Yes, I would have to agree if you look at the concept drawings
here the one in the top left hand corner looks very close to the one in the backround.
Edit: Or the one on the bottom right hand corner looks
even more like it

oddly enough it looks kind of like the 'jester' as i call it. I think it was daemon? the MD that was underwater?
Yeah, but would Ariga have known about Big Venus? I think that picture is from reletively early in the manga's design phase. And we know that the anime and manga people never really communicated with one another during their productions. Does anyone know when the idea of Big Venus popped up?

I wouldn't know that for certain, but I do know that Ariga had the basic outline of TBO when he started the manga. (The lack of communication between him and his staff and Sunrise thereafter most likely explains why the manga developed into something so different from the anime.)
I wouldn't put it past Sunrise that they had season two plans before they ever finished season one. There's nothing that says they can't have plans hat far ahead of time. I'm pretty sure that they had the whole storyline, too. (Obviously, they prolly had to cut all sorts of things out due to the reduction to 13 episodes.)
Ah, well. I hope that helps a bit.

I never really even considered that being Big Venus. Go figure. I just looked at the image and imediately thought, just a bunch of random goons to test out the art style for the manga. On the other hand I don't think much was known about Big Venus at the times. Oh yeah, I'm making a post cause I just finished watching season two again. Gosh, it's been like a year. Go figure. By the way. Is there any words on whether or not the new manga will be released over here state side? I'm really looking forword to it since I'm thinking of reawakening my love for the Big O series.

Wow, the sixth volume has such a stunning cover.
I <3 Angel. ^^;;;
I've been meaning to start collecting the manga, but I've been spending a lot of money on anime lately, and Zeta Gundam drained me quite a bit. Once I get the chance, I'll purchase some of it. Or maybe just that one for the Angel cover.

Beware, the Angel in the manga is not the Angel in the anime. Except for maybe Dastun, none of the manga characters are much like their anime counterparts. Actually nothing in the manga is much like the anime, the story isn't nearly as fun in the manga.
I love Angel in the anime, but she's an absolute bitch in the manga, and not the good kind of bitch either.
You might want to read a bit of the manga in the store before you buy it. I bought the manga, but only for the pretty pictures. I haven't actually read the whole thing.

I look at the manga as a totally different story with the same characters. It's just different. But there are some good stories in there. Some funny ones with Beck. It's just not the anime.
Dork has a good suggestion. Read some of it before you buy it.
For me, I don't mind bitchy Angel. I tend to like her within that story. But if you are a big Angel fan, you might not like the Manga Angel.

Hell yeah, i agree. Note also that the ending is totally different from anime (the manga has come more earlier that second season). But the comic's ending is simple-but-clear

I haven't heard of The Big O 2 volume follow up..?.. What's it about?

I'm not sure what you mean... Like manga to corespond to the 2nd season of Big O?
Well the manga just goes right through it, I think. I got what copies weren't sold out at my local store.. 1, 2, and 6. 1 and 2 go with season 1, and 6 goes with season 2. So the regular Big O manga does take care of 'The Big O II'
Now maybe you meant the manga after those 6. I'm not sure but I heard b4 that they made another manga or storyline after #6 called Lost Memories, something that has like Roger going sorta insane for the first few chapters or whatever. I'm not sure if it's legitimate or real or anything, though.
And also, though the topic isn't very active, this probably belongs in the Manga Discussion thread.

That would be kind of hard to make a manga that continues after volume 6 because there would be no one for Roger to beat up with Big O

They could always bring in Big Venus...
Or..
Alex can make his own Big, or Big Duo Inpherno..
EDIT:
'Lost Memory' is a side story. It takes place between volume 5 and 6.
