The TRUTH about Angel! *SPOILERS TO THE MAX!*

"Yeah, but..." 11-03-2003 07:38 PM
Okay, I mentioned this in the Act 26 thread, but I'll elaborate here:

I don't think Angel the Memory and Angel the Director can be seen as one in the same. Angel the Memory, at some point in time, was part of the Director. I went over two key speeches from Angel the Memory in Acts 25 and 26.

From Act 25:

Angel to Vera: "I'm quite sane. Sane enough to know that I can't trust myself. The Union is just a place that reminds me of heaven...a place I have a hard time believing in. Anyway, I lost the right to go there a long time ago."

From Act 26:

Angel to Gordon: "I'm a memory? How can a woman as unreliable as me who knows nothing about herself be a memory?"

Gordon responds: "Memories by nature are unreliable. They'll degenerate and become fraudulent in people's minds. People subconciously create these stories..."

Angel the Memory draws heavy parallels to Satan. She is the dominus of Big Venus or the incarnation of Big Venus. According to Gordon, she is also something that has become degenerate. The same could be said of Satan, who became corrupted and was cast out of heaven. However, what's key for me is "They'll degenerate and become fraudulent in people's minds." Angel the Memory was once a part of Angel the Director, a part of her that she would rather not remember or wanted to deny. I think the things the Memory says about herself--that she's unreliable, she can't be trusted, she is unworthy of heaven--are all things that echo how the Director felt about herself. Which is why Roger said the things he did to her during his monologue at the end. At some point, the Director "cast out" the Memory, as God cast Satan out of Heaven. Did the Director create Paradigm as a way of coping? "People subconciously create these stories" might suggest this.

But the other thing I find interesting is that Satan can only go as far as God will allow in Judeo-Christian belief. A good example of this is Satan's dealings with Job. Satan first had to get permission to try to get Job to curse God by almost utterly destroying his life. God agreed to let Satan get involved, but he said Job would never curse him. Satan did bring great destruction to Job's life, but God brought that to an end and restored Job and made him even more prosperous than before. Now, I'm not paralleling Big O to the Job story, but I think, because of Roger's negotiations, that Angel the Director intervened and stopped Angel the Memory from completely rewinding/destroying Paradigm City.

The Memory was once a part of the Director, but has become its own incarnation within the Paradigm "show". I think one thing Roger helped the Director do is come to terms with that part of herself she chose to cast out.

Act 25-

Angel- "I lost the right to go there(Heaven) a long time ago."

Just thought that was interesting quote to add to the whole Angel/Lucifer thingy.

Lucifer was one of God's most loved Angels until he wanted more and more power. His need for became such he broke the bond with God and wanted to become a God himself. God took away Lucifer's wings and cast him down into hell. or so I heard.
