That was great. Thanks! When you say artbook, did you mean this:

Big O Official Guide Book
Get the inside scoop on The Big O with this extensive, complete reference guide to the TV series. Full color pages include a gallery of promotional art and Japanese home video covers, rarely seen prototype character and mecha concept sketches, and character guides. Monochrome pages include an episode guide for the entire 26 episode series, production sketch art, staff and cast interviews and more.

Also, do you know if the novel is a graphic novel or all text?

Glad you liked my littel summary Big Grin .when I said art book I meant Official guide book witch I love and the novel is all japanese text except for about four color pages in the front of the book witch I believe are made for the novel. The novels name is Paradigm Noise and I dont really no what the story is about. Both of these books are part of my collection along with one through six of the manga in japanese I love the little things that are in the imports like the fold out posters and sketchs.Bugs the heck out of me that I cant read lost memory and the novel but hey I love The Big O and like having them even though I cant read them.Hope that helps.

Did you order 'Lost Memory' from that site you mentioned, animenation.com?

If so how long did it take for your items to arrive?

TAMPA!?

This is, like, too good to be true!

I wonder how they can afford to do that? Have 'Lost Memory' shipped all the way from Japan, that is. I suppose they must order enough stuff from Japan to make it worth it.

Wow.

Are you sure that it's Tampa? As in 'Tampa, Florida'?

This would be freakishly easy if it were.

Glad I could help.I think the companion guide is great it even has really early character sketches from the series if memory serves an R Dorothy with blond hair and looks almost nothing like we got in the series and Roger with out the slicked back hair kind of hard to imagin isn't it.and if you ever decide to special order 1 through 6 let me know i will be happy to help out.

By the way i did special order with them for the artbook, paradigm noise,1-6 of the manga and lost memory and now they carry most of what I ordered the site.I remember getting lost memory before any of the other books so they must been planning on listing those books.

It's definitely a "must-have" (much more so than the manga, in my opinion). Most of the section heads and titles are in English, so navigating around the book isn't too hard.

I'm so excited, ACT! I bought the art book and the manga!

You wanna know how happy I am? Check the thread on the Big O Japanese website. I sound like a propoganda film!

How many pages is the "art" book (for those who can read japanese, it's the "guide" book) and is it on nice glossy color paper or is it mostly b/w with a color section in the middle?

Glad I could help out I hope you enjoy the books.I don't know if you know this but the japanese books have dust jackets witch I think are very nice and I really like the cover to lost memory vol 1. I hope you'll share your thought when you get them.

I should also thank you for getting me to talk some.It seems like I'll say something once in a blue moon but thats about it.but when R-Umino asked me for info on vol 2 and I wrote that summary which Is probably the only summary I've written in my years on this earth and when you asked me about getting the books I seemed to open up some.so I think you very much for that.

Looks like i goofed when I called it the artbook oh well live and learn now on to you're questions.
the guide book has about 111 pages
I dont think its glossy paper but it seems like it's on nice paper.
Its color up to about page 32 the rest looks like monochrome pages.
Ill also mention the book has a dust jacket,an episode guide,a listing of products I think and If my memory is right it has the script to "The Show Must Go On" but It's pretty much all japanese but behind the text it think there are some sketches.

Well, since I can't read Japanese and would only be looking at the pictures, it'll be an 'art' book to me. Smile
Dork 04-16-2004 02:09 PM
Yea! I got my mangas and art book in the wall today! (yeah, that's right. Today, barely three days after I ordered them on cheap-butt shipping at that. Envy me, you who do not live in the place called Florida!)

I hope they translate these. I've just gone thorugh and 'read' the first manga. Dorothy and Roger have some interesting development in their relationship (they should, seeing as how Roger totally freaked out in vol. 6), but I can't read any of it. Dorothy's uber-cute though.

I'm going to take some scans of the books today or tomorrow to show you guys some stuff.

I've been wondering this for awhile; does anyone know what 'Roger's Mono' is? I can actually read the 'Roger's Mono' images, but just barely and only with really good light. Were they origninally published somewhere or are they in the book for pure randomness' sake? Before it went down, the Big O offical japanese website had a couple of these Roger's mono's images. Very odd.

Anywho, there's one preliminary sketch of Dorothy that looks exactly like Angel in her twead secertary's suit. . . and one where she looks like a space alien @_@

But my favorite sketch is of Roger where he looks like a 1970s anime millionaire play boy.

I'll take scans of that one too ^_^

There's one full color photo that's the perfect representation of the Big O love triangle. Dorothy looks ticked. lol

Thanks again, Big Mega for all the info. I couldn't have gotten these books if it weren't for you. I was having a really bad day and then these books came in the mail and my spirts went up again. Thank you. You rock!

I believe these were originally included with the Japanese two-episode DVDs. Adding little treats is not uncommon over there.

Anyway, to spare your eyes, I did a transcription of them last winter, and you can find them here in the "Articles" section of the PC main page. I had some trouble with a few; if you see any errors, please let me know so I can fix them.

I'm glad you got them without any trouble. It seems Dorothy and Rogers relationship comes front and center in lost memory which I'm happy about since I'm a Dorothy and Roger fan.Was I right on the fact Roger bought Dorothy that
spoiler (highlight to read):
nightgown
or was I wrong about that?If he did maybe hes thinking about her in some romantic way or maybe I've read to much into it.Is it just me or does it seem like Ariga was more comfortable with lost memoy than he was in the origonal series?

I think pygmalion is right about Rogers Mono being released with the japanese dvds I knew they were in the companion guide but I wish they bigger, so big they would fill a page, but at least I can look at them.I think that they were drawn by the series charachter designer.

Dorothy had some very different looks in those early designs.I think she had her head band in only on of those designs,Roger on the other hand didnt seem to change much except for the hair which does look like it's from the 1970s.
