Equilibrium. (why do you love/hate it so much)

Equilibrium is the sort of movie where you either consider it your favorite movie of all time or you hate it so much get sick whenever you hear about it. IGN and IMDB couldn't get enough of it while Rottentomatoes didn't like it at all. I'm sort of curious why this movie gets such mixed reviews. (a perfect 10/10 at one place and a 2/10 at another? Did they see two different versions or something?)

So the question is:
Why do you love/hate Equilibrium so much?

If you haven't seen it yet then I suggest you at least try renting it sometime. I liked it enough to watch it 5 times in a row but I understand not everybody likes Equilibrium that much.

It was okay. It was another fairly generic gunslinging action movie in an orwellian setting (and it came out at the same time the matrix did so all its hype was taken).

The special effects were fine, there was nothing...overtly WRONG with it...if anything I think its gotten higher points than the matrix because people so terrifically overrated the matrix (specifically the two sequels).
