A new opening?

I was wandering around YouTube when I found this. When I saw the first couple seconds, I believed that it was a fan video, but that's before I saw the Animax logo in the bottom right corner and the name of the song. If anyone can clarify the authenticity of this, it would be greatly appreciated.

If it is an actual opening, it's interesting to see Japan take notice in Big O like this again (Poor Dastun and Angel). Opinions?

It's real, since it's showing on
Animax this year. You can also check later posts for more details. This is usually the case with certain shows where it would have a new opening containing footage from the show and with a new song. If anything, it's probably exclusive to Animax only.
What's strange about this is that it's an anime that has a new opening theme, even though it already has two that aired in Japan. Usually, animated series from other countries would have brand new themes and not show the original one. I seem to remember another show (
The Powerpuff Girls) that had two new openings and one new ending that aired on Tokyo MX and TV Tokyo, but not on Cartoon Network Japan. This could be the case here.
That said, the opening itself is all right. I prefer the original two opening themes, though. I like how they're using clips from the "colored" version of the 2nd opening.

Noticed one or two extra scenes in there...One part looks like Big O using its eye lasers in Act 1. The other looks like a close-up of O's missiles deploying at Big Duo.

Yeah, I noticed that I liked it too. But the music... good lord the music man. Bad form.

...Um? I hope you aren't talking about them being a couple, cause frankly, I can't stand that matchup.

That's true, such as Ghost in the Shell as well. I've seen numerous of other opening themes from other countries and Japan as well that have never been played over here, so yeah. This could just be another alternate theme that's popping up now.
Peace.

The song isn't that bad. It's just that it doesn't fit
The Big O in general.

I think she's referring to the scenes where their names would appear on the bottom. They were in the second opening and not in this new one.

...oh. I didn't notice that. Yeah, I saw Roger, Dorothy and Norman's names but not them too. My fault for hasty assumptions. As you were.
Oh and you're right about the music not fitting Big O, Asirt. I still didn't like it over all though.
Peace.

It's definitly interesting if nothing else.
And hell yes, that song sucked ass.
Honestly, jazz of orchestral would hae been much better.
I wonder what'll come next. . .

I've got this sneaking suspicion this theme will be the one they use on the International set. Not too bad.

Lyrics to "BIG-O! Show Must Go On":
(BIG! BIG! O!)
(BIG! BIG! O!)
I cast in the name of God,
I don't care, I don't care,
I just know it's showtime! (BIG! BIG! O!)
Look at you, true destiny,
Show must go on! I must go on!
Forget my life, I cannot lie,
The band goes on! The game goes on!
(BIG! BIG! O!)
It sounds about right, though I could be wrong.

I hope not.

UPDATE - I just learned that the song is made and performed by Rui Nagai, the same person who did the first opening theme "Big-O!"

The missile closeup simply seems like they cut from another episode and inserted it where it was appropriate. I want to say it's from A Legacy of Amadeus, but I could be wrong. (On a sidenote, am I the only one who finds it amusing that they pronounce Amadeus correctly, but mispronounce Megadeus?)
That laser shot does look new though, but at the same time it reminds me of Daemon Seed, I'll have to check the episode. There also seems to be a shot of the control sticks rolling around to the front that has the camera positioned from behind, which I think might be new. Leastways I don't recall seeing it in the actual series. Still, if they are producing new animation specifically for the Animax opening (and hopefully the international box set, which would be more incentive to shell out the three hundred), it might give a little hope to those looking for a third season. Not a lot of hope, but maybe a little.
Moving swiftly along... I agree with the sentiment that the song itself isn't bad, but it just doesn't mesh with the feel of Big O. Even the first song, annoying as it was, did a better job of that (it would have been less annoying if they had done something other than the chorus over and over). Music aside, I actually like the editing of this opening the best of them all. They just need to put Name of God or Brick Ballades or something in the background.

Thanks for finding this! Anything new from Japan regarding the Big O series (big or small) is pretty significant, so I posted a topic in the News section about it. Everyone can keep discussing it here, though.

You're most welcome. I'm hopeful that something else new will surface eventually.
As most of you, I agree that the theme sounds very unlike Big O, but it's not terrible. Like Asirt, I'm glad that they used clips from the coloured version of Season 2's opening.

My theory was that the openings we saw just don't click with a Japanese audience, much like this one doesn't really click with us.
Therefore the makers came up with this to... to... well I really don't know what they were trying to do exactly with this, but it seems they thought this style of music would work better on Japanese viewers than the ones we heard and are used to.

The Big O has what, four openings? And they all suck. Why didn't they keep The Stoning as the opening from the beginning? It's the only song that fit the series.

With all the references to old Gerry Anderson shows, I think all the themes have fit well. Sure, not going to say this new one is my favorite by any stretch, but it's not bad.
Honestly even though they barely used it here (didn't they remove it from the US DVD release?) I though the 2nd series theme probably worked the best in the context of the show.
I like "The Stoning" too, but honestly I have more memories of it being used to summon Iron Chef Italian then I do to it summoning Big O.
Battle Tomato, indeed.

I agree. "Respect" was my favorite opening theme out of the ones we have heard, and yes, it was removed from the US DVD release. It will probably be in the new International box set when it comes out this April.

It looks like The Big O may be getting alot more attention over in Japan, First they have an International box set, then they Put it on the network and make new animation for the opening. Hopefully this attention will spread and the people over here will notice and follow suit to a third season.

the best opening comes from the original DVDs overture.
There is there an other attention to Big O. Maybe there is a hope for the creation of the third season. You are right.
