ok, this is for all of u wondering about the differences between the japanese verison and the american one.

I just finished watching both side by side, on my computer, and the only differences i saw where slight editing of mouth moments, and small details such as dastun's hat being on in one scene. There are other small things, such as slowing down of some scenes, like big o sinking in the water, and other scenes are sped up a bit, another scene is zoomed in, etc, etc. I could take screenshots of both, but that's only if u guys really want me to. Anyways, just wanted to let u all knowBig Grin

so, u guys want me to make some screenshots, i feel like doing it anyway, it's pretty interesting, seeing the changes, right next to eachother

Screenshots rule.

Act 26:

Was a kickass episode in its own right. But didn't answer the majority of the questions to the face value story of big o. In fact it made a whole bunch of new ones.

As opposed to the symbolism and religious subtext plot, I have no idea.

About the Angel/Lucifer thing...

Roger calls angel a "Fallen Angel" in act 3... Just saying...
Ormco 11-07-2003 10:21 PM
First off, I'll indicate the obvious, and say I'm new here.

I've read through this whole discussion, hoping to gain some enlightenment into the chaos that was episode 26. And really I don't have anything to add in terms of what I think actually happened. However, I have noticed one thing that wasn't pointed out, as far as I know.
In the end, when we see Dorothy and Angel on the street, Dorothy doesn't have the little eye shadow thing under her eyes. *shrug* I don't know, maybe the angle of that shot just made it look that way. But if it was intentional, maybe it gives more credence to the idea that this is a new version of Paradigm, and not just a return to the beginning, since the eye shadow thing is one of the main features of android Dorothy that made her look "inhuman", and thus the omission could indicate that we're viewing a human Dorothy.
Just my two cents.

I wonder about Alex's brilliant white suit:

When Big Fau stabbed him in the back with those cables, I would have thought that we would see at least a trace of red seeping from the point of contact.
I mean, he sure let out enough of a wail to indicate that the pointy ends of the cables actually pierced his suit.

Vampirism?
Preventer Wind 11-08-2003 07:01 AM
ya ur right YZ, i found that very odd indeed, it didnt even seem like it effected him at all. ironically i wouldnt be surprised if he was either some sort of cyborg or was not even a real person to begin with.

noteably, i think those roger smith dolls could have been produced for the people who watch the show, maybe so/maybe no
InsInIfIcant 11-08-2003 02:37 PM
It seemed to me that the way Alex was stabed in the back appeared to look alot like Angels scars. I might just be misremebering but Im pretty sure. I wonder if that means anything?

~THE BIG O SEASON 1 QUESTIONS~

1. ROGER THE NEGOTIATOR

- Is Roger a religious man? (He prays)
- Why is the megadeus called BIG O?

2. DOROTHY, DOROTHY

-N/A (don't have any specifics points to note)

3. ELECTRIC CITY

- How does the city get its power if the monster creating the energy has been destroyed?
- Why create genetic creatures? (sure they power the dome and later Big Fau, but there's too many experiment records with that old man to just be for that...and Rosewater doesn't even have Fau at this point.)

4. UNDERGROUND TERROR

- Why did Seebach burn all his research/files?
- What did Seebach learn about 40 years ago?

- Is Seebach Swartzwald?
- Why was Roger seeing memories/ghost-like images/his mother? ...(SERIOUSLY UNANSWERED!)
- What's Dorothy's connection to the Megadeus'/robots? (Some kind of universal technology?)

- Hudson River (is this New York?)
- What's the significance of the floating doll in the river?
- No true sun anymore?

6. A LEGACY OF AMADEUS

- Why were experiments in sound being done for the city?
- Was Instro ever a real boy?
- Are the Androids simply there to control the Megadeus'?

7. A VOICE FROM THE PAST (misnamed I believe. Can't look up or thread will vanish.)

- What are the machines with memory/ies?
- Why is Angel so concerned with memories?
- Does Angel really like working for Rosewater, or is their another reason she's doing it?
- Rosewater didn't want the Sea Titan destroyed right away, why?
- Sea Titan looking for its ‘master'?
- Angel's scars? (Wing markings) Is she really human?
- Why is there a city underwater? (What happened 40 years ago to create this mess)
- Who are the mysterious Frogmen working for?

8. MISSING CAT

- What's Dorothy's true connection to the cat?
- What's with the genetic experiments/freaks?

