Dominus of Megadeus means "Master of Mega-God"
Someone else said maybe Mega is really Mecha, then it'd be Master of the Mechanical God. I personally think that's better than mega-god.

I'm going to say this again, the correct spelliing should have been megadeuce, referring to the binary nature to the Bigs. It was not intended to be a god reference. For example in a early episode Darstun says "Megadeuces, where do they come from?" He doesn't say "Megadei...." (dei is the plural of deus)

Anyway deus is latin, and is pronounced "day-us" not "deuce".

The merger of human and robot is a major theme of the show, hence the megadeuces are a merger of the robot and the pilot. Humans and robots also merge emotionally in several cases. And Dorothy is a merger of android and human memories.

Before the age of science, any event mankind didn't understand was explained away as the action of God. There is a strong tendency to invoke God when examining the Big O show simply because it contains many mysteries that people don't understand yet.

There are explicit references to God on the show, but megadeuce was not intended to be one of them.

Actually, the first time I saw the show I thought it was "Mega Deuce" but then I came here and it was Deus everywhere. Oh well.

Wrong, both of you. As for Dastun saying "The Megadeuses, why do they keep coming?" was probably just put there to sound better. And Mega means Great. So it is "Great God".

According to the official site, "megadeus" is actually the correct spelling:
http://www.the-big-o.net/library/design/paradigm.html
Also, here's a translation of the page since it has some interesting info about Paradigm City:

Thanks for the info on paradigm krang. That is the first time that I've ever actually read the Alex was 43 years old. I guess that would put him just the right age to have been born durring the event! Is there an official age to Roger or is it just assumed that he is in his 20s?
Mike 10-04-2003 12:06 PM
I was looking around on that site just now and it says that Roger is 25, Angel is 26 and Beck is 22.

Wow, that translator thing is cool! Now it just has to be translated out of Engrish...
SharpDressedMan 10-04-2003 12:21 PM
I dont know why but I never really thought about angels age. But now that I think of it from her actions she does seem older than Roger. I mean you really couldn't tell just by looking at the two of them but she has such aspirations that wouldn't be shared by her and Roger.
...
Now that I think about it, explains a lot about Beck too! lol. I love Beck! Sorry buddy!

The horrendous engrish translation leaves me unconvinced. Wink It's funny, in the show (Instro episode) they even have a bistro named "Amadeus" (meaning "love of god") that tells you how the suffix deus (day-us) is pronounced. Someone slipped up (face fault!) during translation.

Amadeus is a pretty great movie, go see it! Cool

This is pure speculation on my part, but I am starting to seriously wonder something (and if you know the answer due to spoilers, please DO NOT tell me I am right or wrong).

What if everyone in Paradigm city is a tomato? What if the destruction of Paradigm city happens over and over, and everyone is cloned and their memories wiped to try to find a solution that doesn't kill everyone?

What if Dorothy is hundreds of years old and has seen every cycle, and thus is getting better and better at guiding Roger and that is why she knows about all the old Megadei?

I may be way off base, but it is fun to think about it. It would also give a basis for a season three. Wink

#1. What is Alan? Robot, Man, or Cyborg?
Alex called him a new bread of human, plus he's metal & flesh toned, I say he's a cyborg.

Agreed. Alan's a cyborg.

quote:
#2. What is an Android's relationships to a Megadeus?
Some sort of a power source? Password key?

It seems to differ. Instro seemed to be some sort of specialized powerful sound processor (cpu? dsp?) that was needed for Constance to operate. The only other android I remember having an effect on a megadeuse is Dorothy - she certainly seems capable of communicating with one, and from the dialog in Underground Terror and Leviathan it seems like the '04 Expo archetype and #17 both wanted Dorothy for some reason. Maybe for her memories?

quote:
#3. What happened to Angel's "wings"?
It obviously has something to do with the Union and her past life with them.

A facinating question - the scars do seem to infer she had wings (someone give her a can of Red Bull! Tongue ). I don't know, but the answer could be very important to the overall series.

quote:
#4. What is Angel's real name?
Beats me...

Me too.

quote:
#5. What happened 40 years ago?
I have a hunch it's something along the lines of the movie Dark City... y'know, peoples memories being moved around etc. or even worse they're all test tube babies, or a handful of them are IE Roger.

Something very catastophic happened forty years ago in the Big O world. Maybe it was a huge world war. Maybe the giant robots ran amuck, destroying the world (and Gordon is lying). Maybe the Bigs tried to protect the world, basically fought a battle to the death with other sentient megadei who wanted to destroy it. Maybe it was the 'catching away of the believers' - and simply the book of Revelations comming to pass. At this point I have little theory on what the event actually was. I intensely look forward to the revelation of the truth of the event!

quote:
#6. What is a Megadeus' role in the world?
I've had a theory that they are vessel/mediums in which God and his Archangels can act through... thus explaining Cast in the Name of God... and why Big O seems to be in charge of other Megadeii.

I think your statement sums things up quite nicely Smile

quote:
#7. Where is Schwarzwald?
He's alive... somewhere.

I hope so - you can't keep such a good villian down forever Smile (ignoring spoilers).

quote:
#8. Why did Roger leave the Police Force?
Some sort of disagreement between him & Dastun?

Roger seems to be a fairly impatient person, and one who does not suffer fools or politics gladly. The MPF seem to be nothing more than puppets on Paradigm Corp's strings - something that seems to grate on Dastun's nerves alot recently Frown So I'm not surprised Roger left.

quote:
#9. Where's Roger's Family?
I'm aiming towards that whole clone theory still...

Very possible - I listened to Gordon's tomato speech again recently, and the inferences just reek of cloning. Roger's reflections in the tomatos are another subtle and wonderful hint - boy I love Big O! I think Roger did have foster parents though - but the *only* family he seems to have now is Norman, Dorothy, and Dastun.

quote:
#10. Finally... Who's memories does Norman have, that allows him to repair Big O? Not to mention... what does Big O stand for?
I'm gonna say they're his own memories... and the O stands for like... Omega... or something. Like the one persons Username on here...

Actually my suspecions agree with yours - I think they are Norman's own memories. I suspect Norman had something to do with Big O's design or construction. Norman certainly seems to have alot of 'military' knowledge along with his fine cooking and cleaning skills. I think both Norman and Gordon never lost their memories. I also suspect Norman and Gordon know each other. As for what the 'O' stands for, I also suspect it is for Omega - a fitting name for the last, best, most powerful Big built?

One last thing. I like the thought of R-D standing for Roger Dominus - but after watching R-D again, I think I have come to the conclusion that R-D (on the list) did refer to 'R-D' (Red Destiny?) the android. As Roger said when he pulled up to the entrance to the tunnel, that it was R-D's address - I assume the address was on the list. So maybe the R-D on the list did simply mean R-D the killer android. However, with Big O, anything is possible.... Pleased

Yes! That does have a good feel to it. "...a solution that doesn't kill everyone..." (light goes off over head) I think I'm starting to understand Smile
