Though, truth be told, seeing Krillin finally get some made the beginning of the Buu saga worth it. The little guy's earned it after dying twice, anyway.

Well, Toriyama wanted to end with Frieza. Toei didn't like the concept, seeing as they were making craploads of cash off the show, and made him go on.

He tried with Cell as well.

This is true. Toei could have continued raking it in had they just gone with making buttloads of movies. The other movies were extremely successful.