9. BECK COMES BACK

- How deeply are Roger's and Beck's fates intertwined? (showed up in last episode. FINAL STAGE. Not fully explained, but I'll give them some points here)

10. WINTER NIGHT PHANTOM

- Is Dauston's memory a memory of a premonition?
- What's with the balloon symbol?
- Why is Gordon Rosewater out of power? (When did it happen?)
- Why would it be ‘beneficial' for people to know about foreigners? (Rosewater's quote)
- What other world lies beyond the domes?

11. DAEMONSEED

12. ENEMY IS ANOTHER BIG!

- How does Angel know the name Shwartzwald?
- Severance pay? (Why so high?)
- JFK point? (Airport?) Reference to New York again? Why would Shwartzwald meet there?
- What is Shwartzwald trying to accomplish? (Why does he want everything destroyed/people to have their memories of 40 years ago back?)
- Why does Big Duo reach for Paradigm/Rosewater (and/or Dorothy) as it 'dies'?
- Where's Angel and Dorothy? (lockers/phone)

13. R-D
- Cast in the name of God, Ye not guilty? (What does this mean?)
- Why are people getting killed all of a sudden (those with memories of 40 years ago)
- Serial #s (Who has them? Does Roger have one? Is that how young people have old memories?)
- What's the electronic coffin about? (Did evil Dorothy awaken from it?)
- Is there more than one Dorothy?

- How can Roger pilot Big O?
- Megadeus': Sacred Chariots of mankind? Something about ‘choices'?

- Why does Angel hold a baloon?
- Who are the mysterious Megadeus' (3) coming from the sea?
- What does Angel mean when she says: "It's too soon. If the power is released now it will be too much.")

Well, that's all I got. 'later

Well I can give you 2 answers straight from the creator of Big O. Big O gots its name from the creators favorite old b/w anime called "the iron giant"(i migh thave the title wrong) . Whenever the robot would fight a song would play that said "big oh" over and over. Apparently he liked that song alot. As for cast in the name of god quote..that is actually what is inscribed on the sword of conan the barbarian. Another fantasy the creator enjoyed. They might not answer BigO plot related questions but are still interesting.

And according to Season 2, Seebach is Schwarzwald. After Roger receives ol' Crispy's letter, he talks of Schwarzwald while the envelope says Michael Seebach.

The library seems to be empty as The Event, according to the memories shown in R-D, caused the books to burn.
Zopwx2 11-08-2003 06:20 PM
Rosewater tell the mp's to hold off on destroying dagaon (sea titan) becuase he wanted them to kill some of the people who lived outside the domes. He obvoiusly thinks they are not important.

1.Big-O analysis means to run a complete branch test to calculate how fast your program will run.

Although they argue that it should not be reduced to a mechanical formula, Young, Becker and Pike outline four basic stages through which a Rogerian argument should pass:

2. A statement of the contexts in which the opponent's position may be valid.

3. A statement of the writer's position, including the contexts in which it is valid.

4. A statement of how the opponent's position would benefit if he were to adopt elements of the writer's position. If the writer can show that the positions complement each other, that each supplies what the other lacks, so much the better. (283)

*and an definitely unrelated bit that still came from that same google search*

How can you negotiate a Rogerian compromise between death and life? How can you live well, knowing that half a million children have died so that you can live in comfort and security?

Interpret as you will.

And I'm not obessessed, really! Well ok, I am, but its also true that I happened to read 'rogerian' in this book I was reading (stupid white men) and I looked it up on google. As for looking up "big O" i just got curious Tongue .

As I recall, the sea creature was consuming the city's power, which is why they didn't want the reactor on.
Little Fau 02-09-2004 02:38 AM
You can tell that's the case -- as soon as the old man shuts down the dam's turbines, the Sea Titan goes lethargic and stops its electricity attack.

However, the Hydra was clearly engineered to produce electricity, as Big Fau's hangar loses power when Vera releases it, and they use a lightning rod to capture its deflected energy attack and jumpstart Big Fau.

No, the Hydra STORES electricity, then uses it any way it wants to. In ELECTRIC CITY, this meant that they had to keep the turbines off, or the hydra would suck up enough electricity to do nasty things. In HYDRA, this meant that, when Alex decided he needed a bigger power surge than he could get by diverting all the city's power into Big Fau, he needed to charge up a Hydra over a long period and release its energy over a short one.
Little Fau 02-10-2004 02:04 AM
Ah, I see how that makes more sense.

Did you notice that they Hydra seemed to have "eyes" running all the way down its body, while the "sea titan" didn't? Seems like an odd change to make when they re-engineered it.
