's always possible.
Rouge is a nice gal, Dog-chan - you have good taste. ^_^ *scratches behind his ears*
